Damn, now we are nitpicking about acquiring a 60-70 point power forward that can play multiple positions and actually wants to play here. Let’s just keep holding on to prospects we vastly overrate that will likely not make much of an impact anyways.
This isn't prospects we're talking about anymore. They want NHL players. Who do we have that they would want vs. 5/6 other teams? There are plenty of guys we'd like to get rid of but who are ones that WPG actually looks at and thinks they can improve their team?

I would't have a problem with 8 x 8 for PLD, don't forget the cap is gonna go up by a lot in the next few years

I would probably go 8 x 8 as well, but if PLD really wants to pull the ol' "pay me more money if you're rebuilding" then no. 9 is just too much. People hate Anderson's contract and this is pretty much the exact situation, except I don't think we're going to be trading an off-year Max Domi to get him.

Alright, some decent sized bombshells in this article by Apon Basu and MA Godin on The Athletic: What we’re hearing on the Canadiens, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Carter Hart

If you don't have a subscription, it basically boils down to this:

- Jets aren't going to go to arb with PLD. He will be traded before summer's done.

- PLD will submit a list of 5-6 teams he'll sign long-term with and the Jets will facilitate that, and the Habs are going to be a team on that list. The Jets will then sign him to an 8 year deal based on the contract he negotiates with said team and trade him to that team (because he can't get 8 years with anyone but WIN).

- PLD would want more money to go to a "rebuilding team" over a contender and is said to want in the avenue of 9 million a year using Barzal, Hintz, and Matt Tkachuk as comparables.

- PLD considers himself a C but the position he plays won't be a factor in where he goes.

- Jets will want established NHLers in any return.

Based on ALL OF THIS info, now that it has clearly become a 5-6 team race, I do not want any part of PLD now. He is going to cost way too much money in both assets and cap for what he brings.
I was all for getting PLD, but if this is true then he's a hard pass.

I think a lot of use were willing to look past his tantrums because he supposedly only wanted to play in Montreal. But if this is true that he's willing to go to multiple teams(even willing to take a discount to go to non-Montreal teams) then I have no doubt he'd pull the same pissy-baby bullshit with us if things aren't going good.

If he's looking for MORE money to consider a contract in Montreal then he can go have fun in the States while he throws his tantrums and we'll keep building our dynasty without him.

There is a difference with ask and what he will really get.

You often ask for more at the beginning of the negotiations

It's a pretty clear sentiment he wants more money from a rebuilding team.. it might not end up being 9 per, but it's still going to cost us more in acquisition cost and money/term than makes sense right now.

PLD and Brisson have just created an enivornment where they won't get to Montreal.

It's fine, it doesn't make sense if you are paying market value for him in the trade AND on the contract.

Carolina can do it. Minnesota can do it.

He was at the two worst cities in the NHL with dysfunctional organizations. God forbid he didn’t want to stay in those shitholes, I wouldn’t either.

At least he’s telling the Jets a year in advance that he has no intention of staying. That way they can recoup assets.

seems to me reading the notes. that PLD would never sign a 7mil for 8 years.
so very unlikely the Habs get him

to keep him lower the Nick
According to Hughes presser today, this is a different circumstance and he’d be willing to pay more if it’s a player not coming off an ELC. So not a deal breaker.

All told, we’ll find out in next two weeks or so

Apparently Hugues clarified that part......Caufield was like Nick, coming out of his ELC but that doesn't affect others negociation as other deal have different parameters. There would be no rules that Suzuki has to be highest paid player on the team.

That was obvious. Not sure how people couldn't understand that.

it will be interesting by the draft to see what shakes out

Every single time I boil it down lol..
The 2 teams in the NHL i would never , ever, ever ever ever ever ever, wait maybe? no , NEVER ever eeeeeeever play for are : The Blue Jackets and The Jets lol

Granted, i'm from MTL, I consider myself lucky, but I don't know how people even COPE with living in manitoba or ohio lol

At least Philly and Pittsburgh are okay if we talk Ohio. But Columbus is basically a university and that’s it. Winnipeg is just a shithole that’s not even close to anything to make it the least bit interesting.

I mean we are going from Tavares not even wanting to meet with the Habs to see what they offer, to being on the shortlist of a very good 24 year old player and people are still whining.

We can’t draft/develop for shit and we have lousy NHLers. What could we possibly give that’s going to kill this franchise? Or do we want to save the money to sign more Chiarots.

I never wanted to trade the required assets for PLD in the first place but would've been fine with him signing as a UFA if he were still interested in being a Hab at a decent UFA contract.

Not interested atall in PLD @ 9m x 8 and I'll be happy when all this PLD drama is finally over with and he's traded and signed for 9mx8 elsewhere.

Yeah when it’s time in a few years, they won’t pay Dubois near 9m right now lol

I feel like Chevy will overplay his hand thinking he can force Hughes into giving him what he wants because of PLD's desirability to come here. The guy attended the draft under the impression that we would trade for him and I do think Chevy tried to pull a fast one on Hughes there.

Yeah the most they'll get from another team for PLD is a good prospect and a late 2024 1st as he'll be seen as purely a rental. He has a chance to get more from HuGo but he'll probably messed it up by shooting too high

They can f*** right off if they're asking for more than Dach.
As soon as Hughes hear "Dac" he'll hang up the phone. Jets are about to play themselves and settle for scraps from another team

Just to be picky here,

5~6 teams PLD would want to sign long term with =/= 5~6 teams able or willing to make trade or sign PLD.

But again, Habs will stay the course and only get involved in a trade that make sense for them. If the other teams' offers are flat out better than our, then good for the Jets I guess, Habs are just going to look somewhere else to improve.

They aren't taking Michkov bro, you need to prepare yourself early.
I’ll take that bet with you.

The same way you claimed we were getting Bedard, you’ll be wrong on this one again. :sarcasm:

Obviously assuming Michkov falls 5th and all of Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith have been selected, I predict that the Habs will draft Michkov.
