Where does he fit? Isles have some tough decisions to make.

Does he play LHD and can he carry a transition game? :sarcasm:

In all seriousness, I am very happy to see Golyshev thriving in the AHL.

Especially after (I believe) one of the international/KHL posters mentioned that Golyshev was really impacted by Covid, health wise, last season. At least I thought someone posted that info.

I hope to catch a game soon, maybe later today against Springfield (if I can get motivated), and will report back. But has anyone seen Golyshev with Bridgeport this season? Has he played a defensively-responsible, two-way game?

If Golyshev has done the little things that will ingratiate him to Trotz, I assume he is the first AHL recall, if/when an injury occurs to a winger.

It would be fantastic for the long-term success of this Isles team if Golyshev can make it in the NHL. He would just need to be defensively responsible and hold his own along the boards, given his offensive creativity and PP skills.

The continued progression of Golyshev (KHL to the AHL), Holmstrom (please stay healthy and get stronger), Raty and Dufour, along with Wahlstrom, Beau and maybe even Koivula (as cheap center depth), could set the Isles up for years.

Stape you are off the beat, stop caring and fear mongering. We haven’t heard a word of him being unhappy down there, let him dominate and help that team win. His time will come, injuries will happen.
Isn’t the way we hear most things through them working their way to reporters? Not like Anatoly’s is gonna text me.

Why would Golyshev head back to Russia?? He is on a one way $750,000 contract that likely pays him more than in the KHL, while being a UFA at the end of this season. Golyshev will likely be in the NHL at the latest after the trade deadline and for the the rest of the season and playoffs. If he has a good year at the Bridge many NHL scouts will be watching and Goly will more than likely get multiple offers from teams once free agency begins if he does not come to an extension with the Isles. Staple sadly has nothing else to write about the Islanders.

I’m thinking of going up there tonight as well. Mainly because they’re hosting Springfield and it’s a chance to see someone other than Providence or Hartford.

Since tonight is the 2nd of a 3 in 3 for Bridgeport (they host Hartford tomorrow at 3PM) I’d hate to drive up there only to find Golyshev is scratched tonight and playing tomorrow. I guess that’s life in the minor leagues.

It appears that Otto Koivula has 10 points in his last nine games, with the Bridgeport Islanders. I am still not sure if he will be an NHL regular, specifically at center, but the fast start and numbers are encouraging. For anyone that has seen Otto, how is his skating coming along these days?

Better but he is no speedster, as long as he can get to the net he can be productive. Defensively is where it kills him, he isn’t agile enough to handle tough assignments and responsibilities, likely his barrier (along with Cizikas) to never being a regular NHLer with Trotz as HC. He’s a good trade chip though.

He is a winger if he makes it NHL IMO, he isn’t a good defensive center snd isn’t good on face offs either. He has size to play wing though, I agree he is probably an add in trade chip.

Can someone with a true understanding of prospects/developmental leagues give an informed/objective view on which current prospects in the Isles system are truly almost "sure things" to be regular NHLers in the coming years?

Obviously nothing is 100%, but not looking for hopeful comments on guys like Otto Koivula. Unless a prospect was playing overseas or in the NCAA usually if they haven't played a full NHL season by 21 the chances of them become a regular NHLer are slim.

I'm looking for a list of the prospects who if they continue on their current path will play 5+ years in the NHL in some capacity (and will probably be ready to play in the NHL in the next 2 years).

You getting tired of bashing the current youngsters on the team and looking for the next crop of fresh meat so you can prepare? :sarcasm:
