I think the major issue a lot of people have( myself included) is not that the rookies or younger guys make mistakes. At least I understand that’s part of the development process. The issue is, I just see such limited upside to pretty much every single talent currently below 25 that I just don’t think the Rangers have a bright future with any of these guys. I hope I feel different in a year or two when this while roster shakes out, but aside from Mica and Kreider, I just can’t see much to get excited about!

This says more about your and fellow fans in your camp's awareness then it does the state of the team.

Outside of Chytil and maybe Howden, all of the under 25 talent we should be excited about is playing elsewhere. There are a lot of reasons to be excited about the future of this team, especially if we do well this off-season. It's absolutely insane to me that people are upset that nearly all the players on this team suck. It was obvious that this was going to be the case both last year and when the roster was announced this year.

Chytil, Howden and maybe ADA were the only ones with promise. Howden and Chytil have, predictably, hit a serious wall and should be sent down. But to not be excited about what they showed this year is just sad. ADA of course has been disappointing, but he was always a volatile prospect.

Other than that, many of our prospects have had very, very exciting seasons. There's a lot to look forward to. But obviously if you're hoping to see it on the big club, you're going to be sorely disappointed. I would recommend following the prospects thread if you're looking for some hope.

I disagree on Howden, he's playing well outside of scoring and putting him in the press box puts extra pressure on a rookie who is working hard but just needs a break. If the effort wasnt there I'd agree but hes working, the puck just isnt going in for him.
With DeAngelo,he can play the whole year in a row if he would just play hockey, stay out of the box and listen to the coaches, it's up to him if he wants to or if he wants to continue to block out the coaches suggestions.

One of the reasons the puck's not going in for Howden is he's not getting enough shots on net. 47 in 42 games. He's got maybe 3 or 4 points in the last 25 games? Right now he looks kind of like a boy among men and if we were a deeper team he would probably be in Hartford. He certainly wouldn't be playing for the Lightning if he were in that organization---he would be in Syracuse. Howden has had a good season all in all but I don't think it would hurt him at all to sit now and again--the problem being who is going to play instead of him?

Staal-Pionk have been such a bad pair, why does this staff cling to them like they're some shutdown top pair? I get that there's not much talent back there but the defense has been really bad overall, why not try and shake things up? At this point the only good pair we have is Claesson-Shattenkirk and they don't get to spend enough time together because of all the rotating scratches.

I think at this point its solely to a) get pionk minutes, and b) make staal's ridiculous cap hit justifiable.

Pionk is rather coachable... He's got great skating abilities and an OK first pass. The organization is not this stupid, they have to understand that he's not a 1st pairing defender at this point. Doesn't mean he can't be, but right now he is not.

Let him grow before we decide this. We were told that the Rangers "Would never rebuild" and yet here we are, rebuilding... I highly doubt we make the same mistake again like we did with Girardi

Zucc back on track, even with the physical stuff, that's the positive thing. Thank you Quinn for helping him out.

Just leave already, you should know what team Zucc is going to at this poiint since you actually are him?

I thought Shattenkirk was actually good this game. Which I did not expect.

I feel as one of his detractors I need to show it's not that I just blindly dislike his game.

I agree I thought he had a really good game. You gotta keep playing this guy into trade discussions. Amazing thinking he’s going to be successful for you by not playing him on the power play literally the reason you signed him.

Seemed like there was an invisible person tugging on his shirt from behind, he literally was "heavy headed" in the backside of his head. Another 4 minutes i will never get back, and makes me think 2 things.

I believe i was NEVER that wasted.
Makes me think about never drinking again.
Aaaah, nope.

We'll have one of the best teams in the league in the not so distant future. Keep your head up my friend. It has to get bad before it gets better.

We need to hit rock bottom. Something this organization hasn't ever done before.
Beg to differ, but then again it depends on what you believe is "rock bottom". We all really KNOW they simply need to add more talent to their "small pool of talent" they have collected already.

Turn the gas on.
Let it boil.
Add talented players
Let them stew a bit
And serve

Adding a Panarin, and future players in the category of a Hayes/Vesey/Pionk........players will want to play for the Rangers, always have and always will. We should be fine, just needs time to cook.

I'm in a delightful mood until I picture Pionk in 2022-23.

Again, the commitment to the process is awesome, but this team's propensity for bad players doesn't seem to have gone away at all.
I can make you feel better.
Just imagine Pionk in the role of a Shatty, but younger.
3rd pairing and PP specialist. There now, doesnt that ease your pain?

Wait, at this point would it be the utmost Rongo for them to go 39-0 the rest of the way and blow it in a four game sweep round one ? Pick #23 incoming.
Are you really competing with nyrangersfanatic? He just made the worst post ever, and now this? And all those horrific sounding titanic videos?

I vote for this one as the........worst ever, post game thread.

From what I can see, he does not bring enough offense to make up for his defensive deficiencies. I know he is young, so not saying to trade him or send him to Hartford, and I am all for the re-build so the L's do not bother me. Just saying that if his defensive game does not improve or his offense does not improve to the point that we can accept the lack of defense, then I really hope they do not see him in the long-term plans.
I may be of the minority but......is it at all possible that pairing him with Marc, would be in hopes of him becoming a better defensive player? He has good offensive ability, but in order for him to be better defensively......give him the ultimate responsibility in playing with someone that thinks he is a good offensive player/skater as Marc tends to think. I'm not trying to be mean to Marc here, but couldn't that just be the case? Marc does a lot of good things on the ice, so being alongside him......wouldnt that help Pionk learn and pick up on things?
Part of the master plan, don't ya' see?

I think that Tony RELISHES the thought of being the "bad ass" type player that will stick up for his teammates. (And, isnt that what Quinn requested of his players from the getgo?)
When a player doesnt get the playing time he wants/needs/feels he deserves.........then he wants to do additional things to PROVE that he should be in there. How many times have we heard Maloney say......"be noticed". Unfortunately, Tony wants that badly, and i would assume that Quinn doesn't want one of our dmen to be in the box for 10 minutes, as it hurts the defensive rotation. And Tony has screwed that up many times. So, i guess that is where the line is drawn by Quinn. Therefore, is limited in his playing time. Isn't getting it.
He needs to simplify, and stay out of the box (like above said).....thats what we have Mcleod for. Even McQuaid doesn't partake as much as he woukd like.......why? He's a veteran and knows better.

2 straight top 5 picks will definitely bolster the team.

Along with that the way Gorton is loading up on D we will have one of the best D core. I'm fine waiting 3-4 years for this team to be competitive.

I get all that. And I think there's definite upside. But I think there is still a ton to be done and everything needs to break right.

You're assuming that there are no injuries, everyone pans out and that there no other setbacks. And that the talent evaluation has been spot-on.

Glad you mentioned this, because i am one as well. He IMO, played one of his best games as a Ranger (that isn't saying much) but find it very INTRIGUING that it should come at the hands of an Islander game. Guess he really is a true Rangers fan. Probably hates that team as much as we do. Good on him, and now i wanna see him back it up with another good game.

he stole the sports almanac book from marty mcfly

Belief? Blind faith? Being a true Rangers fan? Maybe he's a Mets fan, like i am. Hey, miracles happen, not often but they do and that is why its called a miracle.

Look, I'm not trying to the negative one around here. But I think there's still a lot to be done. And I will be patient. I just am leery of the idea of "give it time and then will be good again." If all their top prospects don't pan out, then their not going to be "one of the best teams in the league" (and, yes, I get this is not unique to the Rangers). Also, the Rangers have been one of the best teams in the league. But they never got over the hump because they lacked the two hardest pieces to acquire—a true, legit #1 center and a true, legit #1 defenseman. And I don't see those pieces in the organization at present.

for the rangers to be a cup contender again, and i mean a top notch team they really need to burn it down, which to an extent i think they are doing....that means goodbye to hayes, zucc, maybe fast, kreider if the price is right

you trade those pieces, especially kreider you can bet theres a good chance we can get that legit #1 d or forward
