I'm hoping plan A is to move up in the draft, and plan B is to trade for PLD. And yes, I do think moving up comes first because the assets must be there to trade.

We pull off either and we have potentially 3 top 6Cs, with moving up likely giving us higher upside in Carsson or Smith ( guessing they are the liveliest targets ). If we can still get PLD then we have 4 possible top 6Cs, which I have never seen before.

Top 6Cs and top pair D are the most valuable positions. We would be in an incredible position of strength to trade, especially if one of those Cs is a true no.1.

And yes, I understand we may be happy with one of the Cs playing wing.

1) Former Habs player
2) Current Habs player
3) Future Habs player

Who's the guy right behind Dubois and Caufield? Face looks familiar

Caufield has 46 goals under MSL. You don’t have to pro rate it. We know what Caufield is. He’s a great goalscorer. We also know what Dubois is. Inconsistent.
It was 46 goals pro rated this year though. My point is nobody on here doubts that Caufield could've easily had 46 goals if healthy this year. Also people are starting to be inaccurate when it comes to PLD. He's as inconsistent as almost everyone not a superstar in this league. Everyone is inconsistent in this league

Caufield never scored 46goals in one season. You can combine season all you want, He still did not prove he can stay healthy for one full season or score the ''40''.

Hope he can stay healthy for the whole season.

First read that as PLD will be traded to Montreal today. lol Damn, do I want this trade to be over and done with.

Watch him go to Detroit after all this talk of LAK or Montreal.

Let be honest, Yzerman rebuild has not been great in Detroit. Is it possible for Detroit to trade the first round pick in 2023 for Dubois? He must not have been very happy with the last 20 games of his team. His team also need to make the playoff soon. Don't know how long fan in Detroit are going to wait.

The Athletic -

But the Canadiens’ management team of Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton have repeatedly cited the trade they swung to acquire Dach as something they would like to repeat this offseason. They believe in Dach as an important part of the Canadiens’ future and as a centre. He is, in many ways, the poster child for how they want to do business, a player who was undervalued by another organization who they developed into something more than he was in his previous stop. To the Canadiens, the Dach story is an important message to other players who have failed to reach their full potential that they can do that in Montreal. He is the prime example of what working under Martin St. Louis and the Canadiens development staff can do for your career. His importance is far greater than simply what he does on the ice.

The Canadiens seem somewhat reticent to pay too much for Dubois. He might not get the $9 million he is seeking, but the Canadiens are not likely to be interested in anything close to that number. The Bratt contract seems closer to what they would be willing to do, but the fact Dubois can play centre and has more of a power-forward profile at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds means he can make the argument he is worth quite a bit more than that, despite the similar numbers. If the Canadiens are willing to go to $8.5 million, or Roope Hintz money, that might make it work. But would the other teams on Dubois’ list be willing to go higher? It’s entirely possible.

This is an opinion piece by Basu BTW.

I listened to the athletic podcast a few weeks ago and it was basically the same.

Basu doesn’t think the habs should trade for PLD but he doesn’t have a ton of insider info FWIW.

Can someone link where Engels said he thinks he would be traded to MTL?

On the latest Sick Podcast, Engels goes on and on about Dubois......said all the infos he's hearing, still MTL for PLD, not that it's a slam dunk as MTL may not be ready the asking price by Winnipeg but all he's hearing is MTL.

The fact there’s been no PLD trade announcement to LAK means there’s a high probability no such package has been offered.
Every time I log in I expect to see a PLD traded to *** confirmation. I have it on good authority on this very board the deal will be done this week.
Winnipeg have a huge problem on their hands the aggregate of assets required combined with contract demands has everyone balking IMO.

I'm not saying we should do this....but if the Athletic is correct in that above statement....the above guy could be exactly what they mean.

It's clear that Chevy is asking for to much and that no team wants to pay whatever aav x 8 years Dubois/Brisson is asking for. The trade would be done otherwise.

Why is he inconsistent?

Looks pretty consistent to me...

Apart from the year when he got traded.
It's very simple. If you listened to the Winnipeg reporters commenting on Dubois they were very clear about one thing. Dubois was given every chance to take the team in hand a run with it. It was what Winnipeg wanted and expected out of him. Having been given the top talent to work with the ice time to succeed with and falling short was attributed to one thing and one thing alone INCONSISTENCY. He was really good half the time and really bad or just okay the rest of the time. I don't care what anyone says that is a RED FLAG regardless of why that was.

Dubois was the Jets best player for the first half of the season but then got injured

The Monahan signing makes me even more confident we're getting PLD.

Dvorak, Barron/Harris and Florida's 1st seems fair. Maybe even add another forward prospect and get a lesser second piece from Winnipeg.

I doubt very much we are the only team who thinks the price is too high after having to give up assets to acquire the player. I have my doubts he would get 9m as a straight UFA unless he unleashes a much better season.

Dubois was the Jets best player for the first half of the season but then got injured
They were talking about his entire tenure. Not putting in the proper effort i.e. floating has nothing to do with injuries.
