I did a brief mock with just random numbers just to see how much we have for each position.

Tavares for 11.5
Carlson for 9.5
Nelson for 4
Pulock for 3.5
Grubauer for 3
Johnston for 850k

Gives us:

Lee Tavares Bailey
Beauvillier Barzal Eberle
Ladd Nelson Ho-Sang
Johnston Cizikas Clutterbuck

Carlson Pulock
Leddy Boychuk
Pelech Mayfield

That puts the team 500k over the cap and is missing some extra skaters. I don't expect the numbers for Nelson, Pulock, or Grubauer to be correct. Not sure if it's too little for Carlson as well.

I think Carlson gets closer to 8-8.5 AAV. 9aav if a team is desperate and goes hard.

I just don’t understand what the hell he’s trying to do. They’re not rebuilding, and they’re certainly not trying to win.

Maybe could get Vilardi and draft Kotkaniemi? Idk

The domi trade was a head scratcher as well as the Subban trade.

I feel like he just makes all of these trades in a vacuum without actually considering the ramifications that they have on the team. That Domi trade was bad. Subban trade was asinine.

Anybody else think this MAYBE could have to do with Tavares not being available being known throughout the league now?
It was either Lebrun or Custance last week that interviewed 4 league execs and they all said he’s not going anywhere. That seems to be the attitude of everyone around the league.

Also could mean LA isn’t signing Kovy

JT wanted to see action on the Isles part, and action has been done... I would think that even if it is not known to the league that JT is remaining, it can be inferred by hiring Lou and Trotz. Trotz isn't taking this job without JT.

Carlson is going to be too pricey in my opinion. NYI would have to pay a premium because they can’t offer an extra year.

WSH 8 x 8 = 64M total
NYI 7 x 9 = 63M total

Don’t think NYI wants to give him 9M per.

I think Carlson at 9M may be an overpayment but it is so hard to get elite dmen in the league and his cup run was probably somewhat inflated by his UFA status but he would make Leddy much better in the top pair.... Isles would have to hope Bellows and JHS could step in and make a forward expendable... too bad Seattle is not coming in this year, Ladd probably would accept a trade there to be close to home

It will be interesting to see if they make a bid for him with Trotz here. Ultimately I think he ends up in NJ.

The first round and second round picks are great trade ammo and given today's news before the ink is dry on JT's contract with the Islanders some combination of those picks will bring the Islanders a top goalie and/or defenseman.

It's not just Carlsson and Karlsson to muse over any longer. So many other doors just opened.

Yeah, we do focus on Carlson/Karlsson, but lots of D options are out there. Trouba, Hamilton and Faulk/Hanifin to mention a few. I'm kind of hoping that Lou can pull some magic with that new CAR owner maybe taking back Ladd in a deal for Hanifin or Faulk. Wishful thinking I know....
