Yeah I dont think we'll get a bargain and alternatively dont think the Jets will get close to what they actually want. I think both teams can get the job done because the Habs (if everything on Dubois's side is true again coming here hell or high water), are the only team that will offer a non rental type of deal.
Agreed. It was also reported that Montreal and Winnipeg have already had serious discussions about the player. What they don't say and probably don't know is when. Pre draft Pre Season During the season or TDL? They were obviously not seeing eye to eye on a package. While that can change with the draft my take on Hughes is he is a very firm negotiator and probably won't budge in terms of over all value. Meanwhile Chevy can't afford another Trouba payout.

This is the thing with Hughes that makes him different the Bergevin though, i think he has the ability to be flexible on player asks and value so long as it fits his vision. Like last summer with Romanov for Dach

That top 9 would be fun to watch.

Having 2 big guys like Dach/Dubois that can switch between wing and center adds a nice bit of flexibility too.

I'm totally down for what Hannibal said, too.. maybe rework that bottom line to be a more physically imposing and intimidating group.. but I really like the potential of Farrell-Beck-Heineman, they'd definitely be able to do what the Gourde line did for Tampa, potential being hit obviously.

If it's inevitable that Dubois is leaving, I think WPG would be better off holding onto him and trying to compete again one last time next year -- if they struggle they can sell him at the TDL.
Compete how?

Looks like they’re going out with a whimper this season. Calgary has a legit shot at catching them for the last spot with 1 game vs Win and only 1 other vs a playoff team.

They’re better off getting assets and reloading … like the Blues did when they traded Stastny.

Even if the Habs have good leverage, the trade will return a decent package.

I’d bring the young top prospects along slowly. Like what the Rangers have been doing with Laffy-Chytil-Kakko. A kid line with less pressure (and less contract demands after ELC :sarcasm:).

RHP - Suzuki - Caufield
Dubois - Dach - Anderson (a heavy, “western conference” style line)
Slaf - Beck - Benson
Heineman - Evans - Ylonen
Gally

RHP deserves a shot. If it doesn’t work out you can replace him with one of the kids.

I’m not a big Anderson guy, but if they somehow keep him, with PLD, Slaf and Dach (along with defenders like Guhle and Xhekaj), I don’t think many teams would be happy to play the Habs in the playoffs.

Best thing about getting PLD and having him and Suzuki as your top two centres, you don’t have to worry about matchups. No throwing Danault out there and expecting zero offence from either side.

I wonder if they trade Anderson and use the capital from that for Dubois.

I think the playoffs will play a key role in terms of what the Jets want. If they completely flame out do they just blow it up and rebuild or if they show enough fight, is it a retool and give it another shot with the core? I personally think Anderson is the type of player Winnipeg is seeking since they like big wingers and Wheeler is going to have to be replaced sooner or later. If I'm Hughes Id be moving either Anderson or Dvorak in a package (need to move salary at the very least) along with picks/prospects. A package containing something to help the Jets presently and in the long run is probably the best bet as they figure out what they want to do.

Not that particular article but like mostly everything on Montreal Hockey Now, we have seen the actual credible people who reported it.

Dubois-Suzuki-Benson
Slafkovsky-Dach-Caufield
Farrell-Beck-Heineman
RHP-Evans-Ylonen

Oh baby
I’d like to see Farrell-Beck-Roy as a 3rd line too. I think they can compliment each other and be an effective checking line

for the 4th line, we can easily find someone on the UFA/Trade market to bring physicality if Tuch or someone who we draft dosen’t develop

Maybe but I believe Anderson I saw that Anderson and Dubois are very good buddies so I think they are going to try to keep him.

We can expect salary going to Winnipeg as a cap dump, either Hoffman/Armia/Dvorak.

Cap dump(I hope it's Dvorak and we buy-out Armia)

Interesting that Friedman puts the odds of Dubois ending up a Hab at 95%

It's just his opinion. But it's interesting.

Plus Roy will challenge for a spot and hopefully we can get something for Anderson and Dvo.

Recall that Anderson was already traded for one of his best friends, Max Domi.
