f*** no.

Are people out of their goddamn minds? Wanting to trade a developing 6'4" center prospect that has a higher ceiling than Dubois for one year of an RFA that doesn't even want to sign for his team?
Dach is a virtual untouchable at this point. It would take a king’s ransom.

In theory yes, but not all center are able to switch between C<=>W seamlessly the minute you need them to do it.
Well, a lot of centers break into the league as wingers to ease their transition and eventually work their way back to center, if that’s where they’re deemed worthy.

Outside of the very high draft picks who will generally play the position they were dominant at in juniors, I would submit that most other center draftees will have been exposed to playing on the wing early on in their NHL apprenticeship.

If the Basu article is accurate in reporting that Dubois is looking for 9 million per season, that’s a HARD f***ing pass.

9 million for Dubois? A 60-point player thinks that he can command that sort of money? Nick Suzuki has one less 60 point season under his belt with only 4 years in the league, let him go play somewhere else.
Hughes had to fight tooth and nail to convince Caufield to take less than Suzuki. How in the world is Dubois going to waltz in here asking $9 Million this summer? There would be a lot of unhappy campers on the Habs’ roster if Hughes relented — he’d be viewed as the ultimate Masshole.

If 9m is what it took to sign him as a UFA I could somewhat stomach it maybe (but it's still too much for a 60-65 pt PLD IMO) but having to pay the required assets in a trade for him and then also have to give him 9mx8 then yeah I want no part of that scenario.

But what would trading for him accomplish? Dubois has set it up that you have to put down assets to Winnipeg to talk to him like he’s a UFA. It’s absurd. I had you and others talking to me like I was insane for bringing up red flags and it took less then 48 hours for that to be proven false.

What are you arguing? That Dubois wasn't going to cost assets? Obviously he's going to cost assets if a team trades for him.

And what does that have to do with the red flags you brought up?

You watched the playoffs right? Staal was their second line center. That tells me Rod the Bod puts little trust in any of the aforementioned.
Not necessarily They had very few wingers. If they put Necas at centre that leaves them withmaybe 2 scoring line wingers. They can strengthen the forward corps any way they want. I believe Necas wants to play centre and since he hasn't been particularly effective in the playoffs they may want to try him there.

Not quite what I was referring to. Being used as a winger and being able to play like a winger is what I was getting at.
If you take KK or Eller who both got used on the wing but couldn't play the position properly, both were always drifting toward the center and going too low in their own end, they could probably have gotten used to it if they had stayed at the position for a few weeks instead of a few games.
On the other hand you have guys like Dach or PLD able to make the switch between the positions seamlessly in the middle of a game if you need them to.

You said you’d rather trade for him. I can only imagine you said that because you think it would give us a jump on the market. But what jump are we getting when he has Winnipeg at gun point and he’s acting as if he’s a UFA? As of now, he’s a UFA, masked under RFA, that requires an expensive down payment payed to the Jets. To any of the people who said wait a year to UFA, that sure as hell looks a lot better then this travesty we’re seeing now.

And how is that linked to the red flags? Every negotiation that’s related too is a complete and utter circus. He isn’t that guy to be putting out the demands he is.

I don't see any logic in paying him more than Suzuki and Caufield, that's for sure. Can't see many teams giving him that contract at all to be honest. He's no Tkachuk, no matter what his agent thinks. He doesnt have the career numbers that got Huberdeau his giant contract either.
