All I ever heard the detractors say about Kreider was "great speed and shot, but no hockey sense". Now that he's showing that latter in spades, suddenly his finishing ability is in question. It's always something, I guess.
It's hilarious, people are always going to try and find something to discredit his serious skill and bad luck. He's got a wicked shot he rang the first shot off the post in Montreal from just inside the blue line and had 2 great shots last night that were just barely saved by Rask who had a great game. Holding once he starts potting them they come in bunches.
He is playing great and barring injury will be a player in the NHL for a long time . The question is will he be an Erik Cole pernnial 25-30 goal guy or Jason Chimera another big body great skating guy with not much touch .
As for his shot he's really trying to load it up and bend his stick and blow it by goalies . What he should do is be trying to shoot like Jagr and Gaborik used to snap it quick hands high and out in front of them and surprise goalies and hit spots . CK isn't powering it through top NHL goalies . He needs to beat them other ways
well said. ive made that comparison before.
i see alot of erik cole in his game. at one time, erik was one of the fastest skaters in the league and he had a unique power forward/speed thing working until he got hurt.
kreider doesnt have the developed shot yet cause of his hands. thatll come with confidence though. hes got the strength to deliver a hard fast accurate bb. this part of his game needs work. he needs to slow his game down to start cashing in on his scoring chances.
if kreider can pattern his game after erik in his prime, we will have an allstar player.
Does he have a higher/lower upside than Cole or is Cole pretty much what you think he'll be if all goes well?
That was one of the best games I've seen Kreider play since he was at BC. Yes, he failed to capitalize on chances, but to generate that many opportunities against one of the biggest, stingiest defensive teams in the league was very impressive.
Once he loosens up, he'll start burying chances. It's only a matter of time.
Spot on.
Scorers need to shoot. That simple. He's over thinking this last bit, same way he was over thinking all the rest. He just needs to take a deep breath, exhale and just let those shots rip. He could easily total 4 or 5 a game. Pile em up. Law of averages will take care of the rest.
All of the criticisms that have been thrown at him were valid when said. He has outgrown all of them except finisher, Hopefully, soon that one will be in the past.
Agreed.
Though some of them were overblown. Especially the one about hockey sense.

Hockey sense is one of those things that, despite being an intangible, people try to equate with some sort of statistic. I saw a lot of "low assists = low hockey sense" sort of posts early on.

I love this post. I would eat it if I had a spoon.Except "not being a finisher" was never a criticism. That one is brand spanking new based on a very small sample size. Anyone who paid even the slightest bit of attention to him before this year should realize that he's a goal scorer.
I think 30/30 is reasonable and I have thought that for a long time. Pacioretty/Cole-like player. Unique combination of size, skill and speed.
Imagine if he had Gabby's shot...
The guy is creating as many chances as anyone I've seen on the Rangers in a long time, maybe more than Nash. Also incredibly frustrating to get my hopes up and not score on all those great chances.

You get way too excited/frustrated ay too easily. I think you are a very knowledgable fan but sometimes you overreact to things that arent worth overreacting to. Look kreider is probably the most frustrated at this point. the kid has been playing great hockey since his call up, he is racking up points even wthout scoring goals which is impressive. the goals will come. Gotta give credit to goalie liek Rask and Price who are top goaliesImagine if he had Gabby's shot...
