He made some lousy plays ... multiple times he made bad decisions & lost the puck which led to Isles opportunities when he could have done something better. He's gotta play like a fourth liner. Simple, safe, straight ahead & minimize the fancy stuff.
Unfortunately only caught the final 17 minutes of the game. I guess he was bad in the first couple of periods?

and what a goal it was ... was that off his leg or his stick?
from the replays hard to tell but the way it deflected in I would say stick. Either way honestly don't care he went to the net and sometimes that is how you have to score against a team like the islanders.

Sam was flabbergasted that Gauthier actually scored on that chance. He didn’t even know what to say lol.

Ben Harpur deserves some credit for his play. He’s not good but he’s not actively hurting the team in the same way that Hajek is very prone to do often. This should really be curtains for Hajek here. A guy who should be in the AHL or a #8 defenseman in the NHL has stepped into the lineup and played more effectively than Hajek.

That forecheck on the game tying goal by Gauthier was a thing of beauty. He basically created that whole goal out of a nothing dump in by being hard on the puck and using his wheels to get in there. Credit to Gaut because he doesn’t make that play a couple years ago. He’s really improved his forechecking. He has to stay in the lineup at this point.

He will probably end up traded in whatever deal the Rangers make for a depth D near the deadline

"You've been doing the job for a while now, so it's nice to see you get the letter sewn on your jersey," Kreider said.

‘'if you ask the guys in the locker room, 100% of them will tell you that he's been our captain without actually wearing the "c" for the last couple of years. i'm incredibly happy for him to have this honor and to represent this team because of everything be does for us. he has broad shoulders and no matter the situation and context. he's himself as a person and how he leads. there's no ego to him off the ice or on the ice, and he represents the game, his teammates, and his opponents.'' - Kreider

Yes, I’m aware of the public facing comments.

I am not an insider in any way, but I’ll give you this. I have a best friend from college. His sibling married someone very close to Chris and the Kreider family. I was told Kreider was not happy he didn’t get the captaincy. A few degrees of separation for sure, but that’s what I heard.

Good to see him leading like he did tonight.
That's how much of a true captain Kreider is. Even if he wanted it, he saw the writing was on the wall that the staff was leaning Trouba (from the reports it seems for a lot of off ice reasons) so he stepped aside and has done nothing but sing his praises and cheerlead the decision. He's magnanimous time and time again in his praise for Trouba as captain and the decision itself. He's an amazing teammate and he's probably just as good of a leader without the C. Trouba might wear the C but I believe Kreider is the rock for this team and for the leadership group.

yeah I don't care either. His pass on Gauthier's goal was very nice.

Trouba actually looked pretty good tonight. I feel like the last few games he's slowly been improving.
the piles didn't create much against us but I still hate Troubas offensive game

Seems as if he makes the wrong play far too often. We also have the bar set extremely low right now.

He's making $8M. He's not our entire offense but he's a piece to it. He had 10 5v5 goals last year. His offensive game has been no where close to where it needs to be.

I still think we need a lot more from our defensemen. KAM is finally doing it, hopefully he keeps going because it will make a world of a difference. We need way more from Trouba and Lindgren offensively.. They don't have to be world beaters but something. Schneids shows flashes and promise. It's 2023. Defensemen play a large role in modern day offenses. That's why I like Chychrun. KAMs good play also coincides with our 'winning'.

Better defenders = moar winns

Happy with the win but playing four forwards over 21 mins to win a game in December seems ridiculous, three of them over 23 mins. Develop your players to be in a better position to have a full group contribute in the post season. I understand 6pp, but why can't this group have more contributors...

Goodrow, Gauthier, and Kakko all scored tonight and they have been getting more secondary scoring of late. They also have 4 days off and don't play again until the 27th. It was perfectly fine to give some guys extra minutes especially with 6 PP's.

I think it's perfectly fine to try to spread the minutes around especially when that power play goes one for six. To each their own

Kakko not even playing 13 mins is a joke

The dreams of getting miller locked up with term have died.

He’s going to push 40 points with almost no PP time.
yep been saying it since last season but for some reason we couldn't do it. Best part is the kid always seems to step up when it matters.

Seems like it never happened but early in the season Gauthier was actually waived. Good for the kid keeping his mouth shut, doing what he had to do and playing hard.

He was benched for a time because of a bad giveaway that lead to a goal. Not the end of the world that he got 13 minutes.

Again, I think it's a joke. We have certain other players that can make horrible giveaways during games and never get sat. Different standards for different players here. And it's not just with him. It's just frustrating because there's no need to have to play other forwards as much as we do and then sit some of these guys.

Panarin has 4 giveaways in the game and plays 24 mins

Kakko actually didn't even register 1 giveaway but plays 12 mins.
