How weird would it be if Raty wasn't the goods at this point? This guys +1 draft year has been insane.
I drafted him first round in my keeper
Ill follow closely how he develops ! Loved the camp. And the wjss. Also his start in liiga. I hope he is goig to become a top6, but ill still have to wait. I’m being parient because of the small period and liiga level. Juuso parssinen is producing really well, is he a future top 6?! Tolvanen will become a first liner ? He was top 5 in some prospect rankings !

Where exactly if you don't mind me asking?
I would like to see him on the left wing with Nelson or Pageau next season. Maybe even Center down the road. Not saying he is going to be a second rd steal like Aho was, but he may be a more rounded young player than Wally will be, where his main contribution is goal scoring. I see Raty as more versatile a player, a few more tools in the toolbox.

Speaking of a prospect we rarely talk about, has anyone had a chance to see Christian Krygier much?

Good size for a stay-at-home LHD who has NHL lineage so you'd think his hockey IQ is good. Academic All-American. Sounds like Hutton on the left side.

Way less offensive, but should be a long-time minor-pro. He has good bloodlines, is a coaches son, and USA Hockey likes him.

Dufour and Raty have certainly given the prospects core a good boost this season. Holmstrom looks to be developing also. Just need Bolduc to pick up where he left off last season. We have seen Salo already, looks like he will be sticking around next year with the Isles.

While I really hope the Isles find a way to pull out of their tailspin to start this season, I'm also very happy with the development (at least so far) of Sorokin (taking the next step towards being a franchise goalie in the NHL), Raty, Dufour, Holmstrom, Salo, etc.

I want to be very clear that my first choice is to see the Isles make the playoffs and make another deep run, however, for a team that has taken some very big steps over the last several seasons, a little adversity isn't necessarily a bad thing.

It allows for a terrific look at who works harder and steps up vs. who sulks and/or quits.

Organic growth isn't necessarily linear and, for a team that has taken multiple steps forward the last few years, a slight backslide, followed by adding some new blood, shuffling around some assets, etc. could be beneficial for the long term.

Of course it will be very important to NOT deal next year's first rounder, until closer to the trade deadline and when a better idea has been formed on if the Isles can get into legitimate playoff position.

No way I want to see them potentially move a lottery pick, which would either need to be protected (specifically if it ends up in the top 3) or only used in a larger deal for a young sniper, with term to play on the top line.

It is still a big positive that the Isles young prospects named above (and Sorokin), have been developing well. Hopefully Dobson and Wahlstrom get untracked and finish strong at the NHL level as well.

A down year for the overall team wouldn't be very exciting this season, however, it could present a great opportunity to retool a bit and get players, who might not otherwise see big minutes, some very important experience.

Challenging these young players to navigate initial growing pains, then come back better the following season ready to make an impact, will help the Isles get younger, faster and more skilled for the long haul.

Couldn’t agree more.

Lou won’t sell NHL regulars for futures. I’d be ok with a hockey trade with established players but if they’re clearly not competitive at the TDL, let’s hope he doesn’t trade next year’s #1 pick for a band aid fix.

I was at the Baby Islanders game last night and Holmstrom looked good. I wouldn’t be surprised if he got a cup of coffee at some point this season and was a legitimate call up option next year.

Maybe I am overzealous, or just plain crazy, but he seems like the ideal third-line player to me, alongside JGP and a natural goal scorer, like Wahlstrom (or perhaps Palms, if he gets pushed down by Wahlstrom AND can finally start scoring goals again). Holmstrom's natural passing ability and skating seems perfect for a third line that will challenge weaker/shallow teams.

Definitely. I think you can gamble with Colorado's second rounder, however, the first rounder needs to go for that missing piece on the top line or saved.

This is exactly where Holmstrom will land in my opinion watching the baby isles games this year. He is just solid up and down the wing player, good skills and will be player that plays on both special teams units and in a good year gets 40-50 points.

I think Holmstrom is a RW at the pro level for various reasons and I'm ticketing him to be the successor for Bailey.

I think RW is definitely prefered and, if Holmstrom can replace Bailey at or near the minimum for a few seasons, all the better. Of course the issue then becomes finding a home for Bailey elsewhere - and the cost to get that done. Right now Bailey is the Outbreak monkey, until he shows otherwise, lol.
