Friedman: Islanders team most likely to make a move for a forward

Purcell won't add a thing to this team and no interest in taking on Gaborik's long contract. No thanks.

I think they might take the chance on Gaborik. Contract is manageable for them, especially if they send Halak to LA in that trade. LA is desperate for a veteran goalie, Isles are desperate for a scoring winger. Salaries are fairly close. Long term, Isles have Kulemin and Grabovsky coming off the books next year, freeing up space for resigning Tavares. Extra years of Gaborik won't cripple their cap. When Quick returns next year, LA can trade Halak, who will have good value in final year of his contract.

A RW for Tavares has been a problem for the Isles since forever, but those are not easy to aquire. Time and again they have tried to look for gold on the scrapheap solution (Concaher, Bouchard and many others) with little luck.

I can see them looking to move Halak for a forward and maybe add De Haan or Hickey for the right kind of deal. In such a deal term would be coming back and it would have to be a team looking to rid themselves of a forward to aquire goaltending or D.

Unless you said they both have to be Slovak, you couldn't more perfectly describe a Halak for Gaborik trade. One team needs a goalie, some cap relief, and can move a forward. The other has too many goalies, needs a scoring right wing, and can take on term.

I wonder if Atkinson from Columbus makes any sense. I recall Columbus fans saying that they will have a hard time protecting both of them (Viqsiiii...? :))

Obviously they aren't that top tier most Isles fans would want, but they are something. And if this is really bad - I am a neutral, so don't slay other fans for this. :)

Could something around JvR and Barzal be worked out?

I realize that it is shuffling chairs around and doesn't do much for our defensive woes but it does open a spot for Griffith, Leivo, Holland, etc.

I know I will get heat for this but how cheap can we get Moulson, he did well with JT and he can at least hit the net on SO! I know he's limited and now older but he can put the puck in the net with the right players! And I realize he's not the solution but short term he may be the answer and I'm guessing it wouldn't take much to get him!

Does very little for us now or even moving forward.

Look at their defensive players if you want to make a trade. This is what we should give up our assets for.

Eberle always plays well when he's on the ice with Tavares.

I'm not sure the Oil can afford to give him up at the moment, but still, I think he'd be a good option for the Islanders.

Eberle is pretty maligned on the Islanders board but he seems to be the perfect fit. I honestly don't know what it would take to get him and I would hesitate to offer any real blue chip prospects, but Ladd (or Bailey) - JT - Eberle would be a much better 1st line than what we've been rolling recently.

I would happily take Eberle for something non-essential. Don't know the ++ involved, but if it takes Dal Colle to be in a deal, I'd consider it.

As a Habs fan I would be open to a trade around Leddy + vs Pacioretty.

The latter being from the area also makes it plausible. And I don't expect the + to be that big

I don't think you would find any NYI fan open to trading Leddy for Pacioretty.

What is going on lately? Why do MTL fans think Nick Leddy is available? He's been in a ton of trade proposals to MTL here. And if he were to get traded, there's no chance anything would be added to him for Pacioretty.

Pacioretty is also from Connecticut, not Long Island. As someone who grew up in one and went to college in the other, they might as well be two different worlds.

I don't think the Oil want to move Eberle right now, not when they're finally playing well. That being said, if management decided he was available dal colle seems interesting. I know he's been passed by a few other prospects, but his stats seem decent and he was a 5th overall only a couple years ago. Scouting reports from isles fans?

From my other team, i think stafford wouldn't be too expensive and is generally a 20 or so goal scorer. Or if you want bargain bin prices, burmistrov is probably available.
