I think I’d have McDavid above him just based on pure dominance, but I’d put Mahomes in the conversation just based on team dominance and team / personal hardware.

If he sustains the way he’s been playing for about two years now I have no problem saying he’s hands down the best I’ve seen since Lemieux. He’s the only player who’s ever had a chance of changing the big 4 to the big 5

and declining more day by day.

if McD can continue this into his 30s he's definitely gonna surpass Crosby, the only argument will be cups.

McDavid at 29 could just join a super team and win a couple of cups if he wants

He's not going to fall off until he calls it quits.

His regular season dominance by then will be so strong that him leaving to win a cup or two won't hurt his legacy

This is assuming the Oilers can't figure out how to win

Messi is further ahead since he's at the tail end of his career

McDavid is on a very similar track.

5 rosses + 4 lindsays + 3 harts by 26 is absurd

Messi was neck and neck with CR7 until 2019 or 2020. He pulled ahead now but it was very close

McDavid when he's 35 likely is challenging Gretzky for all time GOAT like Messi is now to Pele

Don't think Messi is comparable IMO. Soccer is a sport where size/strength matters less skills/focus/endurance matters more.

Messi doesnt need to be 6 foot tall, have massive wing span etc...

Btw... if Messi had a Draisaitl on his team, Messi would have kicked some serious butt. CR7 is a goal scorer but he doesn't have many assists while Messi is a goal scorer and makes crazy assists. There is a reason CR7 is nicknamed "Penaldo"

;)

P.S. yes there is bias, I am a messi fan LOL

Don't forget that hockey is a tiny winy sport for the spoiled rich in the arctic circle. To even mention McDavid in the same breath as Messi or Ronaldo or tiger woods is laughable. 260 000 000 play soccer in the world. McDavid and his talent would have him playing in some second or third league in soccer.. Everyone can afford a football.

He'll get his 3rd by this year. Think he takes another 3 after that along with 4 more rosses

Ross is a major trophy though.

8-9 rosses + 6 harts + 7 lindsays +1-2 Richard's and that's #2 all time
Trout is already tied for second most MVPs and he will win another unless Ohtani keeps it up.

The only player in head of Trout is a steroid user.

Aside from Trout’s 3 MVPs, he came top 5 an additional 6 times.

There’s more stats in baseball but Trout has led in practically everything his entire career. Similar to McDavid, however I’d put McDavid in a class of Crosby, while Trout is pretty much a lock for top 5 player ever.

Art Ross is a counting stat award. How many Harts do you realistically see McDavid getting?

Aside from Trout’s 3 MVPs, he came top 5 an additional 6 times.
The top 5 I wasn't aware of

Super impressive and probably makes him worthy of being on that listing of guys to challenge for GOAT

The only problem I don't know who baseballs GOAT is haha

I thought it was baby Ruth or Barry Bonds but got told neither is the GOAT.

Trout is up there for sure

He wasn't including soccer, and I'm not sure Basketball is anymore of a global sport than hockey. I would agree McDavid is likely the most dominant since LeBron although a case could be made for Curry, Trout, maybe Giannis A. or Luka Doncic in a few years if they keep it up.

That's fair

I'm a CR7 fan but don't have an issue taking Messi ahead

I do think CR7 is top 5 all-time though but he's behind Messi

From the big 4 NA sports is 97 the greatest player drafted since 03 when LBJ was taken?

LBJ will end his career either the GOAT or 2nd best and he's in a tier with himself and MJ

I don't think anyone that great has come in the NFL and MLB

McDavid is looking like he'll be in a tier with 99 and 66 only

Any names that have dominated their sports as heavily as McDavid is doing this era?

Playoff success eludes but that's mostly team driven as his last year run was a top 10 run all-time.

Lebron is not close to being the GOAT lol.. and he might even be the 2nd best but the gap is just too big MJ just too good

Honestly was just going through major sports

I think if you add in Football and Cricket (huge sports in Africa/Europe/SA and Asia)

McDavid is one of the 4.5 guys to challenge for GOAT in the sport

LeBron
McDavid
Messi
Cr7 (he did challenge but now isn't there got old and couldn't keep it up. Still my favourite tho)
Virat Kohli

He's in a rare group of athletes ever

There is no name bigger in Cricket than.... "Sachin Tendulkar" Period!

He's easily #2 and I say this as a man who prayed on his downfall for a decade lool

You can have him #1 if you value longevity > Peak/Prime

I got MJ 1, but lebron a bit behind at 2 and that's not changing now

But LBJ > MJ isn't a defenseless stance

He's the only guy whose right there with 23

Kohli is passing him imo as all time player for India

Though for me the GOAT is Bradman (did play ancient era but his dominance level to peers is better than Gretzkys)

I'm from Pakistan but watching Kohli is always must watch

Sachin was similar though I was lot younger back when he played
He's kind of not bad.

Too bad more sports fans don't know him though.
That's on the NHL for doing jack shit to expand the sport globally

I don't get how people don't love hockey.

Such a fast paced and exciting game most of the time. Especially now when scoring is high.

It, kinda is a defenseless statement., there nothing wrong with Lebron but there just no real argument to take him to put him above Jordan... he is closer to Kareem than he is to Jordan

2nd most final MVPs (not counting Bill Russell hed have a lot of those if they existed back when he played), think he's 3rd or 4th for most MVPs,

Highest scorer (longevity for sure here but super impressive still)
All NBA teams (longevity + dominance) with only MJ likely capable of being all NBA player for 16-17 straight years

10 final appearances is impressive even though eastern conference was quite weak

He's got a case for the GOAT but it is tough for him because MJ played like 13 years and accomplished so much

MJ in this era has greater health and longevity so higher individual numbers to but likely not 6 rings.

Tough, I have Mj 1 and LeBron a but back at 2.

LeBron though shattered expectations. No one actually thought he'd end this great all time in 03. Everyone thought it was hype

There's no argument for McDavid over Gretzky. If McDavid wins the Hart and Ross this year

After 8 years
Gretzky
7 Art Ross (+1 first place tie)
8 Harts
Conn Smythe
3 Cups
4x leading playoffs in scoring

McDavid
5 Art Ross (+2 2nd place)
3 Hart
1x leading playoffs in scoring
