Is this leafs team likeable?

  • We're expeting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
So, in a nutshell, you’re satisfied with watching the Leafs lose in the 1st round every year.

I only care about cup wins. If they won the first round and then lost to the Jets it would still be a disappointment.

Yes they are, it’s one of the more likeable teams in recent memory actually.

I think maybe this team would be more likeable if our greedy super stars really admit that they have a lot of work to do in improving their game in the playoffs and that they are over paid. One way of doing that is by returning the money they got from the leafs and accept payment of what Spezza got. That way they can prove that they are winners in the playoffs and and actually earn it. Talk is cheap. They need to show how hungry they are and that they did really earn the money. Its ridiculous how Spezza out played them and scored more points than them.

Lol, right, saying violence isn't necessary is "woke messaging" now? So everytime you hear something you don't like that it's woke messaging?

You people are so sensitive to change in the world. Violence is necessary for very select situations outside of sport (MMA and boxing are completely different obviously). In sport, I really don't care if it is ever continued. I'm one of the people who think fighting needs to go. A stupid pointless thing in hockey.
Once they remove fighting, there will be people who will call for the end of body contact and so it will go on and on until the sport is essentially ruined.
Just what happens when a certain group of people get their hands on power.

Since Sundin left, this hasn’t been a likeable team. The Kessel era, as much as I liked Kessel was not a team that was enjoyable.

The lack of success in the post season sucks, but this is a team that’s generally easy to cheer for. The players seem to get along, Matthews is one the most dynamic players we’ve had, Marner can be a great to watch with the puck. Campbell is a player easy to love. Nylander and Tavares are easy to cheer for. Spezza has been a delight and the list just goes on.

Who doesn’t love guys who phone it in which half efforts when the games get difficult to play?

I hated guys like Gilmour and Clarke. Tucker, Roberts...those were the guys I disliked. Scum, all of them. They’d literally leave parts of them on the ice trying to win. I just can’t respect that.

Not to mention they were dirty players. When someone is taking liberties with you or your team, checking you extra hard, you are supposed to just go wider around them and not do stupid things like initiate contact and battle for the loose puck.

I highly doubt hitting will be removed. Hitting should stay

And their faces were so ugly from being bruised and carved up...I mean they're not even qualified for Oil of Olay commercials...:sarcasm:

I really like this team. Not Wendel like, that was on a different level, but I really like them.

That's why I'm so sad they are not still playing.

they act like spoiled brats, talk like spoiled brats and play like spoiled brats and the whatever attitude is obvious.
Tons of skill and regular season fancy moves and fancy goals and look at me moments that all disappear once hard work and dedication is needed.
These guys are super easy to dislike and I hate I have to say that about my team.

I still think about AM's comments during locker cleanout when asked about keeping the core together. "Yeah you guys have fun with that"
Came off as we're untouchable to me

I think it's more he's annoyed he's constantly being asked about that. Since Tavares signed, and even before then every off season has been about how do we keep the core together. Which RFA will jump ship etc. Every summer it's drama about the cap, his job isn't to worry about the cap.

If he did his freaking job in the payoffs nobody would be asking him about that

You severely underestimate the desire and tenacity of a certain group of people who wish to vilify all forms of (what they consider) toxic masculinity. Hitting is violence and ergo, should not be allowed - that way it would lower the necessary standards and allow females to more readily participate in a professional league, which will be mandated as being necessary to field a certain percentage of female players.

I would have thought what I just typed was crazy 20 years ago as well. I don't anymore.

Fighting is pretty much already gone and body contact is being aggressively phased out as we speak. Scheifele blew up Evans and received 8 games and has been publicly shamed by 90% of the hockey community. Now, this whole "anti-rivalry" agenda is taking the neutering to a whole new, pathetic level -- Toronto visually rooting for the Habs? The Vancouver Canucks official team twitter account congratulating an Edmonton Oiler for pretty much blasting their team to smithereenes? It's a complete joke.

it will go on and on until the sport is essentially ruined.

Let's be honest, our standards have dropped significantly. The game is already a shell of itself.

I seriously hope a mandatory roster spot is not made for a female to play in the NHL. Her skills should dictate their entry and they can barely hold their own against teenagers. A mandatory spot should never happen. Im all for equality for women but forcing them into the league because they want to be paid when they are clearly not as good or as entertaining as NHL players is ludicrous.

The goal of these groups is to remove the meritocracy.

I love the Leafs.
If I was using a scale of 1-10, I usually enjoy watching them at around a 9.5.... until this season. This group is different, and in a bad way.
We are soft as butter.
Our coach is an arrogant prick.
Our stars are soft, entitled and they seem extremely selfish (not Tavares or Reilly).
Our gm disregards what makes teams successful in the playoffs and has no clue how to negotiate a contract.
The team always seems scared when the chips are down and never stand up for each other.
I know people will tell me “if you don’t like it, stop watching” but I don’t want to stop. I have loved the Leafs my entire life. I just want a more likeable team. This team is getting harder and harder to cheer for.
What change can be made before Christmas to change the character of this team?
Will firing Babcock help?
Will trading Marner net is what we need?
Do we ride this out knowing this team doesn’t have a heartbeat?
How long until fans start booing this team off the ice?

I think you answered your own question.

After the loss to Columbus, my "passion" for the Leafs waned ... still enjoy watching them but I don't get hung up on every win or loss. they are like that girlfriend who keeps cheating, when she gets caught she says, "I'm so sorry, I will never do it again." and she does it again, if you forgive her , at a certain point you gotta admit what she is and take ownership of your relationship.... same thing with the Leafs at some point you gotta accept the Leafs for what they are, a 'ho that will break your heart if you give them the chance, and take ownership of the relationship.
