I prefer Lafreniere. I feel there is more upside there. He's younger and his contract situation is more in the Habs control if they trade for him now. I don't feel there's any upside with Dubois - he's 25 and I see more downside to upside in acquiring him.
His timeline fits.
Dach started to hit his stride last season.
Laffy could do the same next year.
Slaf the year after.
Michkov the year after that. ;)

… and he’d be cost-controlled. He also slots in to his natural LW position.

Kempe can skate though.
Kempe also has skill, a shot and work ethic.

Laf has… that one between the legs move he’s tried twice in his career so far. And a goatee.

I seriously don’t understand what people still see in him. Maybe it’s that they aren’t actually seeing it, because they don’t watch him? He was on the first line with the Ranger’s ‘big’ boys to open the season and did nothing with it.

He doesn’t show any of the flashes of quality you’d expect to see from a guy about to breakout. He literally looks perfectly placed as a 3rd/4th line grinder. That’s where he deserves/should be.

The last thing Laf would need is to all the sudden have the pressure of Montreal media on his back while he is struggling to find his place in the league and to meet expectations. Let the kid try do it somewhere else.

Some people just get way too attached to where a player was drafted, same thing happened with Yakupov when people still obsessed over him despite him being a plug for 5 years.

If Lafreniere was drafted in the second round hardly anyone would give a shit about him.

For what it’s worth, Lafrenière has progressed every year. His advanced stats are decent although he does get a bit sheltered.

They do indicate that he is ready for at least a little more responsibilities.

Rangers have brought him in slowly and I wouldn’t be surprised if he popped over 50 pts soon, without any regular top PP.

So I disagree on what some have said ( compared him to Yakupov).

But right now, there is no reason to take him before PLD, unless his price would be significantly lower.

Yeah at some point Dach might become as good as Dubois…

PLD 5 of 6 seasons produced between 48-63. That includes his 20-21-22 yrs old years.
KD’s best is 38. He is 22.

KD has a lot of work to do to catch PLD’s ppg.
He has to score 75 next 3yrs and needs PLD to break a leg and score 0 point just to catch him. Tough odds.

I know that PLD has better stats then Dach, why I think it's silly is why would the Habs trade a 22 year old for a 26 year old who doesn't want to play in Winnipeg and who has shown he has given up on two teams now. These playoffs have lowered the value of PLD in my eyes. He appears to be a chronic giverupper.

It's such a bad take.. I honestly can't get inside someone's brain who has watched both and had a preference for Laf. I would guess that person has not watched either player in a long time.
I mean we could’ve said the same thing about Dach last season and now many value him higher than Dubois because of his age, upside and cost effectiveness. Not the biggest fan of Lafreniere but he was a project as opposed to Dubois who came in more NHL ready and more or less looks like he’s plateaued at 25.

They won’t.

PLD was even worse in Game 4 then he was in Game 5 and that's saying a lot. He had a strong game 1 (2 points) but then went minus-7 from Games 2-5.

Good player but very inconsistent and overrated by this fan base.
If you want to stick to the small sampler to analyze his value, go ahead but without me. I already told you that i don’t give any value to this kind of argument.

I think if HuGo think that PLD coming in, and being added to a good group will work, it could happen......it would make us a better team, but yet, still no superstar, but a very nice core of young forwards......
Can a team win the Cup, with no superstar, but yet a very good group by committee?
I think in a couple of seasons, our back end, is as good as up front.....

A busy summer ahead................first up next monday. Please hockey gods, please shine down on us.

Lol at wanting Laff instead of PLD.

What an absolutely bonkers opinion. Lafreniere looks terrible.

I don't actually believe that you've watched either of the players play. This reeks of saying something just to say it. Can you clarify as to how Lafreniere has more upside than Dubois?

Not producing as a star? He didn't even produce like a role player
