Yes but you made it seem as if he was single-handedly called out. The "better players" were called out as you said, that includes Scheifele and Connor. He was one of their better players in that series but that's not saying much since the team sucked. I thought he put more effort than the other "better players" in game 5.
Watch Game 5 again. He was completely disengaged. He was even worse than he was in Game 4. He went -5 in those two games and watched players walk in and score while he was a complete passenger.

A Winnipeg reporter was actually on Marinaro's show the other day and said his Game 5 was like "The Shift" from Columbus only throughout an entire game.

The guy's getting paid millions and he doesn't even break a sweat when his team's facing elimination in the playoffs while he's on a short-term contract.

Keep him away from our kids! Keep him away from the "culture"! Keep him away from our bleeping salary cap!

Unless he wants to take 7.85, I'd say skip. The ramifications from giving him more money will be felt with future contract negotiations like how Tavares influenced future Toronto signings. He's a very good 2nd liner who could possible be a decent 1st liner but he's not worth being the highest cap hit on a team. I personally see all this as him trying to get leverage on the Habs. But if hes your no. 4/5 F, you're teams forward group is probably good

One thing to keep in mind with Dubois is MSL knows him from when he was a PP coach in Columbus. If MSL had ANY issues with PLD's attitude or didn't think he was worth the risk of bringing here, he would be all over it telling Hughes and these rumours would be shot down. The year MSL was there was the year they swept Tampa in the playoffs.

Dubois had positive things to say about MSL:

The comments from Dubois were very similar to Dach's who took a major step with MSL as his coach:

Did you watch game 5? Where did I say he wasn't disengaged? You are deliberately ignoring how the rest of the guys were just as bad if not worse which is what I'm calling you out on it. You made it seem like PLD was the only one who sucked and got called out which is just false. Kyle Connor was a complete no show in terms of effort and was abysmal defensively.

Good point. MSL knows the player and can probably give Hughes some insider details.

I didn't make it sound like PLD was the only one. I have referred to Rick Bowness's "our better players" direct quote several times in this thread. I'm not sure how much more specific I should be.

I really don't care about Kyle Connor, Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele etc because they aren't the subject of this thread and the ones linked to trade rumours with the Habs. But yes they all stunk too.

You did. You said PLD got called out by another veteran coach when it was HE and THE REST OF THE BETTER PLAYERS. You didn't originally say that.

Of course you don't care, you ignore the context to fit your narrative that PLD sucks when it was mostly the team that sucks. Rewatch the game 5 highlights and you'll be shaking your head with how dumb the defense was and how uncomitted the forwards were to a 2way game. It wasn't a PLD thing, it was a team thing.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure everyone here is in the same boat. If he doesn't cost much in terms of value and his contract isn't expensive, we can add him, otherwise, we look elsewhere.

I really don't know what you're trying to get at or why the rest of the Jets "better players" matters from a Habs perspective. I haven't in any way stated it was only him. Regardless of whether a group of "better players" got called out by the coach, he's one of them. Another unceremonious exit with another organization.

BTW, you were the one who said "entire team". If anything, I should be the one hounding you about inaccurate wording. LOL!

He mailed it in again this year in the playoffs for the Jets. Was completely disengaged in Games 4 and 5. Got called out by another veteran coach immediately after elimination.

Imagine getting paid that much money and to just decide to work hard only when you feel like it.

There is now a 6-year sample size of an enigmatic underachiever with extremely inconsistent effort and performance.

You literally said it right here first. I said "entire team" after you said "he got called out" as if he was the only one called out. You can houd me about inaccurate wording all you want, I only said it because you started off by being inaccurate lol.

There is nothing inaccurate about what I said. You're the one trying to put words in my mouth by saying "as if he was the only one". If I said PLD shoots left, I'm not saying he's the only player on the Jets who shoots left for chrissakes.

The bottom line is PLD (and other Jets "better players") got called out by their veteran coach for having no push back anytime things got tough. PLD was -5 in Games 4 and 5 and completely disengaged. This reflects most of his NHL career. The other "better players" stunk too but they are not linked to the Habs.

Caufield and Dubois are not in the same situation though

Your not buying 7 UFA years with Caufield, that’s a big difference
You do get why some people feel both Caufield and Suzuki have earned their contracts here as Habs and don't want to pay someone more who isn't demonstrably better. It makes the entire UFA years irrelevant. We've just coming off signing Caufield and set a standard. Players who want to be paid more
have to show they are worth that much more. I'm of the school that feels Dubois has not done that. I argued this with the Caufield's contract the market for players here is what HuGo deems it is. This would be a done deal if there weren't problems with the ask (Winnipeg) and the contract (Brisson).

I don’t think KH is interested in signing PLD at full UFA value, which one can argue could be between 8,5 and 9M per.

If PLD really wants to play for the Habs, I think he will accept 7,85M$ for 8 years, il using signing bonus and protection clauses.

Like I said, if PLD doesn’t come here this summer, it won’t be because Habs don’t want to pay what it takes as the trade package. It will be because PLD don’t want to take hometown discount.

That's not how it work though...

They set a standard for the 1st contract after the ELC

And who cares where he produces, I want some really good player and the opportunity to get an other player of that caliber won't happen after

I think we all know that. :D But how really good is he really?
It seems to me we are in a who will blink first match and somehow I doubt it is Hughes.
