That’s a cap problem.
I am talking about catering to them and worry too much about them. I know this is the case and it is just an example, but from comments this off season it seemed like the big four have their own private jet for the Leafs while the rest of the team fly on economy.

Signing Tavares wasn’t the problem. It was signing Marner and Matthews to ridiculous contracts when they were restricted and had little in the way of bargaining heft.

Then we fired the GM after just offering him an extension. We look like a joke, so it's not a surprise that we're not seen as a hot destination

He was given an offersheet officially by one team that they swiftly declined. Probably was Montreal coming off the <9 offersheet to Aho. The second one never happened. The team reportedly interested in him said they wouldn't offersheet him without it being a long term contract. Dubas didn't get the 7-8 years either.

He just had a ppg season with 30+ goals at 2C. He’s overpaid, but no where close to the “worst” contract in the league
