what worries me is 63 points on a really decently offensive jets team, probably means 50 pts here, as our offensive mindset blows monkeyballs. Players always drop in production when we acquire them and bring them to 'smother zone offensive dump and chase hockey' since 1994

Expensive player for what he brings, is it worth it while we try and get the next year's top pick?
Since when MSL plays a dump and chase hockey ? It work well with Dach

We won't finish last next year, we won't have that much injuries to key players and young players like Caufield Suzuki Dach Slaf Guhle are all gonna take a step

The one constant in his quest to leave both franchises is that he always wanted to be in Montreal. I remember a report from his days in Columbus when a teammate of his had confirmed it.

It’s worth what it’s worth but it’s not as if he was just leaving for money, taxes, a sunbelt destination, to be incognito somewhere or whatnot — he seems to want to be in the hotbed of hockey franchises. How often have we seen a top 6 player actually choose the Habs?
I can't recall any other prominent player wanting to play here.

This is going to come down to which teams are included on Dubois' list. If he's got teams like Carolina on there who have the assets and the cap space we're not going to win the bidding war, but the LA stuff is a bit odd as they don't really have the cap unless Winnipeg is super horny for like Iafallo and Moore or something.

I'm not sold they are including Byfield. Vilardi is the one I see them dangling. If they trade Byfield, They will want permission to get the 8 year deal in place before the trade (not after). If the Jets don't allow teams to talk to Brisson, then what? Not much talk about this part.

Agree on Dach. We are not moving him.

I do see the Kings offering Byfield if they got both Dubois and Helle though.

The Kings have interesting assets for sure, bit they have about only 7M under the cap next season - and that’s with a 11F/5D/1G roster only.

Hardly any chance they can afford both Dubois and Helkeybuyck, even with Arvidsson/Iafallo added as a cap casualtie.

And since LA needs a G1 much more than a C, let’s hope they go all in on Helleybuyck, an event which should pull the rug under Winnipeg’s hopes of a bidding war for Dubois and thus enable the Habs to buy him low, and finally put that saga to rest!

Have a feeling he's going to Boston. They need a center to play with pasta and Marchand.
Not saying it can't happen but the B's don't have very much cap space to fill out their roster so they'll have to ship some cap out.

From looking at CapFriendly most of their players with a higher cap all have some sort of NTC or NMC except McAvoy (who won't be traded) and DeBrusk who is 1 year away from UFA.

The B's would have to do some serious cap gymnastics and maybe convince a player or 2 to waive for the Jets to make a PLD trade work it looks like which could likely be a hard sell IMO.

I really hope this management group is smarter than this.

I really do.

I really enjoy posts like these. The pseudointellectual snappy responses like this, that don't actually provide any argument beyond an ad hominem are my favourite.

I really don't.

Hilarious take.

By this presumption, short of a limited number of players who are generational or, at least, exceptional, players have a couple of prime years and nothing more, if that.

Suzuki, for example, is currently 23, going on 24 and hasn't reached his prime yet. maybe he has a prime year, by your criteria, before he is done being 26?

Laughable.

Despite what some are trying to portray as a young man's league, players in the NHL tend to reach their prime and play through those prime years between 24/25 and 29/30.

It leaves a 5-6 year prime window, with some performing just as well in their early thirties and others starting to perform that well a little earlier than 24/25.

25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 31, 32, on an 8-year contract, are mostly prime years for Dubois, with years 31 and 32 likely still being strong, contributions to the team's fortunes.

Of course, for Caufield, with the first or first two years maybe not being prime years, the contract is a prime year contract, mostly.

Same for Suzuki.

There is still some growing years, initially, in both those contracts, but both players should be ending their contracts still at their summits.
Except he’s right.

It’s between Boston, Detroit, and LA for me. I don’t think we’re going to be able to outbid those teams and get a contract that makes sense done. Seeing how stubborn HuGo has been even on Anderson the last 1 or 1.5 years, I don’t think he’ll let Winnipeg push him around on this. If this was Bergevin, deal would’ve been done last summer.

Every one thinking we where going to have him for free on the UFA market where just dreaming to be honest
Obviously it was never a done deal (and I don't buy the bs that he is prioritizing Mtl as his next team)

You have to at least admit that the "normal" path would have been to sign his 1-year deal with WPG, and then try to get him between the deadline and free agency

The fact that he's forcing the Habs to make an expensive decision months before they would have even considered acquiring him, would piss me off to no end were I in HuGo's shoes

Think about it. Had he sucked it up another year in WPG, he could've guaranteed that he would play for the Habs (since he obviously decides where he signs as a FA). But now he'll go for the biggest trade package. So yeah, I call bs on the Mtl thing

Agreed. Those fans pumping up Suzuki ignoring any flaws and then going on to deflate Dubois dwelling on any flaws they can nit pick.. are off the rails.

Having both of them on our roster is ideal. Both are very good young centers who bring different type of games at similar value when you add it all up. Some are treating Suzuki has a rising star and Dubois as a 30 year old when he is less than one year older.
The flags with Dubois are there...............all about behavior since entering the league.
Behavior towards the organizations he has been with, and his coaches always seemingly getting on him and wanting more...........
Those are some serious flags...................Can HuGo and MSL be the cure for those flags?

From everything we've heard in terms of the type of organization they want to run it's exactly the type of debacle they hope to avoid. This Dubois conundrum along with the Michkov situation will really test their mettle this off season.

Or he can pull a Pacioretti and not agree to an extension if traded to a particular team.
