Kohli is passing him imo as all time player for India

Though for me the GOAT is Bradman (did play ancient era but his dominance level to peers is better than Gretzkys)

I'm from Pakistan but watching Kohli is always must watch

Sachin was similar though I was lot younger back when he played

Bruh not the same comparison. Heck even Gretzky or Bradman won't compare to Sachin IMO

Gretzy is the GOAT but he had really great supporting cast with him.
Bradman was great but he also had a great supporting cast with him. Don was the GOAT of his era for sure. Freakin' Aussies dominated that sport for so long. Bradman's batting average will never be broken just like Gretzky's points/assits. Ovi is gonna get there I think for the goals.

Sachin was the "only" dude who was the thorn in opposition's side, once he was out India would fold like cheap tent. You being from Pak would know that especially and Imran/Wasim/Waqar and then later Wasim/Waqar/Shoaib would go through that India batting line up like a hot knife on butter

Plus the pressure of Billion people is crazy. He had (not sure if he still does) God like status in India when he was playing. I haven't seen such craze for any sporting personality in any sport. And with all that pressure including having cops stationed outside his house with angry mob he kept delivering with his bat. That is something I just cannot fathom.

P.S. Yes I am extremely biased, because I am a HUGE Sachin Fanboy

2nd most final MVPs (not counting Bill Russell hed have a lot of those if they existed back when he played), think he's 3rd or 4th for most MVPs,

Highest scorer (longevity for sure here but super impressive still)
All NBA teams (longevity + dominance) with only MJ likely capable of being all NBA player for 16-17 straight years

10 final appearances is impressive even though eastern conference was quite weak

He's got a case for the GOAT but it is tough for him because MJ played like 13 years and accomplished so much

MJ in this era has greater health and longevity so higher individual numbers to but likely not 6 rings.

Tough, I have Mj 1 and LeBron a but back at 2.

LeBron though shattered expectations. No one actually thought he'd end this great all time in 03. Everyone thought it was hype

MJ is overrated, but let's be reality, when MJ goes back and watches his daddy Isiah and the rest of the bad boys teach him the hard knocks (literally), he can at least say that he played through it and got his shot when they got old, Lebron would cramp up just watching lol

Don't be a basketball reference bot, you can't compare awards and stats across eras, it's meaningless, the contexts were simply different.

Best way to compare is to see what maybe a player who played against one and trained with the other had to say, Hakeem who at his zenith was even better than Jordan doesn't think it's close and neither do I:

Messi. People who dont watch football have no real idea of how good this guy is. A f***ing magician.

Also.. Being the absolute GOAT in BY FAR the most popular sport on earth garners extra points.

I don't watch enough of other sports, but I don't think McDavid would be #1 out of all of them.

He would have to be like 30+ points better than other players

he's not a bad hockey player though

He was already 35+ points better than everyone except Draisaitl in a 56 game season. This year he could very well do the same.

Did you see his assist today for the 3rd goal? At 35 he was pulling out all the magic. I was out of my seat. So glad I skipped work to watch the game today

Ohtani is insane but he's neither the best pitcher nor best hitter so I wouldn't put his overall impact at the same level.
Seems like the equivalent to McDavid playing goalie and forward.

2.25 GAA and 40 goals. Difficult to compare the impact truly. I rarely watch baseball anymore but the impact in two extreme facets of a professional sport is impressive.

Sewag, Laxman, Dravid and even Dhoni take exception to this.
That mid-late 00's Indian lineup could bat!

Calling Crosby a tier below is ridiculous. McDavid's career average works out to be 120 points per 82 games, Crosby at the same games played was 115.

The big difference most people seem to turn a blind eye to when it comes to comparing their stats is that Crosby had his offensive peak really early on.

McDavid just keeps producing more and more. What he has done since the start of 2018 is simply on another level offensively. In his last 230 season games, he's had 384 points. That's +154 points over point per game in almost 3 seasons worth. Including tonight's game, he's averaging 137 points per 82 games over those last 230 games.

He paces much higher in goals, pacing a bit more in assists (has been assist-per-game since the start of 2018, while Crosby never had anything close-yesiknowtheinjuries-) and pacing much higher in points.

Crosby is definitely much more rounded, but McDavid is ahead of him offensively. It's a no contest for offense.

Absolutely not.

Besides, worldwide wise, ice hockey is a marginal sport.
Sure i love it and its big for me but compared to the big ones,...
For example, go outside Europe and NA, know one will know who Connor McDavid even is.
- go ask anyone who Cristiano Ronaldo is and everyone will know

Then again this wasn't about that, but yeah, i dont think he is the greatest athlete since and from "big 4"

Yes

The impact that McDavid has is ridiculous. if McDavid was scoring at a higher clip relative to his peers evenstrength that I would have said that McDavis is probably even more impactful than Lebron or heck even Jordan b/c in basket ball one player can dominate; in hockey its not easy for one player to dominate
What are you talking about? McDavid has been demolishing his peers at ES scoring since he broke into the league.

Hes 56 points ahead of second place since his rookie season. He's 100 points ahead of Crosby in this time period.

He has like double the ES points of the guys at 30ish over this time period.

He's lapping the field.

McDavid doesn't touch Brady, absolutely not.

I think McDavid and Trout are similar, both are clearly the best player of their generation and they'll be at the top of all time if they maintain their levels for the rest of their careers. The difference between McDavid/Trout and Brady is that Brady has established himself as the best of all time, while McDavid/Trout have not.

Trout is an absolutely insane talent if anyone thinks I'm diminishing McDavid by comparing him to Trout. Judge just had a historic year last year where he had 10.6 wins above replacement in 157 games. Trout's career average for wins above replacement per 162 games is 9.5.

The top 5 I wasn't aware of

Super impressive and probably makes him worthy of being on that listing of guys to challenge for GOAT

The only problem I don't know who baseballs GOAT is haha

I thought it was baby Ruth or Barry Bonds but got told neither is the GOAT.

Trout is up there for sure
One problem with baseball is that a bunch of guys set a bunch of crazy records while being juiced to the gills, so the MLB's record books are a little...messy

Well that's just a dumb take
not really Brady has a lot of success but doesn't necessarily have that great of a per game stats compared to a lot of other top QBs every other top player in other sports are usually the ones leading in just about every stat possible while guys like Brees were carrying their team harder than Brady most of the time.

What Ohtani has done is pretty special. You would have to more clearly define "greatest athlete" though to be honest.

From my perspective, fair or not in team sports, championships speak volumes about a player. The best athletes don't just perform, they lead and domimate the sport. This means winning championships.

Get back to me when tneir careers are.over, as much as I don't admire Lebron, from your year criteria, he is deserving (though Brady is the GOAT since 2000). It's much easier in bball though due to the nature of the starting five having so much more influence. NHL requires four effective lines and a goalie since they can't play 40 minutes if they needed to.

I don’t really watch soccer but this had me hooked. That looks to me like the best athlete ever.
