I just knew Flopqvist was going to give up a goal when Joe said the Islanders haven't faced a shot yet in the 3rd period. How many more years until he retires? I'm a Mets fan and I felt the same way about David Wright. Both guys are beloved by the fan base but both guys also have the stench of "never winning a title" surrounding them and always have. Guys like Messier were the exact opposite. Clutch winners. Please retire already, Hank.

I value my mental health more each day after reading this type of material.

Could very well be the single worst post in the 17+ year history of this fourm.

Wait, at this point would it be the utmost Rongo for them to go 39-0 the rest of the way and blow it in a four game sweep round one ? Pick #23 incoming.

I watched the winning goal again because I don't like myself very much.

That is a low-key AWFUL, blooper-reel, howler of a defensive play.

It doesn't look like it because it wasn't a comical turnover, or getting walked, or going for a skate. See, it just wasn't spectacular enough for that. Plays like that involve some offense.

This was literally nothing -a random toss to nowhere- that became a prime, royal road chance because Pionk just....didn't play defense.

Forget gap "control," he neglected to realize there was a gap. Or an attacker. Or a puck. Puck incoming, skate right past it, watch as your man puts it in two feet in front of you.

Obviously the magnitude is way smaller in a tank game vs SCF, but purely from a hockey standpoint, that goal is right up there with Girardi cocking the gun and handing it to Justin Williams in game 1.

Also, I hope he turns it around and I do realize he's kinda young, but Pionk is just not a good player. He probably shouldn't be in the NHL right now, let alone on the first pair. Sure, he's good on the power play, but his actual defensive skills are abysmal.

Being paired with Staal surely can't be of any help, but right now I have a hard time seeing how this kid lasts in the NHL.

That being said, he is good for the tank, so I'm fine with him and STaal logging enormous minutes night after night.

Honestly, besides winning the cup, landing the 1st OA would be the second best achievement of any team league-wide.

He know that too many of you guys on this forum want Henrik to win games even though it dont help the New York Rangers Franchise in the summer draft hence his post, and it was not a good game for Henrik to be honest.

Same fans talking rebuild, tank, blah blah blah and at the same time complaining because these young players are making mistakes. That's what rebuilds are about. The VETERANS making boneheaded moves are fair game.

I think the major issue a lot of people have( myself included) is not that the rookies or younger guys make mistakes. At least I understand that’s part of the development process. The issue is, I just see such limited upside to pretty much every single talent currently below 25 that I just don’t think the Rangers have a bright future with any of these guys. I hope I feel different in a year or two when this while roster shakes out, but aside from Mica and Kreider, I just can’t see much to get excited about!

For a long time, I have been of the belief that Lundqvist is overrated, very overrated. In actuality, not sure if I think it is HIM is overrated or the position itself or the need for a top goalie is overrated. However, that goal was not on him, not even close. Secondly, that "never winning a title" stench is not on him. Never had the skaters to win a Cup.

Neal "Puck Awareness" Pionk
From what I can see, he does not bring enough offense to make up for his defensive deficiencies. I know he is young, so not saying to trade him or send him to Hartford, and I am all for the re-build so the L's do not bother me. Just saying that if his defensive game does not improve or his offense does not improve to the point that we can accept the lack of defense, then I really hope they do not see him in the long-term plans.

I really hope we wisen up on Pionk... he’s not 18. He has very similar strikes on him that ADA has. Pionk went undrafted, ADA bounced around as a prospect. Personally I don’t see Pionk developing into much more than what he currently is(a decent bottom pairing guy)

Howden is fighting it a bit and that can happen easily enough for a rookie on a poor club . I think a game in the press box could work very well for him...maybe even two....same for Pionk . Again...a rookie in the NHL attempting to play defense on a team where your own goalie is always ready to eat your first born ! I too would also like to see D'Angelo play a stretch of 5-6 games to see what he actually could do....give him a real shot or else cut bait with him and move him on elsewhere . It would not hurt if Staal/Shattenkirk /Pionk sat out a few games....not like they are putting us in a position to make a Cup run. It is frustrating for us all on here but there are some positives on the road to the bottom ....stay the course.

I disagree on Howden, he's playing well outside of scoring and putting him in the press box puts extra pressure on a rookie who is working hard but just needs a break. If the effort wasnt there I'd agree but hes working, the puck just isnt going in for him.
With DeAngelo,he can play the whole year in a row if he would just play hockey, stay out of the box and listen to the coaches, it's up to him if he wants to or if he wants to continue to block out the coaches suggestions.

And what's wrong with that?

Pionk should be paired with Claussen.
