I guess some peoples' definition of "elite" is more liberal than mine. Kreider does have a rocket of a wrister though. Hopefully with time his touch will get better and he'll be able to place it wherever he wants.
I peronsllay think by the end of the year he will end up with a good amount of goals. We still got over 60 games to go and remember he has played less games than most. Like i said he has been a bit snakebit. He has hit about 7-8 posts that could have all been goals. Also sometimes you gotta give credit to the goalies. As long as kreider keeps playing the way he has been then thats the most important thing

7-8 posts this year? I don't remember them. I can't remember another post other than yesterday's, though I haven't seen every game.

Both montrea games he hit the post, the devils game, and i think the red wings games. Maybe not 7-8 but there were a good amount

I've missed the last few games. Last time i checked on youtube there's almost no vids of Kreider's hits. Anyone got a link to a few? Wanna see that Emelin one.

Almost the exact same way that Emelin got his ACL torn apart when he tried to hit Lucic. The hits look identical...

Emelin probably ****ed up by trying to play the puck away and still go for the hit on Kreider instead of maybe just doing one or the other. He wasn't really set for the hit he was trying to throw and Kreider had momentum. But damn, yeah Kreider blew him up

Is that what the broadcasters were about to say when the clip cut?

Yup. If you watch the recap video on tsn.ca/nhl they talk about it also and show the Lucic hit that blew up Emelin's ACL

On the HNIC broadcast last night they mentioned how eerily similar the 2 hits were, they showed a replay and the color guy mentioned it was the exact same spot on the ice.

Kind of like Upshall in the Florida game. Emelin looked like he got run over by a truck.

I appreciate that they pronounce his last name Yemelin. That's actually how you pronounces the "e".

Seems we have a fellow Russian speaking rangers fan on these boards :). I've been surprised by the amount that we do, at least a dozen IIRC.

Gorges got run over on the first shift by CK even worse

He was an animal last night

It's amazing really and something I don't quite understand. It was so sudden that the switch in Kreider's head went off. How does that happen? Mentally, how can a change be so drastic that you just 'get it' seemingly one day and play the way that you're most effective? Of course I'm assuming this is how Kreider will continue to play, but the transformation has been startling.

Almost makes you worry to ever trade talent away that might 'get it' one day. I don't think we appreciate how difficult of a job scouts, coaches and GMs have when it comes to evaluating young talent.

I think torts ruined this kid put too much on his plate that isn't his game

AV and his staff I think told he kid to just go play. Just like he did when he came right out of school

Now he's bigger stronger healthy and confident something he lacked. He's scary good right now

As a ranger fan I'm dreading the major injury coming any day now (please hockey gods let us have just one stud make it thru please)

There's probably something to that. I think Torts really didn't have the time for him in a shortened season and being a bit of micromanager was jumping all over him any time he made a mistake.

Kreider is a physical beast. Tremendous speed and extremely powerful.

But he wasn't even close to being the two way force that he is now, nothing even close.

Kreids had a quote a few weeks ago where he stopped going full force all the time and actually started to actively look on the ice and make decisions. I think this is where AV did the best job, he is requiring his players to look at the play in front of them and make the right decisions.

Torts already had decisions made for them in certain situations, he restricted the thinking the team had to do. It obviously had a detrimental effect on puck possession, creativity (especially on the PP).

When was the last time, recently, that you'd see our defenseman just randomly slap it around the boards straight to the opposing team? It happened earlier in the year and ALWAYS happened under Torts. But now all our players are required to look up, think and process the information, and make the SMART play. Not just the 'SAFE' play.

I think this transformation happened because AV challenged Kreider to think the game, to use his judgement. I think that's what has allowed him to truly harness all his abilities. The tools have always been there but AV is forcing Kreids to use the toolbox now.

One day the excuse crew will get their stories straight for why Kreider struggled. What you're saying here contradicts the other excuse, that he was thinking too much out there.

Its pretty simple. 2 things happened over the last several weeks that have led to Kreider's improvement:

1. Getting sent down to start the season was a wake up call that he was letting his career slip away

2. He finally realized he was bigger, stronger, and faster than most of his NHL competition -- most importantly, he started moving his feet and good things have happened.

I think the light would've eventually gone on no matter who the coach is.

Well it's a popular game in the former USSR. At this point I'm about as Russian as Ben Franklin.

Perhaps you're right, it's a multifaceted issue that is impossible to pinpoint. I just find it odd because this wasn't the first time he was sent down and why now specifically that he realized that he was bigger, stronger, faster, etc than the average NHLer?

Edit: Also I think it's more complex than just whether he was thinking too much or not enough. There are quotes where Kreider was encouraged to adopt a style similar to Hagelin. Perhaps he wasn't comfortable with that and that's why he was supposedly 'overthinking' things?

But now he's in a situation where he is encouraged to play completely to his strengths and be the player he is naturally. So the 'thinking' he does now is much more natural. Hagelin, I'd say more then most players, always has his motor going and has insane stamina. Kreider's recent improvement in play seems to correlate to him picking his spots better and not always going 100% full force all the time.

It's a complex issue and I'm not trying to get a correct answer. This is too much of a grey question, impossible to say one school of thought is right or wrong. It's an interesting topic though and good food for thought.

I understand, it's why I made sure to say Russian speaker.

The 48 game season was strange in so many ways. Nobody had a chance to breathe.

I'd imagine that getting sent down, after a full training camp and before a full season, at 22 years old, was the first opportunity for a real wake up call.

The bottom line is, since the 2012 playoffs, he wasnt hustling out there - now he is. Thats the difference.

If you don't mind, reread my post for the edit. I address this somewhat. It contradicts what Kreider says himself where he was constantly on the move under Torts but is now slowing up and choosing his spots more.
