I think the biggest concern for most posters here and fans in general is the return Hughes will have to give to obtain Dubois via a trade in the coming months. In the back of our heads, we don't want to re-live the Sergachev for Drouin trade. That is why I am one of those who would prefer to acquire Dubois when he will become a UFA in July 2024. I don't want to see precious youngsters being involved in the trade. Rumours already talk about Mailloux or-and Beck or and Barron. Jets would love to put their hands on Guhle or even Dach. For me it's a no-no on all those names (maybe Barron but...).

I'd rather give our 1st overall pick this year than any of our already drafted kids. By the way this seeason is going and the rank Habs could draft (around 5th), they could face the dilemna to draft Mitchkov or Benson. Why ? I have a feeling nobody drafting in the top four will take a chance with the Russian kid for all the reasons we know. Habs too, will think hard before betting on Michkov. So.... with Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson and Will Smith gone, Habs will be facing a hard decision. So , would you trade that pick to Winipeg for a still young and very good player ? For me a top-pick + Dvorak + maybe a young d-man like Barron or Harris should be enough. If not, wait for Dubois to become UFA.

Habs can live without Dubois next season.

Ok - then let Cheveldayoff take a mid 20s pick next deadline for PLD, afterall above low grade prospects are rarely ever dealt at deadline and almost never for a pending UFA

Winter-peg is f*cked
Chevy is gonna take the best offer he can get. If we low ball him with some PS5 type offer, PLD is not coming here, at least next year.

I'm cautious of overpaying for Dubois as well, but it would be insane to choose Mailloux, Beck or Barron over a Mitchkov or Benson.

there’s a full frontal attack going on - PLDs agent has gone public, now someone likely from Habs side has leaked info to Friedman and Jets enter the offseason with 3-pending UFAs and a disgruntled pending RFA who’s let it be known his goal is one destination.

Even the Trouba situation never had anywhere close to this kind of public drama - Jets have lost all leverage

Any other team looking to make an offer for PLD will also lowball since it’s clear he’s publicly stated his desires locale - Chevys best offer will be HuGos at days end

Using the FLA pick as part of the pkg hurts the rebuild. Hughes wanted 3 x 1sts this year and will end up with 1.
We will be competing for a playoff spot next year with Dubois on team so no more high picks.
Are our prospects good enough to bring us to the promise land?
I don’t think so - I think we need another tank year which doesn’t happen with Dubois.

Two years would be even better, with Michael Misa as the prize.

There is a way to liquidate all our current loser assets to get about 16 first round picks in 2025.

Go for it!

Getting a 24 year old 3rd Overall would be horrible.

We can't even pick top 3 this year and our team is only going to get better next year.

Interesting to see what will happen here. Probably a move will be made in the summer after the playoffs. Not holding my breath that he'll find his way here. Cheveldayof could move PLD to another city other than Montreal out of spite.

Not being able to obtain 1st/2nd rounders for either Edmundson or Monahan really screwed with the plan.

He definitely could, but he won’t because the negative PR that would create for the most undesirable NHL market to begin with would be catastrophic

He is free to do that and find a team who is willing to offer a rental price for a rental player because I highly doubt any team is offering Dubois full value with everything going on. Habs also simply dont need Dubois. We can simply wait till he's a free agent and in the meantime either tank again or give young players more opportunities to play.

We aren't getting Dubois for pennies on the dollar as the real floor for Winnipeg is the typical value rental players get. But Winnipeg also won't be getting full value for Dubois as he's really hemmed them in with all these leaks and agent comments.

we have what 5% chances?
And CBJ have 75% chance of not getting 1OA, and less than 50% of last place teams have actually ended up w 1OA pick post lottery since 2004 lockout, and Gorton on back-to-back lotteries to net 1OA & 2OA despite NYR owning the 6OA and 9OA picks..and and and…

He could but considering the mess he'll have to deal with in terms of dealing with a core that is aging/key pieces are set to be free agents, he needs to be smart here. If Dubois is to be taken at face value , the Habs are the best chance the Jets have at getting long run assets that can help them presently and in the future. If another team steps in its because they are willing to overpay on a rental due to needing to be competitive (kinda like the Islanders with Vanek).

I'm the opposite. I'd rather Hart than PLD.

Why are we restricting ourselves to one or the other? If both are available and we can trade from a position of strength, trade for both.

PLD is a possible circumstantial trade due to him forcing his way to UFA and we do know he would sign with us.

Hart is property of the Flyers and are we assuming they let him go like the Hawks traded Dach?

yea Gorton looks like one lucky guy but 5% is hella small matter fact everytime i play this damn lottery i end up dropping to 6th :(

If we don't win the lottery, there is like a 33% chance someone leap frogs us. So yeah, we are looking at 1,2 or 5-8 range.

I just can't stop wondering who in the 3-8 range wins one of the lottery spots (or both). Back/back drafts where last place won the lottery.

I like the idea of PLD but not at any price or any salary.

If you make the move I think you need permission to negotiate a LT deal with him before the trade happens. You can't make the deal and then have him wanting $10M= per season. IMO the suzuki deal is the max. You can't afford too many $8M players. 14-22 are the priority right now. Some of the kids coming will need big contracts too in 3-4 years. Willing to pay Jets more to have the privilege to negotiate 1st.

2nd be damn sure he fits into your culture. He has wanted out from 2 teams.... that is a red flag. The last thing this group needs is a prima donna to mess up the culture they have built.

So yes due your due diligence and if price is right in terms of trade and contract dollars- you make the move but tread carefully

Before Brière took over, he was rumored to be offered on the market.
