You'll need to see what the returns are in trades of those players. Because potentially, what if they trade Hellebuyck to the Pens for Jarry. Or to Vancouver for Demko. Or to Philly for Hart. Or even to the Preds for Sarros (as he's also been rumored to be traded). They're not going into a rebuild if they bring in goalies like that in a trade.

Of course we need to see what they get. Maybe they will ace all 3 trades. But at the same time, I don't think they put the same values on picks/prospects today as they did 2 weeks ago, that won't be the main focus of their dealing to come but it's a safety net now.

Just cause he has size doesn’t mean he’ll be a power forward. He’s only shown to be a finesse player so far, who leaves himself vulnerable to incoming big hits.

He doesn’t need to be a power forward to be effective. Not everyone can be one. He doesn’t approach the game with the kind of edge and pushback that typical power forwards exhibit. You can see players who have those qualities already coming in with that attitude from the get-go.

If they can get him to play more physical and responds well to that, all the better. But, he’s not showing that it’s part of his game at this point in time.

Just to clarify when I said power forward I meant in the Landeskog mold. Not a Tkachuk who runs you through the wall. But uses size to get to the net out muscle opponents and throw some big hits but not every game

Sure thing but how often have you seen Slaf do those things? He doesn’t seem to be that kind of player. Player size is often misleading.

They have the assets, and they will always be on anyone’s list.

They just need to find a way to make space. With 17 players under contract and 7 millions of cap space (without Dubois signed) it’s a tough ask.

Carolina would have probably been the best match for Winnipeg, but I guess it’s not on his list.

That's the perfect amount of cap space for Gallagher ! Heck, we'll give him for free.

NHL contracts for those approaching UFA is always based on comparables from across the league unless said player is willing to take a hometown discount, which BTW never happens except with players approaching retirement (Lidstrom, Bergeron etc)

Comparables is the basis of argument in front of an arbitrator and thus becomes the basis of negotiation combined with a players maximum leverage position between 12-18 months from UFA
Yes Indeed. It still doesn't change my valuation. The warts cost $$$ and there are warts.

Lol,

PLD does not make this team a playoff team,

the team finished 24 points out of the playoffs,

PLD will be in LA, and MB will be giving his middle finger to all habs nation
No one single player would be worth 24 points in the standings. If you added McDavid to this year's Habs, they still aren't making the playoffs.

But what's your point? You shouldn't go get a player who will improve the team if he doesn't turn the team into a Cup contender on his own? If that's the case, you'd never want any trades made.

I doubt anyone goes around pointing this out and saying Ovechkin dogs it.
Which is why he's only won 1 cup with all the talent Washington had. Only one coach seemed able to get him to "buy in" to some extent.

I don't know how they can do it if PLD cost 8M per year.

WIth Clarke(850k) + number 7th D(800K) + backup( 800k) + Vilardi(3M?) + forward 13th( 800K) they ahve around 1M left in cap space if everyone except Vilardi are going at league minimum.

Who can they trade to free up 8M? Vilardi + Gavrikov?
It's rumored he'd take less with a contender. That isn't us.

He's seeking close to Larkin money, it will be over 8, I can guarantee you that.

We aren’t talking about that.. I was referring to the infamous shift in Columbus. Although the entitlement seems to still be there. There’s a right way and a wrong way to go about situations like that. Quitting in the middle of a game to get your way should be established as wrong no matter what the level is. I’ll leave it at that.
It’s everyone else’s fault. It can’t be that Dubois is an entitled bitch. It was big, bad torts and bad hockey culture that made Dubois quit on his team. It’s also everyone’s fault that he’s asked to be traded from every team he has ever played for Lolol.

He’s quoted as saying he has nothing but respect for Torts, and he’s been quiet about cbj as far as I know. Other players who left that team have been much more vocal about the crap there; Brunet quotes Bobrovsky in La Presse today… He also underlines how PLD ended up one of the best player on both these teams whatever emotions he stirs…

Yeah two teams who never got beyond the second round.

Watching LA do back flips to sign Gavrikov has me wondering if the LA rumor is a plant and there is no suitor.

I've been seeing/reading hockey reporters speculating the opposite of what usually happens to Montreal.

Where they are using other teams to squeeze a little extra money out of the Habs.

No one knows what PLD is actually seeking, neither he or Brisson have ever publicly stated any number, all the $ bandied about is speculation from the talking heads.

No player or agent has ever publicly came out and stated what they were seeking for money. They often leak these things to the media to put pressure on certain parties.

Just because they're "talking heads" doesn't mean they have 0 insight into dealings. Pretty much everything out there is confirming somewhere between 8 and 9, and when there's this much smoke there's usually fire.

How many here thinks Slafkovsky will become a bonafide 60-65 points winger?
I know pre-draft most says that is was probably his ceiling if he ever reach it....
Lol he was on pace for around 32 points if the team wouldn’t have gone to sh* after 25 games, at 18 years old while having to adjust to the pace of the NHL.

His ceiling is higher than that

For those that speak French. An excellent article on Pierre luc Dubois.

I read it through translation. It is a good article and a good "Devil's Advocate" to the people who paint Dubois with a broad brush of a headcase.

There are a lot of factors. I personally don't want to spend the assets and money to acquire and keep him, something the author brings up that he would personally do but is not sure HuGo will.

I wouldn't throw a tantrum, price depending, if he did end up here though.
