I think it was the way dubas was walked out the door that exposed the true issues within the organization.
It certainly exposed his issues. He aired stuff that didnt need to be aired and showed his true colors which clearly caught Shanny off guard. Not saying Shanny handled what transpired much better but when your employee jerks you around while going above you to your boss there isnt much Shanny can do at that point....and here we are. I do find it funny how the Dubasites feel like Kyle would have made all kinds of great signings and trades today if he were still here as though he wasnt the architect of the shit show that is happening now. If Treliving can pull a rabbit out of his hat and build something out of this chaotic puzzle I will be impressed.

-You think Shanny signed Keefe?
- You think Shanny purged this team of it's toughness Dubas first year?
-You think it was Shanny the former NHL powerforward who tried to turn the Leafs into the 80s oilers?
- Shanny was the one said this team lacks killer instinct.

Etc
Dont kid yourself, those oilers in the 80's were tough as nails

I think the players view how Shanahan dealt with Dubas as not great. It’s pretty clear that situation has had an effect. Every player who’s come as a rental had nothing but good things to say about Kyle. Something has been very off since the firing. I think regardless of who’s at fault it was a bad stain on the organization.
Speculative.....and by all accounts Treliving is well liked as well.

Pretty sure JT silently sits at his stall and stares blankly into nothingness until it's game time.
Y'know the thing about Tavares, he's got lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes.

$11M per year is a bonus

Signing Tavares wasn’t the problem. It was signing Marner and Matthews to ridiculous contracts when they were restricted and had little in the way of bargaining heft.
For me it was both those things

Can you remind me when power-play points stopped counting for as much as even strength points on the scoreboard? When did they change those rules?
I have heard that phrase before.....
yeah

the shit show of a 110-115 point team with its prime aged core locked in and some short term cap flexibility? JFC it’s insane in here.

Tax differences will always exist and can only be addressed by the CBA. Covid policies kept, what, three guys from not coming here the Leafs may have been interested in?
Who knows man, one thing for certain is covid policies are having a negative affect in terms of Canadian teams keeping/attracting free agents.

That was three years ago are you people still complaining about things you weren’t allowed to do like three years ago
Only a fool would disregard the fact covid policies have a negative affect in attracting players to Canada.

If you havent noticed the Leafs are in a bit of turmoil at the moment ....because of Dubas. We know that Shanny didnt want to blow it up as he wanted Dubas back so its not a surprise that isnt happening, but there was a lot to do this summer with the contracts, etensions and ufa's etc and Dubas's little stunt cost us some valuable time to work on those things. Treliving stepped on to a fast moving train and is still figuring it out. Ill give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise and that means Ill give him more than 6 hrs before committing to an opinion on his gm ing.

As if any player cares about that.
never understood bringing politics or religion into a hockey blog

That’s such a cop out, he’s been on the job for a month. Everyone knew what the pressure points were and the dates they’d begin to take effect. There really isn’t THAT much to do. Just look at his predecessor. Kyles running GM and pres of hockey ops and had a much better GM week than tre.
Point is shanny canned Kyle because he didn’t want to relinquish power because he knew Kyle was sick of the results and knew change needed to be made.
This is wholly shannys bed to lie in.

Yup, and him hiring Treliving is the beginning of the end. No players want to come to Toronto now. Treliving is a loser.
If this is serious...(is it?)...then.....im like what the flying fk is going on in here with these kinds of takes.

ROR asked to be traded to Toronto, was offered a similar contract by us as what he took in Nashville, and ultimately decided to leave the team he requested a trade to <6 months ago, to go to a rebuilding team for the same amount of $$.

Who knows what it is that he saw that he didn't like, but there was certainly something. Rumours around locker clean out day were that the exit interviews with players were pretty firey, and now all our rental players have left, as has every other UFA except Kampf.

Where there's smoke....

one team wins the whole thing. Not everything is cut and dry, black and white.

sounds like a guy who couldn't hack it in a market like Toronto, Nashville is the perfect spot for a guy who has his eyes on a post hockey career in the music biz. ROR took the no state income tax and anonymity and ran.

Personally I think Ryan only came here to fulfill a dream for his dad. His dad used to work for the leafs and is a huge leafs fan. Ryan mentioned it a lot of times how much him being a leaf meant to his parents.

I think he requested to be traded there so they could experience that once and then he’d leave. Don’t think it was meant to be a long term stay at all.

Seems like we're not alone with this mindset.

Unless this is you! 😉😉😉

this checks out too, hes always seem to prefer less important markets and is probably comfortable blending in vs. knowing everyone knows you. It takes a special type of person to crave that, luckily we have drafted 3 of those types and they're all star players.

Except that this core has not even come close to being that said "one team"

Covid policies have a lasting affect on for Canadian teams. To claim otherwise is absurd. Consider yourself enlightened.

We lose to the team that loses to the team that wins the cup.

Super elite!
when it happens every time theres a pattern to that. They are close, well they WERE close before this hack came in and started the butcher job Shanny demanded.
