How is he trending behind Yaupov. Yakupov's was trending downwards with his best season as a rookie, he was then much worse in year 2, and even worse still in year 3. It's the complete opposite of Lafreniere whose trend line is slightly upwards as every year he's been a bit more productive then the last one. Not to mention the view of Yakupov was he was a net negative, whereas Lafreniere is seen as a net positive just not at the level you expect. The bigger knock against Lafreniere is that he's trending behind Yakupov after three seasons and there are still issues with his game (skating primarily). I'd still bet on his talent, but its a bet. And Montreal already has their own 1st OA pick who didn't exactly light the world on fire in his 1st year. If you're going to get Lafreniere (which, if the price was right, I would), then you need a plan to develop both of them without coddling them.
Ideally if we get Lafreniere we also get Dubois both to help alleviate the pressure of being a Francophone "star" and it would provide options for both Slafkovsky and Lafreniere to find chemistry with a quality center. But even without Dubois how is there a concern that we couldn't develop more then 1 winger? Like are you seriously suggesting that it's impossible/hard to develop more then 1 guy?
