Kreider doing Captain things on the bench...
He should be wearing the "C" and no one will convince me otherwise.
From Staple’s mailbag today in the Athletic:
How do the players feel about their captain? It doesn’t seem to be a particularly united team. — Chris R.
Now in fairness to Chris, this was from a couple of weeks back. You don’t want to pin all seven wins in this streak on Trouba’s outburst against the Hawks at MSG back on Dec. 4 but it certainly delivered the right message from the right guy.
When I’d heard (and wrote) last year that Trouba was really the only choice for captain, there was some skepticism from commenters who felt either that some others would be better choices or that Trouba’s albatross contract would get in the way of him wearing the C for many years.
Even the few of us who go into the locker room a lot don’t know much of what goes on or how guys fit in the leadership hierarchy. But a few players and staffers have said over my time covering the team that no one does the little things — check on fellow teammates, provide lines of communication to the coaches and front office about concerns or speak up — more than Trouba has.
Few players crave that sort of responsibility. Most love it when they have one or two or three guys who go to the coach with an issue or stand in front of reporters to answer for a crappy game or say the hard things that need to be said during a losing streak.
Trocheck has done a decent job of speaking up and being a leader in his first season. Panarin has taken some strides in that area. Kreider is a beloved teammate but doesn’t want the spotlight on him all the time. Zibanejad would likely have been the second choice for captain and his voice, though quiet, carries a long way in there.
But no one who’s been there the last few years says anyone other than Trouba is the true leader in the room. I go by what current and former teammates say. So other than his injury and some really ugly on-ice play this season at times, Trouba’s the guy. They all wanted it to be that way. (Emphasis mine)

Yeah that’s true, I didn’t want them getting penalized, I just thought then arguing what happened in these cases was particularly head scratching. Usually if a guy is whining about something borderline you can see their point but these were two blatant penalties 100% of the time and seeing two guys arguing so strongly against them I felt like I was in the bizarro world for a second or something, like I’m crazy and was missing something. If this were the NBA they would have gotten a tech, one thing I'm happy about the NHL is they don't make nearly as many "refs feelings were hurt" penalties like other sports.

Idk how Gallant can ever put Blais back in
Gauthier had two points in 8 mins of ice time. Blais doesn’t even have a point in all his mins this year
The consensus on the team, including Kreider, is that Trouba is the guy in the room for the C. And, Kreider doesn't want it - it's not his thing - he's not a spotlight guy. He'll take guys under his wing and help the 'yutes for sure but he's hoping nobody notices.
Trouba is the captain. They've gone 8-1 since he called them to the carpet and told them to wake the f*** up.
Gallant sucks. He won't allow Kaako back on the ice, again.
Panarin sucks.
That was a boring game.
On a side note, it may not mean much, but that was Trouba's least bad game of the season.
seems wrong somehowWe beat a team that matters. Is that even allowed?
Panarin causes 100 breakaways against per season?Kakko made a mistake that Artemi makes about 100 times a season. It’s nothing. KK is very responsible with the puck, we know that won’t become a habit.
Him icing this game for us was about as sweet as it gets.
and what a goal it was ... was that off his leg or his stick?and Barclay "the BUM" Goodrow a 3 point game and the biggest goal in the game IMO.
I am not an insider in any way, but I’ll give you this. I have a best friend from college. His sibling married someone very close to Chris and the Kreider family. I was told Kreider was not happy he didn’t get the captaincy. A few degrees of separation for sure, but that’s what I heard.
Good to see him leading like he did tonight.
He made some lousy plays ... multiple times he made bad decisions & lost the puck which led to Isles opportunities when he could have done something better. He's gotta play like a fourth liner. Simple, safe, straight ahead & minimize the fancy stuff.I know Brodz didn't have any points but man he made some plays in all three zones in that third that was impressive
