I have no problem with Matthews not throwing punches or breaking a hand on a foolish Hab. However, I will say, Matthews is still among my favorite players, but I sensed a bit of a shift in him since his rookie season. He went from being a young, ambitious, player who backchecked like a demon and showed great emotion to...
... just a couple of years later, hanging out with Justin Bieber, getting tats all over, growing an absurdly foolish-looking mustache and trying hard to push this "goofy" perception. I mean, come on. The hat, child's t-shirt, smiley face slippers, etc.? I think he's trying too hard to be a "character." Call me old school, but I saw this same type of transformation with players like Erik Karlsson, Max Domi, etc. They seemed to start focusing more on "looking outlandish" and portraying an image than they did mastering their craft.
I just hope the money and celebrity isn't getting to our kids, where they think everything is some big joke, like Ricky Williams and Cam Newton did.
I'm probably overthinking it though.
