I 100% expect the offer to be:

Florida's 1st
Harris/young d prospect
Dvorak/roster player about 4million cap hit (not dach)
Id do that for sure.
Harris is good but superfluous for us, Dvorsk is alright but not irreplaceable. Florida's 1st is valuable, but chances are it won't give us a 70 points big forward.

I am trying to figure out the last time a player was brought in of this magnitude that actually panned out. I mean a guy you sign for 7/8 years, not something like a Dach trade which was very low risk.
I just don't know if Dubois is the solution.

Sorry but why would Winnipeg be remotely interested in Christian Dvorak?

Roster player on reasonable contract to temporarily fill the whole at C they will have?

Jets fans are pretty adamant that they don't want or need a LHD.

I think they want RHD, C or RW prospects.
Not many guys here wanted Matheson, yet here we are.

Fans are just that, fans. Most of us are clueless and our opinions have no weight on reality.

There is no way I trade Dach for Dubois, no way.
Yeah no, that'd be a sideways move at best. Dach is younger and he's doing well in Montreal so far, which isn't the case for everyone.

I'm confident Dubois would do well, but there's a chance he crumbles under the pressure, especially being french.

For sure, but when looking at their depth chart it does seem like they would prefer a prospect at any other position.

Perfetti as 2nd C. Dvorak as 3rd C. Lowry as 4th C.

I have heard ZERO people suggest they wouldn't wait until Free Agency if the Jets' demands were too high.

Beyond that, the question of too high shifts from person to person, but Dach, Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle, Xhekaj, Farrell and Hutson all seem to be on the no-fly list for a trade with the Jets.
Xhekaj is a good and valuable player, fan favorite, but shouldn't be on anyone's untradable list.

I think so too, You're very close I'd say to what it would cost to get it done and that's the package I would offer as well.

The only thing I expect will happen, they will ask for Mailloux instead of Harris and will fight hard to get him.

There's this weird thing that goes on on these boards where people think fans have anything to do with trades...

What is your strategy if you find out Dubois is open to sign/trade with the Habs, Avs, and maybe 1 or 2 more teams? Try to guess what the Avs would offer in a sign/trade package? I think this is an interesting exercise to consider.

* Avs Futures? Avs 2023 1st (21st right now)

* Cap Contract? Avs can't fit Dubois in without sending a contract the other way. We have to assume that is Girard right?

* Anything else? I doubt Newhook is on the table right?

Would you try to beat this Avs package? Doubt Sakic would offer this much but lets say he will
* Avs 21st+ pick
* Girard
* Newhook

If the Avs offer that package he's theirs (and the Jets should throw him in a car and rush him to the airport). To match or beat that would be Fla 1st, Dach and Harris.

Why would you give up a single asset for a player you can get for nothing next year unless you think he is the missing piece to a cup run?

Patience people! :rolleyes:

Because there's 31 other teams in the league.

If a big, young center that's shown stretches of PPG potential hits the UFA market then there will be at least 1 team that will offer him a contract that's a heavy overpay. PLD may very well want to play in Montreal, but I don't seem him turning down an extra 14 million over 7 years if some other team heavily outbids us.

Because you can never count on UFAs signing in any one particular city. The scenario where a 25-26 yo player only has ONE team on his list is unheard of. We should not assume it to be true.

Trading value for value is not ONLY done when a target is the missing piece to a cup run.

It is the NORM. In fact, the price to pay for PLD as a soon-pending FA is LOWER than if he were already signed by Winnipeg to a long-term deal.

There's an even weirder thing where posters like yourself try to start a fight for no reason.

I literally said "looking at their depth chart". If you wanna keep putting Harris in PLD deals then go for it.

I'm simply trying to add a tiny bit of nuance to the conversation.

Do you think there is any truth to the idea that signing or trading for Dubois will not be taken well by Dach/Suzuki?

Almost like a message to them that management doesn't have faith in them at C?

Why some seems to think Dubois won't cost a lot to acquire? Even if he really wants to come here, Jets ain't going to do Habs any favors.

Tkachuck wanted to play with the Panthers. Florida have to give Huberdeau. Yes Tkachuk and Dubois not of the same level, but still.

What if Winnipeg asked for Dach +? Would you want Hugues to pull the trigger?

Ppl are offering Dvorak or Anderson. Jets are in win now mode. They need a second center. Not Dvorak?
Trading Huberdeau who needed a long term deal and who was going to be expensive coming off a career year, was not as difficult a decision when the incoming player was Tkachuk.

Dach has not attained Huberdeau’s level yet but he is a cost controlled player at a very young age, who is showing signs of a breakout and playing a premium position. Players like him just don’t hit the market unless a dumbass management group like Chicago’s, is involved.

It’s obvious that the answer is no is the Jets were to ask for Dach. However, I also get how throwing out a 3rd line center like Dvorak as trade bait would garner little if no interest from them. The Habs would obviously have to offer more.

How much more, is the part that remains contentious. I’m not interested in gutting the team of high upside players while we’re still rebuilding so I’d take my chances on trying to get him for free a year later.

Surprised so many are willing to risk not trading for him. If he hits the UFA market, he’s likely not signing here…

Regarding losing assets in a trade for him… who cares? The point of acquiring assets is to use them to build out our core.

Dubois instantly becomes our best forward, wants to be here, and fits this core’s age group. We have so many assets if value that aren’t even considered main pieces to our core.
He in no way instantly becomes our best forward.
