I do like Justin Barron and he was the prospect I was targeting when we where looking to trade Lehkonen so I was really happy with the trade but I don't think he's more then a 2nd pair guy. Is he valuable ? of course that's why Winnipeg would be interested but he can be replaceable and PLD is way more valuable

I can assure you that LA are going hard on PLD (Probably harder then MTL, but that's just a personal feeling)

They have options to upload money like moving Matt Roy and Victor Ardvisson

1st pick FLA and maybe a little add since the pick is now at 31

I look at what Fiala (Brock Faber + 1st pick), Trouba (Pionk + 1st pick) Reinhart (Levi + 1st round pick) returns and that's probably the price that make sense

La likely deals Arvidsson and Durzi (and picks/prospects) that's 7 mill. Say PLD signs for 8.

Kings have about 6 mill to sign/call up 1 goalie, who needs to be better than Copley.

Contract for Vilardi.

Sign/call up 2 defenseman.

LA would likely have to deal Iafallo for a downgrade, or a spot for a younger player.

Seems a little much, but could definitely be done.

Dubois has had every opportunity to be a 70 point player, and thus far has not. Projecting him to do so with lesser linemates than he had in Winnipeg is more wishful thinking than reality based. His PP points will decrease for sure playing on a team with a horrible PP and no PP QB.

I would keep Barron and whomever we draft at 5 over PLD any day of the week. Forcing yourself to select Reinbacher over better choices because you forced yourself into that situation is a recipe for disaster. Drafting for position rarely works. If Barron is a 2nd pair guy like you say, great. We don't have one of those either and not a 3rd pair RD either.

I'm not trying to be a Debby downer for all the fans that want PLD but this is the second NHL team that will be trading him because he wants a fresh start, some potential trade partners might be wary of acquiring him for that very reason.

He was on pace for a 70 pts season this year and he's still young, no reason he can't do it. He's going to be well surrounded in MTL too

I would't force Reinbacher, I would draft him because I think he's the one that will be the most valuable for the Habs.

If I could deal Harris by exemple before Barron, I would do it but if it's really what it takes I would do it.

Kovacevic can be that 3rd or that's something you can find on UFA.

Same offer I had before the LA rumours.

If you can get him for less then fantastic, but I think this beats deadline prices.

As a winger or as a center? Maybe we will sign Dubois and give him Caufield. Or maybe we displace Dach. A lot has to happen for Dubois to hit his 70 pts.
Do we want to mess with our current place holders and risk their progression? This has to be considered.

Was your sense that this decision is imminent? Or do you reckon it would happen at/after the draft?
 
Why do people discount PLD's dubious background. He quit on the Blue Jackets. There is video of him just coasting around trying not get too involved in the play. Granted that was during trade discussions so he had a large stake in ensuring he was healthy.

He's now quit on the Jets, indicating that he is above staying and playing for the Winnipeg Jets, granted a team with some challenges in terms of location relative to other locales in the league.

I think the above stinks.

We have a good group of young players who seem to get along and be aligned in their interest in building a great team.

I am a hard NO on PLD, unless it's extremely cheap.

If he comes here I think it ends badly.

...Beck just seems to have everything you want in a Middle-Six Centre and I personally believe he should have went in the 1st Round...I truly believe we should hold on to him...and with Chevy up against it (I doubt highly that LA wants to unload the farm for PLD as well), now is the time to take a stand and offer a touch less than what PLD is worth...

Only way he is well surrounded in Montreal is if he gets the Desharnais treatment, and Suzuki gets the Koivu special, i.e. PLD getting to play between Caufield and Dach.

You wouldn't force Reinbacher but would select him over the better players because he is more valuable. That is drafting for need and not BPA.

I still don't get this love for Dubois, by the time the rest of the team is ready to compete in 2-3 years he will be a shadow of the player he is today, which is not a superstar. A guy who is a PPG currently and will become a 60 point player is a different story. No use for the next Gallagher then. and getting to watch him in his 30's will be even more painful. For me he is a luxury not a need currently, If he signs a 5 year deal maybe I could live with acquiring him, but not 8 years, and not at any cost like many here believe.

Are we? Other than on this board, I'm not hearing too much about it.

The media says he's not looking to sign a one year contract, and that Montreal is among the teams he'd like to play for. I feel like this is actually way calmer than I would've expected based on how things normally go with this team.

That said, I've admittedly been using Twitter way less than I used to, so maybe people on there are going a little nuts..

this is an underrated point. They want guys who will stick around. they need to go grassroots in Winnipeg
