Depends how your want to answer.

Is the question is Sanheim one of top 64 d-men in the NHL? Yes
Can you play Sanheim with a rhd horse and Sanheim play well? Yes I am sure you can pair Sanheim with Drew Doughty and make a fantastic top pair.
Can you win a cup with Sanheim as your 1? No
Can you win a cup with Sanheim as your 2? Better be a really good stud 1d guy.
Can a team win a cup with Sanheim and Provorov as your top 2 d men? No

He played with Myers, who was said to have 1D potential after that first year, so…
why you need to shit on Morin and Myers all the time? Is it unthinkable to hope they develop in another franchise (or without injuries) as solid top 6 dman? They showed good things early in their careers! But you mentioned them like they was Mandog, Haag or Ryan Parent! Dont understand your hate for this 2 players. Most of the time i´am with you on your evaluation. But the hate for this 2 is a bit over in my eyes.

I don't hate either player. It's just funny how people constantly go way overboard when it comes to hyping up weaker players while not appreciating the ones who are actually good.

but Morin and Myers havent got the usual overappreciation here. at least in my eyes. A few members thought really high about them. But not the usual t.r.o.l.l.s. It iritates me a bit. But no problem go on ;D

Myers did after that first year. People said he could be a 1D, wanted him on the top PP, and so on. I remember the term “unicorn” being used quite a bit.

yeah i liked him also a lot! And i dont think its wrong to have hopes for prospects. It can grow stupid or be unrealistic as hell. But to have expectations about prospects is all you can have. You dont know how they develop. So you can only hope. I still think Myers can be a top 6 dman when he would have developed by others than the flyers. And Morin without injuries would also be a good NHL player. Maybe just a 6th dman. But nevertheless better than Seeler, Haag or Yandle!

Have had the same feeling with Stolarz. Wasnt that wrong i guess!

But again, like I said, it’s about overhyping them while simultaneously underrating guys like Sanheim.

There’s nothing wrong with being hopeful. That’s not what I’m talking about though. I’m talking about biases.

This sums it up nicely, I think. As we saw again last night, Sanheim is a tick below top pairing.

You can really tell how much certain posters dislike Sanheim by how he’ll play great for weeks and then the second he makes one bad mistake they get all excited, jump on it, and claim it proves he’s not that good because they know it doesn’t happen often.

A lot of people really embarrassed themselves in that GDT last night when he screwed up. A great example of people being shortsighted and not seeing the big picture. I’ll take one mistake like that in exchange for weeks and weeks of top level play driving, indisputable net positive impact, and carrying this entire d core on his back every day of the week.

we are at a point i dont give a f*** in case of how players perform in this games. How should young players be the best players every day, when anyone in this franchise sucks and also get the praise on top of that. Yandle can do what he want, Provorov can do what he want, Jones can do what he want, Thompson, Risto and all the other can do what they want. Yet if a young player has a bad game, he is benched or blamed in the media. This season ist lost!

I will look close at Frost, Sanheim, Hart et al when we have a good coach, a good strategy and a team who is able to play hockey!

This will never come in the next 2 - 3 years. So iam waiting to see them traded and see them blossom with another franchise! Like Ghost has done it. Like Voracek to an extend is doing it!

Problem is Sanheim - Ellis doesn't make sense, two puck moving offensive defensemen together, which both makes bad matchups against top lines and robs other pairings of a puck mover.
Provorov - Ellis
Sanheim - Risto (or other RHD who is physical and will defer to Sanheim on offense)
York - Zamula

It makes more sense than Sanheim-Risto, which is a puck-moving dman and a guy who doesn't defend or move the puck well.

Something tells me you can indeed have two guys who move the puck together, and this devotion to archaic role stereotypes is pointless.

Not even close. 2015 and 2017 first round "misses" were worse.

Sanheim might be the best player they've drafted since Coots. If that's his "biggest blunder" ...:dunno:

Drafting Patrick over Makar (without hindsight) isn't anywhere near as big a blunder as paying a first (14th overall) and 2nd (as well as an additional 'asset'), while simultaneously giving up a 2nd, and another asset, to make room for a UFA rental in Ristolainen.

So if people want to dunk on Hextall for the hindsight factor, I REALLY hope they're ready to come back here in a few years and talk about how Fletcher absolutely bungled this draft by not drafting Player X, taken at 14th overall or later, and opting for a teerible defensemen in Risto instead.

If Travis Sanheim is the best player your franchise has drafted in a decade, that's a massive problem in and of itself.

It's bad enough if he's the best player your draft-focused GM selected in a five-year period that included overall picks: 2, 7, 14, 17, 19, 22, 24, 27, 35, 36, 48, 48, 50, 52.

Nonetheless, the Sanheim blunder wouldn't be Sanheim himself.

The Sanheim blunder would be overruling your scouts to take Sanheim over their Pasternak recommendation.
