It really is pretty funny. Only a Rangers fan could worry about a player like Kreider with the way he is playing. He's made an impact in practically every single game he has been in.

Thanks to Zucc.

The thing that blows me away about Kreider is his commitment to backchecking and defense that he out of nowhere got. If we didn't have a ton of already good PKers I would want him on one of the top units. Active stick, can keep up with anyone, etc. When he was drafted did anyone here expect this defense commitment? I didn't at all. I thought he'd be a liability on defense really.

I think the better argument is the Zucc has been playing better because of Kreider.

I think they've both been very good on their own. Stepan is definitely benefitting from those two, in my opinion.

Some here are seriously concerned about Kreider's ability to finish? He has shown he knows how to finish and with authority. He did it in the 2012 playoffs. He scored the big game winner in OT against Boston last year in the playoffs. He ripped one past Brodeur in the beginning of last season (that shot was quite impressive if anyone here recalls). And he has certainly shown a bigger sample size at the college level. He knows how to score, that is why he is highly touted. And its not like he hasn't been working hard. He has been one of our hardest working forwards. He has constantly put himself in great positions to score. A couple of specific instances off the top of my head; detroit game, home game vs the ducks, and last night on that semi-breakaway. I know there are more chances I am not thinking of at the moment. He hasn't had a lot of luck. Puck hit his tape from stepan last night and bounced a little so he didn't get a clean shot. The goals will come.

Thanks to Zucc.

Haha. No. Zuccarello doesn't get the chance to setup Staal last night if Kreider doesn't win a puck battle in the neutral zone and springs him.

Your agenda against Kreider and bias for Zuccarello is clear, though, so I don't know why I bother.

Agreed. Though having a center who can finish is nice.

Still, Stepan's game is not back where it will be. Yet.

Step and Kreider have chemistry. That cannot be stressed enough. Zuke is facilitating. To me, they are also getting the D involved and moving. Great cycle line. Kreider's speed is a factor. Zuke can skate. Makes Step have to move his feet. Same with Hags and who he plays with. That to me is why Nash, Kreider, and Hags should be on separate lines. They make teammates better with speed, size, or both. Would love another scoring winger on this team even with Nash back.

It seems like Kreider has realized that when he moves his legs he's very difficult to stop.

Right? I talked to an opposing defenseman yesterday, who brought Kreider up unprompted. Said he seems twice as fast as last year. Asked him what he meant and he explained that it wasn't so much Kreider's speed but his confidence and strength in using it.Would be an uphill battle for Kreider, but I think he has a shot at at least earning consideration for the US team if he can sustain this high level of play

Thanks to Zucc.
Actually isnt ir ironic that zucc only started playing better when he was playing with kreider. Zucc was a healthy scratch and before that did nothing. I know Zucc has done well and is a fan favorite BUT i belive his success really has come with playing with Kreider and stepan.

I also think nash will/should take his place when he is healthy. I know zucc-step-kreids has been our best line BUT nash-step-kreids can be unstoppable and they all have chmeistry with eachother

or you put nash on another line and we essentially have 2 first lines.

well the cally-richards-hags line looks set. I know zucc is a fan favorite and has done well but we are talking about a elite talent who has chemistry with both stepan and kreider. its not a knock on zuccarello because he has a done a good job but i think those 2 top lines would be more productive

Like someone else said, having Kreider, Hagelin and Nash on separate lines makes sense because of how they play the game. I wouldn't touch the two lines that are rolling right now. Plus, we all know Nash and Richards don't jive. I'd put Nash with Brassard in hopes that it gets him going.

Don't fix what isn't broken.

"more productive" ? :D How much production do you want from a single line :sarcasm:

But I get it, its really important for you that Kreider plays with the 2 best Rangers forwards :yo:

Saying that the cally-richards-hags line looks set, and arguing that the Stepan line could use improvement, sits really really weird with me.

Of the 6 players in the current top6, Callahan is the guy that will contribute most with the third line

Actually im prettty sure i said many times that zucc-stepan-kreider is our best line by a mile. So you are misinterpreting what i said. I simply said that IF brassard doesnt get it together then i dont wnat to waste Nash on a line with a C who isnt contributing. Secondly i dont think kreider needs to play with 2 of teh best rangers in order to be effective. he has proven he can do it. remember he was playing well before the line was created. Also stepan was struggling and zucc was awful befor ethey started playing with kreider

Ideally you would want a big body playing on a line with Zuccarello. So far I think they're complimenting each other and Stepan. One of the more surprising things from this renaissance of Kreider is I'd always envisioned that when he finally got it he'd be a shooter and goal scorer much much more than a playmaker but he's made a lot of nice plays and quite a number of excellent scoring chances haven't been finished off by #'s 36 and 21.

That's a nice thought, but there's less than a .000001% chance Kreider goes to Sochi. He'd need to be ridiculous from now until January or better.

A point a game may get him there. Hes 23rd in scoring among american forwards right now (5th among american LWs). And hes only played in 11 games compared to ~19 for everyone else.

Kreider-Stepan-Zuccarello
Hagelin-Richards-Callahan
*****-Brassard-Nash
Boyle-Moore-Dorsett

The 2nd line is working but ideally I like Callahan and Hagelin on separate lines. Hagelin worked well with Nash.

They need another LW. Pouliot isn't the answer.

What if you play Nash on LW, and call up Kristo?
