Seems like Holmstrom is finally putting it together, 11 points in his last 10 games
Amazing what ice time does to a talented kid who finally had a fully stable non-Covid year. Doesn't even turn 21 until late May but has already played three years in the AHL. He's grown a little too, NHL.com has him now listed at 6'2" and 202. Ten more pounds of muscle and he's excellent size.

From his draft year:

An offensively skilled player who competes hard. Holmström is a good skater and stands out with really good hands and impressive puckhandling skills. Quite shifty and a player that can do the unexpected offensively. Has a good wrister and his two-way game is underrated. Great character and team player. (EP 2019)

Hockeyprospect.com: 2019 - He is trusted to be on the ice in all situations and he is just as good on the box play as he is on the powerplay,

Future Considerations: 2019 - He has elite acceleration and top speed, and he can handle the puck and stickhandle his way through traffic while maintaining high speed

McKeen's Hockey: 2019 - With the puck on his stick, he can be dazzling, whether deking past defenders, or fooling them with passes from the behind the net

Draftin Europe: 2019 - A deft skater with some explosiveness to his game. Has remarkable passing ability and likes to set up teammates from below the goal line

I think it would be interesting to see him and Raty together in Bridgeport early next year. Hopefully with Holmstrom it's one of those cases he exponentially improves playing with more skilled guys. Hopefully, spot duty in the NHL next year, earning a regular slot in two years.

We'll see if the reward any of the Bridgeport guys at the end of this season when there's no chance to make the playoffs.

Well said. I don't think there's any benefit of bringing up AHL kids now. Better for them play meaningful minutes gaining experience during a bit of a playoff chase. After that they can come up and get eased into some NHL playing time.

Doesn't exactly seem to help the PARENT team very much, when you look at which team wins the Calder Cup . . . a Who's Who of lottery teams for the most part

Unfortunately, Aho is simply a liability on a game to game basis. Sure, he does a few nice things every once and while, but he's in the middle of a goal against EVERY SINGLE GAME. Like smack dab in the middle.

This made a move like calling up Hutton inevitable, and rightly so. The guy has been on fire. The little Islanders have been cruising. He earned a shot at getting another look. Fortunately for BPort, they've got 8 healthy bodies on that blueline, so hopefully having Hutton on the Island won't dent any thing down on the farm.

As far as the organization is concerned, there'd be a great deal of value in having the baby Islanders make the playoffs. I'd even say it's of the utmost importance in light of where the Isles are at just now, with those losses to Boston and Tampa perhaps being THE death knell on this season.

+ = on IR or just hurt

(?) - there are rumors Ben Mirageas was cut from Providence and may be retiring from hockey.

He’s having a nice season. Adding Raty and Dufour next season will only help BPT. I wonder what they do with Wilde.
That's been on my mind for sometime now, what's happening with Wilde? Will non-vaccinated players be returning next year? And how has the high ankle sprain healed. Is he progressing, I think he's the forgotten man who might quietly be developing into a viable asset. He is a D-man and that requires more time and the injury set him back for sure lets hope he surprises everyone next year.

Unfortunately, vaccination status aside, can't say he has progressed this year.

Playing in Sweden's 2nd league, the same league Alex Ljungkrantz and Henri Tikkanen are also playing in, he had 1-9-10 in 40 games and now has 1-1-2 in 5 playoff games. He's a combined -1 with 10 total penalty minutes this season.

I guess the absolute best thing to take from this is that he at least finally got in a full, basically injury-free season of play. But absolutely no clue where the offense has gone to or what it all means for next year.

Wilde is quite the unknown entity in these parts.

One thing is for sure. His ankle injury should be a non-issue at this point in time. It occurred in August 2020.

I imagine it is quite an adjustment moving to Sweden and expecting to prove you are NHL bound. He in a way did it to himself but I didn’t expect him to excel in Sweden and hope he recovers and blossoms into more in line with a strong NHL prospect. He is only 22 years old.

Big factor with the production is probably his ice time, he very rarely sees minutes. I hope he is allowed to come back next season because if he doesn't get back on track... sheesh

Yep, no telling where things will go with the Covid issue next season.

The Islanders were basically the first team to come out and say they demand full vaccination of all of their employees and players.

If the new season were starting now, I can't imagine any team would be taking that stand.

Right?

How did the Panthers not draft this kid???

Transitioning from the Sea Dogs to the Sound Tigers should be pretty smooth. Two animals that don't actually exist.
