Is Kirby Dach ready to be the #1 centre next season?

Kirby is a superior skater to Creighton....Creighton was just big and lumbering out there.....Dach has better vision....he may not become what people expect from a #3 overall, but everyone will want Kirby Dach on their team when its all said and done.
Kirby needs to hit the weights and keep his head up.He takes way too many big hits.

Yeah, with how terrible he is at faceoffs, if he doesn't start improving he's going to end up a winger.
A guy like Barzal hovers around ~40%. I would consider him a centre personally. Unless Dach consistently stays below 35% for his career I don't think they'll worry about his face off numbers too much.

If Dach is on a line which is composed of players expected to be competent in all 3 zones, or at least competent in the backend, then he could get away with a lower FO%. If Dach is supposed to be on a line that is 100% driving the team offense and his wingers (and possibly D-men) are not good at defense or getting the puck back into possession then his current FO% is worrysome since they'd be chasing the puck more often than driving posession.

Barzal might not be a good comparison to Dach in this case. Dach may have had some setbacks but Barzal's O numbers are on a completely different level. Maybe Dach breaks out and maybe he doesn't; I hope he does though. I do think if Dach is supposed to be the #1C next season per the thread title, then he's got to do better than Sub-40% at the dot. As it stands right now the 'hawks would be better served to have Strome or Toews come in to win the draw and then cycle them out like they did when we had Yanic Perrault on the roster.

20 years old and so much nonsense being spewed. Get a hobby like reading a book or smashing yourself in the headwith heavy objects

Yeah, I think he’s a player that’s had some setbacks with the wrist injury (which takes time to come back fully from) and could be 23/24 when he finally starts to hit his ceiling. It could end up saving us money in the long run if we sign him long term before he hits his ceiling.

I'm sure many will not agree but I do. Dach is a target much of the time and needs to toughen up or it will get worse as he becomes more of a threat.

said it in his rookie season, early on he was taking alot of big hits and that is and was concerning to me cause as you say he is a target for opponents.

To me if he hits the weight room and gets stronger that will only help his game.

I think he just plays recklessly more than lures people to target him. He in a troubling way has no fear to a bad extent. Hence the trying to deke 1 on 3 or crashing into the boards hard after a play.

it's that too me as well as the putting himself in spots to get lit up.

Blackhawks, once upon a time had another player of that ilk. His name was Jeremy Roenick who was always a going concern because of his reckless style. Dach needs to play more controlled, be less vulnerable.

Ah Jeremy Roenick.....how exciting was he when he joined Hawks.

Dach has potential but has not shown much. I am worried but that's because so much is riding on the boy.

If he is an average 2nd line or 3rd line centre....we are stuck in mediocrity.

If he becomes a bonafide 1st ....then with the Cat and Jones, that is a decent start to rebuild.

Can you really be an NHL center on a first or second like winning less than 40 at the dot?

Agree and won't/don't understand how a center doesn't understand his opponent better as well. Lined up against a good FO man? You're not going to win your share, just don't let him win his share. Take the draw not to lose, make it a 50/50 puck.

With all of the systems being taught these days and how they devlop young kids, very few learn how to think the game. It is quite enjoyable to watch those that do think the game.

One of several reasons why Steve Larmer is just about my favorite Hawk of all time.

You can certainly tell that Dach plays strictly on instinct and his natural instinct is to look for the pass. You don't want to take away his creativity but the dangling and east/west stuff that he got away with in his amateur days will seldom work in the NHL. A north/south approach needs to be drilled into his head by the coaching staff until that replaces his instinct.
I also agree about face-offs. There is no excuse to lose draw after draw cleanly like he does. His wingers have little chance for support when that occurs on a regular basis.

Creighton didn’t have to be a good skater back then. What he did do, he did do well.

Comparing Dach to Creighton isn’t a knock, Creighton in his time on the Hawks was effective. He was a second line talent.

Your just not drafting Adam Creighton third overall in a stacked draft, and if you are, you shouldn’t be drafting players

Funny tgat Colton Dach who wexalk thought was a LW is being used at C in Kelowna... He is over 55% on draws ....Also he is generating lots of shots on goal to go with 5g 5a in just 9GP.. Loves to shoot whereas Kirby always seems to pass up shotsctobtry for helpers..butvhisxwibgers not finishing.

Kirbybis more advanced defensively tgan Colton.. butvif Colton improves with tge he might turn out the better player !

Do notvkniwcwhyvKurbyvstinks so much in draws...Cannot have that as a 1C.

BTW ...Jaylen Lyupen of Edmonton (WHL) is even better than Colton Dach on draws..Hecisxat a 59% clip...

If faceoff wins are a key asset of goid Centers then maybe we have 2 Center solutions coning down the pike that we never exoected woukdccenter but be wingers because tgeycare drafted as winger prospects.

Something to keep in mind as we plan for can inevitable exit by Toews...

Yes, brothers Dach share one thing it seems, good size. That's it when it comes to hockey. I look forward to seeing how the younger Dach develops. I liked what I saw in pre-season.

What is Yanic Perreault doing these days?

Dach has really really disappointed this season, in my opinion.

He can't score. & at the end of the day you can do a lot of things right, but if you aren't putting the puck in the net or helping it, then its not really worth anything.

If you want the other side of the coin, look at Sean Couturier's development:
