Is Kirby Dach ready to be the #1 centre next season?

As to the question posed by the OP... my response is:
In a word, no. Dach has good promise but he has a lot to learn yet. Expecting him to be Hawks #1 center and effective in the role is unrealistic, IMO.

Nope. And he may never be. 2C might be his actual ceiling.

Luckily, still have Dylan Strome though..................... yea j/k.

As far as centers, a lot of teams are going to regret passing up on Pinelli, Broz and Stankoven in the draft. Same for Zellweger if they really wanted a D. Any, or even Chibrikov, would have been a better pick than Allan in my estimation.

The teenager that shutdown McDavid and Draisaitl?

I don't think it's unfathomable. Obviously he didn't look 100% coming out of surgery...but that's cause he wasn't.

Kirby has had lots of time to rest and recover now. Have to imagine we see him at his best next season.

That's not to say there won't be the usual young player hiccups, and maybe there's an adjustment period to start the season as he gets back into the swing of things, but I think he's capable. I believe in Kirby.
They scored 15 points combined in 4 games. Even if you just count 5v5 they scored 8 points in 4 games and both ran a 60+ CF%. That in no way in hell is shutting them down.
I mean to be fair Dach didn't play very much against McDavid that series although he played a bit against Draisaitl. Dach was only on ice for 1 goal against at even strength that series, and it was scored a second after a PK ended so not even an even strength goal really.

Dach CF% for series was also one of few with >50% for hawks.

Thats fine, I'm not saying he played bad, but Draisatl was at 61% and McDavid was at 64%. That absolutely is not shutting someone down.

The Oilers is a silly comparison because they've proven to be an out against decent playoff teams time and time again so far. The Vegas series should be the barometer and Dach was actually pretty good, or at the least he didn't stick out in a bad way (IIRC) which is pretty impressive for that age against a tough team. I thought that series exposed Toews more than anything, he played hard but he just wasn't dominant, the 2 games he got a point in he ended a -1 in both, take away our one win and he ended the series -5 overall.

To be fair, it's subsequently come out that Toews was struggling with his health situation in that series. I don't know if it's fair to say a player was "exposed" when he was playing in that circumstance.

Toews wasn't himself long before that series. I don't what the details of his health issue is but he hasn't been in his prime for quite a few years now.

I don’t think there is any need to overthink it. He has a lot of mileage, and hard mileage at that. Not everyone is a Duncan Keith who can somehow seemingly last forever.

True, but if we're talking that last playoff series we played? Keith was turrible.

Toews never was a 1C of the 1C-A level....morevofba 1C-B level ...still he was always the top linecC therefore our 1C...

Now Dach this season or next season aftercthiscstill will not be called ourc 1C as long as $19.5 Toewsxisctgere...Unless Toeesxretireescbeforechisc2ccobtractual seadonsvup or goes back online,Dach cannot be our 1C the next 2 seasons....but After that Toewsxactualky retirescorcacceotsxa much lesser pay scale to pkaycthe "vet" 3C roke ...T hen Dach coukd becomevourc1 C if his numbers merit it.

Always wondered why they dont just ban 50. Its gotta be the longest running troll account In 3xis7ence

What a horrible take.

Sitting on 4 points after 11 games
For comparison's sake, Cozens also has 4 points and Zegras has 5. Kakko has 0 pts in 6 games. Turcotte is in the AHL.

Byram has 8 pts in 9 games, Hawks may have messed up there, but also a much better team.

2019 could be one of those drafts that was mediocre after 1st overall.

No. He will be lucky to top out at a 2C the way he is 'progressing'. Is it all on him? No....a portion is on the lack of development form this failure of a coaching staff.

11 GP
1 G
3 A
4 pts

Dach continues his disappointing play

No more excuses and again questions continue if his upside is even close to what people want to believe it is

It’s gonna get real rough watching Byram do well on a good team that’s well coached meanwhile Dach gets JC and Chicago malfunction

yep. The entire team sucks but I just haven’t been impressed with him. A pick that high needs to be showing more.

the team is poorly coached and developed but he, Kubalik and Toews have been the biggest disappointments so far. Toews because of the massive contract and total lack of production, Kubalik because of the lack of scoring and Dach because of his cornerstone status going forward
