Is Rasmus Dahlin an idiot?

He takes one bad penalty and the puck hops on him in a game where he played fine and scored the game tying goal, and that warrants a dunk on Dahlin thread?

A lot of nights for the past few years he’s the only reason the Sabres are even in the game. Maybe he’s gotten some bad habits due to that.

Looks to me like Dahlin takes about twice as many minor penalties as Quinn Hughes

Perhaps, if he were on a successful team, he would be considered a bit of a pest

Generational? Far from it, but Dahlin is a star in the NHL and someone who may never live up to his draft billing but is a player that all 32 NHL teams would love to have on their team.

Will be interesting to watch the Sabres this year and if they fall out of the playofff hunt what will they do. Would Dahlin who I believe is behind Power on the team be moved in a blockbuster? Who knows, but if they are out of the playoffs, they have to change their roster, right???

Saw the third period of the Habs-Sabres today. I am high on the Sabres and after a bad start they appear to be turning things around. Dahlin scored in the third to put them ahead, if I remember correctly, but then took a completely selfish, completely unnecessary, completely ill-timed elbowing penalty which resulted in Montreal going ahead. Then with the extra attacker out he tried to corral the puck at the blue line and instead missed it completely-by a foot......I couldn't believe what I was seeing.....it was a weak backhanded swipe that had him turn away from the puck and the 2 Canadiens went right past him, one with the puck and one without to salt the game away. Dahlin tried to chase them but fell down.

For those who watch Dahlin play regularly, what the hell was that and what kind of captain with at least a quarter of a brain takes a penalty like that?

Please....discuss.

Especially in Dahlin's direction, so Dahlin is fixing Sabres great again.

Is saying "please discuss..." just another way of saying please agree with me lol?

English is not my first language, there are difficulties speaking English, you get the point, we Finn who live in Sweden often speak little Finnish and a lot Swedish and little English for USA or England estimate Finn.

The NHL meant for Finns, other Finns liked England.

Man, you think of the potential there.
I'd love to have him slide in beside someone like Chris Tanev, Jaccob Slavin, Devon Toews or that type. I think he'd just explode in terms of what people think of him.

I think he should be considered somewhat of a pest. Counting this season and the last he's drawn 36 penalties and taken 34.

He's just taken a few too many in critical moments of the game, but in general his penalties balances out.

I absolutely disagree with those who say he's some kind of disaster. He's a high end #1 and could be even more dominant if he got rid of those frustrating unnecessary penalties late in the game.

The Sabres and Dahlin are made for each other. Neither care about actually winning games.

I don’t think that’s literally true, but there is that moment where you have to wonder about the effects of losing so much as a young player. People are creatures of habit, and bad habits can creep up quietly on players who are used to the results not mattering.

You saying your a Finn and starting a thread bashing Dahlin is just as suspect.

He’s a bright spot on a bad team who tries to do too much carrying the team and suffers because of it

Trade him to a competent franchise and he’ll surprisingly look wonderful

He’s trying to do too much and take more than he can on his shoulder when the rest of the team cannot. I think it’s a function of the talent and system around him. He can win a Norris in another situation.

Didn’t he also fought a teammate earlier? I think he completely misunderstood what being a captain is about. He’s going about it the wrong way it seems like

Coach Lindy Ruff said this today on WGR550 when asked about Dahlin's ill timed penalties:

"It's something that he's going to have to get over. It's repeated now, it's something in his DNA. Part of the DNA is his emotion is running really high. Part of that DNA was wiring that slap shot on the power play that says we're going to make sure we get into this game. At the same time that type of DNA is hurting him. It's something that mentally he has to get past. We have to help him get past that. As the captain of the team you're the leader. The guy who sets the tone. So it's something in Dahls case that he knows he has to be better. He knows he can't take that situation.

Every player has a trigger. Can you control that trigger whether it's an emotional trigger, physical, at a key moment? We have to be able to conquer those hard moments. That is a moment that he has to let go. He's going to have to learn to let go. He hasn't been able to do it yet....."

Also said this after a follow-up question:

"Learn to control. Learn to move on"

Chill. I too can't believe how lucky we are to have Hughes but we don't need to be smug and insert it unnecessarily into unrelated threads.

Dahlin' been completely unsupported by veterans or useful systems, so it's possible he's adopted some terrible habits.

But he's still a superlatively skilled player. Either in Buffalo, or if they stupidly trade him elsewhere, he will be a key part of some long playoff runs eventually.
8 posts for a Canuck fan to mention Hughes in a defenseman thread that had nothing to do with him nor his team. A new record!!!!

its amazing and sad how easily that sums everything up.

I still think Ty Smith is going to be the best of the bunch.:naughty:
Dahlin played some unreal hockey 2 years ago and last year ( And where did that get them ) I think he should get the benefit of the doubt a little bit for a rough start all while recovering from an injury, although I'm not a buffalo fan so I can't really comment.

Surely Dahlin is the least of their worries
