I still can't believe that they f***in '2013 Boston Bruin'd' them in less time AND in the visitors barn.

What a win by the boys, full props to them.

You can look at trends with numbers to get a good idea of the future, that's why analytics is a thing. It's not impossible that he'll be a star player but it's unlikely given the numbers he's put up.

When did I ever say he wasn't good?
"That's why analytics is a thing"

Man this is straight up why numbers people get a bad rep in hockey. Your pretentiousness is obnoxious.

Big wins/goals in the expansion era. Only ones bigger so far because they won a series:

- McDonald scoring game 7 OT against the upcoming dynasty Islanders

- Borechevsky OT game 7 against favoured Wings.

This comeback win is special though, to make it truly historic they must close out this series.

Are there some patterns you can detect if you compare a player's point totals to historical scoring numbers in their league? Yeah, sure. But that's not even close to telling you the full story on prospects. Teams wouldn't spend all that money on scouting departments if they could just search up a player's point totals and know everything they need to know
You obviously need to watch players to look at their full game and also if it translates well to the nhl, but looking at numbers can give you a good idea of offensive upside in the NHL.

He’s a moron for basically telling the truth and the way it is?
At the end of the day, Toronto outscored, outhit, and outshot TB.

His arrogance and smugness after all his chirping is what makes it cringe-worthy.

Lmao firstly I think its hilarious youre quoting that I'm specifically not using numbers when I'm the guy *always* quoting numbers. I straight up use my own formula for NHLe that adjusts for player age. Not to mention I'm the guy constantly combing through underlyings on obscure league websites, comparing past production, and subscribe to the guys that track the underlyings for the CHL/NCAA and NHLe models. I also have watched quite a bit of each of our prospects, and I especially take interest in guys like Knies and Niemela.

The issue here is you're over-reliant on the production numbers and you're breaking away from the context of the situation. His numbers have *always* been impressive going back to his D-1. Issues in his D0 with sickness & injury caused him to stagnate production-wise (which allowed us to scoop him up), and he "stagnated" again this year because he's playing with like 12 top-90 draft picks. He also played with a guy I consider to be a bit of a puck hog in Cooley. When you play with great players, everyone is going to get theirs. Not to mention they don't need to be over-reliant on one line like other teams in the NCAA are forced to be. Production also doesn't take into account things like how Knies was arguably the best transition player in the NCAA based on the tracking stats and how he also creates a ridiculous amount of HD chances; which has already started showing up at the pro level. Unlike a guy like Snuggerud, Knies production wasnt based on an absurd amount of secondary points either, which is a major red flag. Production is important at junior levels as its still the best tool we have at projecting pro success, but using it on it's own as a comparative tool is asinine. We might as well crown Grebyonkin a future star F with the numbers he put up in the KHL this year. No development is linear, and looking at past examples just limit your expectations, when the ability to project a player like Knies is limitless. He has all the skill in the world, an amazing shot, and still has some things I'd love (and I'm sure the would Leafs) for him to work on like his vision and passing. There's absolutely star potential there, but I've always maintained he's a physical version of JVR- a 30 goal, 60 point player, but you know if it clicks there's more.
So the fact that an 18 year old in Cooley destroyed knies in points on the same team and the fact that (as far as I know) no other player has had similar numbers and gone on to be a star player doesn't make you think it's much more likely that knies ends up being a kreider or jvr than a ppg star player? Not to mention every scouting report I've read makes it seem like he's probably going to be a second liner.

So, two fortunate wins in Tampa. While not playing our best hockey and knowing The Bolts would, and did, come at us hard. This has to be an encouraging outcome for the team, and if I’m Keefe I’m prepping this team for a full 60 minute effort on Thursday. Not a ‘weather the opening storm’, or ‘bring it early and bury them’ mentality, but a ‘we can win this if everyone buys into a complete, every shift mindset’.
*i think the extra day is going to help Gio.
*we have to play disciplined hockey, no retaliation penalties.
*Knies has to stay in.
*Sammy, bring it.
*use our depth down the middle to throw 3 lines at them, lines that can exhaust their D.
*our best have been fine. Now is their time to close out the series. They’re good enough, go out and do it.

Leafs in 5. GLG!

Could not agree more. He just reminds me of that one dude in beer league who just screams and yells to sound tough. But in reality he's soft as baby shit and just annoying as hell.

Like that clip of him screaming at Schenn on Saturday is actually so cringy. As if Schenner even remotely took his bullshit seriously. The funny thing is, Hagel knows Schenn would never go him given the size mismatch, so he just pops off like a chihuahua knowing nothing is going to happen. I'm sure his teammates think he's annoying as f*** TBH.

He's like their Bunting

One of those guys who starts a fight knowing 10 people will get in between them. Then when 3 guys are holding him back he will feign rage "let me at 'em!"

For those playing along at home.
I believe the comment was made after the second period last night. Toronto played better in the second, but the game before and the first period last night, Tampa was far superior. I’m not saying it means anything, but his comments were not outlandish

4 shots in the first but the Leafs played better from that point on. They even ended up tying the face offs after losing all night.

Matty Beniers says hi.
Chris Kreider says hi.
Matthew Boldy says hi.
Alex Tuch says hi.

When was the last time the Leafs won a playoff game they trailed by 3 goals in?

There must be a few, but I believe it was a long time ago. 1993?

When was the last time the comeback was entirely 3rd period? (If we assume 2020 wasn't real playoffs)

Has it ever happened?

Here's the game. It was 4-1. But the leaf comeback started midway through the 2nd. So maybe not as dramatic.

I'm sure nothing in team history tops the comeback against Columbus so if we're looking for a historical example to rival last night, we have to at least say that the preliminary round in the bubble didn't count as real playoffs.

So I think this game from 1993 is the closest to last night in 30 years, but I don't know yet if there's been anything else comparable
