MSG/TSN analyst Martin Biron

Q: What are the biggest reasons for the turnaround, even without Rick Nash and Ryan Callahan, who just returned?

A: You see what they are doing now, especially defensively, has really helped the team move forward. And Carl Hagelin’s return has helped, (Derek) Stepan catching up to where the boys were, (Brad) Richards obviously and one big personnel move was when they recalled Chris Kreider.

Q: What has been the biggest difference with Kreider?

A: He’s playing with an edge. He’s found a way by doing things that are a little out of character for him. We all know he can skate, shoot, but he’s a big man and extremely strong, and if he can use that physical edge, he’ll create a lot more chances for himself and other players.

yeah, i made a thread about this earlier...saying that Step and Kreider needed to play mean...Kreider is at least...Stepans been much better, but hes still got more to give fo-sho

He has provided more insight in a couple days than Duguay or Leetch did in about 3 years.

Dugay, yes; Leetch, no. I think Brian's analysis has been pretty darn good.

That said, Biron - even with obvious nerves - was absolutely fantastic. Would love to see more of him.

EDIT: in fact, how about a Brian and Biron segment? :D (Their first topic could be Byron Boyle. :naughty:)

Poor guy can't buy a goal it's ridiculous

Someone who's good with numbers and statistics and **** explain how goals will happen

One of his best games yet.

He is just dominating out there. Love how he's getting scrappy with guys like Subban.

it WAS his best game that I've ever seen, outside of a few at BC where he just killed the opposition with his up and down speed. generated a ton of chances and was just physically imposing his will on the opposition. he was paired up against Markov and Subban for most of the night and I felt like he dominated them. those are 2 pretty good defenseman.

this is why I have ZERO interest in putting Nash on the first line.

When you can spread out the offense amongst 3 lines you have the chance to get at least 1 good line away from your top defenseman.

Who is Chara going to play against? Have him against Nash Brassard and Pouliot? Awesome, shut that line down, I'll take Stepans line against any of Bostons defenseman any day of the week.

His shooting percentage is 6.9%. Not much a sample available, but I would expect him to be around 10-12%.

Kreider's shot is nothing short of a lazer beam. The goals will come, but right now it's just a joy watching him manhandle players and put up the points he does. The kid's got great vision, IQ, speed, and now a little snarl to him. He's got a nice package and I'm excited to see how he pans out.

he does such a great job finding defenseman on his curls behind the net...its something Hagelin does really well as well.

I think the big mistake with Kreider that Torts did was to get him to play like Hagelin...he needed to play more like Kreider. He'll never play like hagelin because Hagelin is a freak of nature with his agility.

Anyone think he can become a faster version of Lucic (minus the fighting)?

i think hes got much more offensive skill than Lucic, but is nowhere near as intimidating. Lucic also is great in front of the net, kreider hasnt really shown that yet.

He's got such a weird skill set it's tough to figure where his career will go. Elite speed but built like a tank and an elite wrister...pretty good hockey sense too. its tough to say where this kid will end up. could have his number retired as a ranger, could be a good 3rd liner for the rest of his career...noway to know.

unique player fo-sho, just like Lucic.
