I wish the Ilses good luck, finding a capable top 6 forward. At a reasonable cost, without an issue or two is pretty hard .

Budaj's had back to back shutouts IIRC.

Against two of the bottom teams in the league. Do the Kings trust their season to basically a career backup, a guy who's never even started a playoff game?

Toffoli would obviously be terrible overpayment, but no need for Halak at all?

Halak makes to much money for too long of time frame (2 years) Budja is playing well (2 shutouts in last 2 games) who is 7-3-0 with a 1.86 goals-against average and .919 save percentage. Better numbers then Halak I would rather stay with what we have thanks :)

check out his numbers in 10 games above . Quick will be back in Jan. so not the whole season. Halak actually has worse numbers fun fact there. The kings are fine with there 3rd string goalie for a couple months

You would only keep Halak for this year. Next year when Quick is back, you trade Halak, who will have good value in final year of his contract.

Wishful thinking. Kings need to prepare as if Quick will be out all season.

goalies don't have much value and if you think they do you find a trade and deal with it. I'm not acquiring someone just to trade him 6 months later sorry not happening La may get stuck with halak and zatkoff not to mention the better then avg budja. Thanks but no thanks

Check out budja numbers again ? Budja is 7-3-0 with a 1.86 goals-against average and .919 save percentage. Do you seriously think we need goaltending help ? Especially one with a 4.5 million dollar cap hit for another season? If la goes for a goalie it will be a ufa to be thanks We already have zatkoff signed for next year

Well to be fair, Quick is scheduled to be healthy sometime during January IIRC, so I guess unless there is another big slide, I assume they are going to try and make it until then and see how Quick looks before adding a goaltender for the playoffs.

Islanders should look to the Jets.

They have tons of forwards. Wheeler, Laine, Stafford, and Armia down the right side. Armia could be an interesting acquisition.

I think the isles could afford to give up a dman for sure. It is imperative for them to get a top 6 forward or they dont make the playoffs. Any of skinner JVR patches would be great. I think leddy is being overrated in this thread as I would probably trade him for patches

I agree with this. Good perspective from an outside fan of another team. Only problem the kings have right now is have Dwight King playing top 6 mins This will disappear in dec when gaborik comes off ir

Rangers and Islanders actually make great trading partners. We need defense. You guys need forwards. It would never happen but still interesting to think about.
I thought of this too.
Actually he looked to be better with Nielsen my bad.
Yeah that's the ticket. Didn't want to pay 5.5 and 6 for the second line and opted for 5.5 next to JT with Ladd but it hasn't worked so far. Good or bad thing is that there is time for them to eventually pair up again.
If NYI didn't sign Ladd it may have been a fit, now there's no chance.

Yeah I like Bobby for JT. Contract wise, less so. Then again we pay Lee 4.75 for nothing right now.

Islanders are 10th in GF and 21st in GA.

Why would the Islanders focus on offense?

Quick is going to be back later in the season, possibly sometime around the All-Star break. Halak has another year at 4.5 million which doesn't seem like the best cap management for a team with little cap room. Kings at this point are just hoping Budaj/Zatkoff can keep the team above water until Quick is back.

Before Budaj's decent run, they were kicking the tires on an upgrade but it virtually had to be a guy on an expiring deal or counted little against the cap. Halak didn't fit either of those two requirements.

Things the Isles DON'T need:

LWs
More depth guys
More old, over the hill guys with terrible contracts (Gaborik)
Guys who have passed through waivers, lol (Frk) or are close to that point (Holland, Jurco)

I don't really see how it would make sense for the Jackets to move Atkinson. They already lack NHL depth at RW, why would they decimate that depth any further? As it stands, the depth chart on the right side is Foligno-Atkinson-Anderson-Gagner-Bjorkstrand.

As for the expansion draft concerns, they'll protect Dubinsky, Hartnell, Foligno, Saad, Jenner, Wennberg, and one of Atkinson/Anderson/Karlsson (all assuming Clarkson ends up being exempt/exposed because of LTIR). At the moment, I'd say that Atkinson would be protected because he's a proven player, but Anderson's play so far has been encouraging. He's cheaper than Cam, too, and with Cam looking for a pay raise in 2 years it'll be interesting how this is handled.

There's no way Anderson is going unprotected. I think they'll have to figure something out, possibly a trade.

Same here Okposo was pretty good on JTs wing, Ladd not so much would rather Snow resigned Okposo over signing Ladd.

Okposo was terrible on Tavares' wing. He was fairly good anchoring the 2nd line, though.

Okposo at $6m is a lot better than Ladd at $5.5m, and it was a big mistake.

I can live with the fact that Leddy is not available, but calling Pacioretty a depth player is laughable. I personally do not like him due to his lack of competitiveness but he's a top 5 LW for goals over the last few years and has a good contract.

And the purpose of this thread is to discuss options to improve the Isles offensively and Pacioretty fits that bill.

I wasn't referring to MaxPac as "depth". When I said "acquiring them for 'depth'" I meant that folks were acting as though other team's core players could be their supporting cast (altho I can see how it might be seen otherwise; mea culpa, bad phrasing). Some of the offers have admittedly been that atrociously bad, but really the big issue is that folks are inquiring after these names at all.

If he keeps playing like this, sure. I'm just not conceding the "no, really, he's more important to the team than Atkinson now" debate we've had until he's done it for a bit longer. :D

You think the Isles/Jets talked endlessly last year with Hamonic situation was in play.

JVR for Hamonic (I know Hamonic injured, but the Leafs can wait.

I took tavares 1st in my pool and then the next day looked how awful the islanders lineup was.

Ladd has been a plug, i think clutterbuck was on tavares wing the other week.
