In the Jets Forum they're starting to talk about hoping they can get a Trouba like deal for Dubois - as that's better than losing him for nothing.

They'd like Florida's 1st, as that's a better 1st than they'd get from a contender for Dubois at the TDL as a rental.

Well we gave a 13th for Dach, maybe Hughes can pull it off again with Florida's pick +.

Lol waiting for the anti Dubois crowd to pop in with their “but how do we really know that they had conversations, GM’s always have conversations. 95 percent isn’t that high of a number, that means there’s a 5 percent chance that a big market team like Boston or Colorado gets him, which is definitely a higher probability. We don’t even know if he wants to come here, he just wants to play in a “big market,” on a team that’s based out of a “majority French speaking province,” and that has “bleu, Blanc et rouge” on their jerseys. It could be anyone.

I think a lot of this depends on where the habs pick and where Florida's ends up.
I think ideally, if Hughes is forced to give-up three pieces. he'll prefer to offer up a 2nd.
If habs have a deal in place, I'm starting to wonder if they'll go the reinbacher route with their first pick (i hope not) because dubois essentially becomes that 1st round replacement - like Dach.
Fees like this can go in many different ways still

We just have to find a way to trade:
Dvorak
Anderson
Hoffman
Gallagher
Armia

No small feat.
Dvo and Anderson are moveable, no problem.

Hoffman can definitely be bought out, or perhaps traded with 50% retained.

Armia I'd like to trade for a worse player with a similar contract and bury that player in the AHL for the next two years.

Gally can be bought out in summer 2025, if he's not on LTIR.

So it's only the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons that we're really saddled with a lot of salary. Then it's about 2M per year for 4 years of Gally's buyout on average on the cap - if he's not on LTIR by then.

I'm pro PLD, but just a couple months ago a respected insider (I don't recall if it was Lebrun or Friedman himself) was saying the chances of PLD becoming a Hab were 50%.

So this news, because I think Friedman is very credible, changes everything.

FWIW, Marco D’Amico was on BPM this afternoon and said that the Jets have been scouting Mailloux. They’ve been looking for a big right handed D who can contribute offensively, to get back what they used to have in Big Buff.

(Italicized text lifted from Danslescouilleslisses).

This type of scenario would be based on the Habs having their eye on Reinbacher, who like Mailloux, is a big right handed D. Both Reinbacher and Mailloux own a similar profile, however the latter would be a little closer to the NHL than Reinbacher.

Hard pass no way I give up Mailloux for Dubois with the new info that Dubois is coming here almost guaranteed

Mailloux would be the main piece in the deal compared to these other scenarios involving multiple quality pieces. Something’s brewing otherwise why would the Jets be scouting Mailloux?

Yeah, the Gally contract is the only real problem.

Armia’s to a lesser extent, but the money isn’t big considering the youth (const control) on the team.

You might recall Marinaro reported the same thing a while back...
So it got dismissed out of hand. :biglaugh:

They’re not going to get Mailloux
(In my opinion)not after Molson and the organization have stuck with him so far, and how much he’s done in such a short period of time as a player/and off ice. Makes no sense to cut bait after he just finished leading the OHL in goals for defensemen.

They’ve invested far too much into him and he’s responded very well to all the pressure and backlash, while keeping his nose clean.

Winnipeg is more than welcome to draft Reinbacher with the Florida first if he’s still available, but I seriously doubt that Mailloux is even considered for a second as part of a PLD deal.

I don’t remember, nor do I want to remember anything Marinaro says, so have no idea. D’Amico appears credible to me, however.

They can scout him all they want I don't trade a rd with his size and tools straight up for Dubois
Mailloux is the prototypical Jets D, so not surprised by their interest. We’ll see how far it goes, if it even gets serious.

It was posted here which is the only reason I saw it. I think I replied something like "So a done deal then."

95% coming from Friedman means it’s 100% fait accompli and simply hasn’t been announced.

Talking heads of that ilk speculate based on insider info provided by someone involved in the know..
I think "fait accompli" is a bit too much, with the info that the Jets scouts are looking at Mailloux, I think we can say that any trade talks is at the options evaluation steps for the Jets.

And I'll tend to believe D'Amico about that specific scouting info, since he hangs out with the scouts in junior arena a lot.

Don’t know but from what I remember, Marinaro is not a good source for « scoops ».
