No lol. If he was targeting the most money, he wouldn't make it seem like he's only interested in a couple of teams. That's how you get paid less, not more. The more teams there are in the running, the higher the offers are.
But that’s not what your narrative was. You and several others. I thought we were a priority for him.. Now we’re just like any other team having to bid up to his demands. I would keep this clown as far away from this team as possible.

Hey @Mudz you want to take back what you said about my reading comprehension (despite butchering the shit out of your spelling)? Basu himself said he actually heard this so.

You were saying?

Hmm wasn't talking about you specifically. Actually I was agreeing with you, not sure why you are so mad.

But anyway, you're the best dude!

I hope that makes you happy now :)

Btw the whole thing was so clear that it needed a follow up tweet.

$9m.

No way. If true, it sounds like he'll take less to play for a contender, so yeah, no hometown discount.

Why the hell would he want to go to Minnesota?
9 million for Dubois? A 60-point player thinks that he can command that sort of money? Nick Suzuki has one less 60 point season under his belt with only 4 years in the league, let him go play somewhere else.

Is what Arpon Basu suggesting possible? I'm talking about PLD making a contract deal with a team, but the Jets signing him to that 8 year contract and then trading him. Can't that be considering CBA circumvention?

I don't remember that ever happening. It has always been trade and then the player sign a day or two after. Also, nothing force the Jets trading Dubois after he sign the contract, even if that piss off everyone, since that would be a handshake deal and not yet approved by the NHL office.

Maybe he takes 7.5 but doesn’t have to play Monday games?

edit - I’m secretly just trying to bump this above the no politics thread

Yes, it's a sign & trade. Florida & Calgary did that last year in Matthew Tkachuk trade.

Reports say the habs are Dubois' vast preference.
I never claimed Dubois was going to give the Habs a discount and I've always said that Dubois could be interested in multiple teams, which is why the habs should trade for him.

You’re right, I took it personal being the one who summed up the points. Sorry about that.

And yeah it is kind of vague now that mentioned it. But hey, all good now.

Winnipeg should trade him to Philadelphia and reunite him with Torts.
Seriously though, his limiting signing to a few teams only, and looking for a reported 9M is going to kill his value in a trade for Winnipeg.
If PLD does want to sign in Montreal for under 8M these reports not only will chase off other potential suitors but basically force Winnipeg to accept whatever lowball offer Hughes sends them.

Hoffman, Armia, Dvorak, Colorado 2nd seems about right if they can't find a buyer before the draft.

Ok, so the contract signing is actually part of the trade (reading CapFriendly). So in the news it reads like the contract is signed right after the trade, but at the NHL office it's stamped to the name of the original team.

Only Calgary could sign Tkachuk to an 8 year contract if Florida tried to sign him, it's 7 years, so Florida & Tkachuk worked out a contract and Calgary signed him. It was part of the trade deal.

Same with PLD only Winnipeg can sign him to 8 years.

There’s a lot of gamesmanship happening here.

For example, Just because he picks 5-6 teams doesn’t mean they have the cap space or desire to pay $9M a year. We do though.

Secondly, according to the article, that may be $9M to play in Minnesota, but $8M to play in Montreal, we just don’t know.

In both cases, he may be using the other teams as leverage to help push HuGo to offer something that Chevy will have no choice but to take.

...it's far too big an offer, imo...the 'Peg doesn't have that kind of leverage for a PLD trade...
I think other teams will make good offers. So it depends on if PLD is willing to sign long term with those teams.

Anderson has an NTC. He's not going to Winnipeg.
The rumor is Hughes offered him. (I think it was even LeBrun or Friedman that reported it.

Looking at Winnipeg depth charts, they absolutely need a 2nd line center back and the only player that make sense from our team is Dach.

Dach + Armia for Dubois?
Trading Dach for Dubois just doesn't make sense, the goal is to add PLD to Dach/Suzuki/Caufield/Slaf not to replace PLD with one of those guys.

That's the type of deal Bergevin would have made

f*** no.

Are people out of their goddamn minds? Wanting to trade a developing 6'4" center prospect that has a higher ceiling than Dubois for one year of an RFA that doesn't even want to sign for his team?

But what would trading for him accomplish? Dubois has set it up that you have to put down assets to Winnipeg to talk to him like he’s a UFA. It’s absurd. I had you and others talking to me like I was insane for bringing up red flags and it took less then 48 hours for that to be proven false.

Nothing. Habs don't need Dubois. He was just a nice to have if he could be acquired for cheap.

But looks like many, he's just using Montréal to raise the price tag on his next contract.

Then it's going to be like last year and no trade will happen between the Habs and the Jets. (We can give them Armia for free if they want him tho)

Habs are looking to ADD to Suzuki/CC/Dach, not to replace them.
