Is Keefe the right coach for this team at this time.

so why did Dubas keep Anderson but turn over so much of the roster if the problem was ''shockingly poor goaltending'' ?

Theres a reason why Andersen made the all star team despite ending up a below average starter on the year.

He had his usual slow start his first 10 games for the month of October (.901 save%) and then went on a tear in November posting a .938% mark and everyone figured he was just the same old Freddy.

The problem is that he dropped back to .901% the entire rest of the season. He did have some injury issues that may have contributed to this but he certainly wasnt a quality starter for the majority of the year. If they are insistent in keeping him in the mix, I'm guessing injuries played a bigger part than we think.

Just compare him to Dell (who we just picked up to be our third stringer) since December 1st, 2019:

Dell:
Games played: 25
Shots against/60: 32.42
High Danger Shots against/60: 10.13
Save%: .911

Andersen:
Games played: 31
Shots against/60: 31.6
High Danger Shots against/60: 8.26
Save%: .901

Because Andersen has a bigger track record of better goaltending, so it's more likely a bad season than a new normal. He did get Campbell to improve the backup, and improved goaltending depth beyond that.
i keep hearing he's the reason we keep getting knocked in the first rd every year so why did Dubas not deal him instead the players he did ?

That's not really an accurate representation of what people are saying. What goalie do you think he should have gone for?
yes it is a very accurate statement that many are saying endlessly on this forum , basically every thread is a different excuse

on some it's Dubas built a great team but Freddy lets us down in the playoffs every year but when asked why Dubas didn't replace him the tune changes for some reason

People say all kinds of things on forums. It doesn't make it accurate.

In this case, Andersen is NOT the reason we've been knocked out. In elimination games, we've scored less than two goals a game with him. I think it's 1.5 goals for... we can't expect to win often, if we need to goalie to only let in one goal, every game. There were times he should be better, but he isn't THE reason...

Columbus goaltending was obviously the difference-maker in the series but I thought Andersen was fine overall in the series this year.

Still, its hard to watch deciding games when one keeper is doing this:

and Andersen is doing this:

Both plays had defensive breakdowns yet one keeper steals the goal away and the other doesnt (on an easier shot against).

Thats the reason Andersen is getting the gears as its not for the first time.

Hopefully a nice amount of time off and fighting for a new long term deal will light a fire under him this year if we are choosing to run with him again in the playoffs.

It's not accurate. You've twisted what is often cited, which is but one of the impacting factors. You didn't answer my question, so I'll ask again. What goalie do you think Dubas should have replaced him with?

We know Anderson can be rock solid. We also know he lets in too many softies at critical times. Would I have liked to seen him traded - yes. But I don't know who was out there that would be considered an upgrade. So we hope we see the solid Freddy or maybe look at a deadline move.

For sure it's frustrating watching other teams goalies steal games. But, we've got some elite offensive talent... and if you are consistently shut down at key times, maybe take some of the blame to yourself, and not credit opposing goalies. There is enough talent there, to score in those tight games, just pay the price to do it. Learn to win at those times, and not make excuses that a goalie stole it.

i'm the one twisting posts ? basically it's a fair number of posters blaming Andy yet turning around making excuses for why Dubas didn't replace him

and i'm not the person who wants Andy replaced so you should ask the people blaming him for costing us multiple series who they wanted us to acquire

since i don't have your computer skills maybe you can post a clip of our 11m dollar Captain who couldn't score into an empty net

there's lots of blame to go around for losing to a mediocre Cloumbus team without trying to single out just the goalie

i agree with you and i'll put it bluntly , if we can't knock out the mediore Jackets when our goalie is giving up less than 2 goals a game then the last person people should be looking at is the goalie

Reposting some older stuff I wrote here but some need some reminding of the season under Keefe:

Taking into consideration both traditional and advanced stats and looking at the numbers under Keefe (which is what we all should do considering we are moving forward with him).

.

This post needs to be stickied.

So many bad narratives around this team coming out of last season. Fact of the matter: Keene came into a dysfunctional locker room as the new coach of a struggling team and led the team to a 100+ point pace (pro-rated) - all the while getting atrocious goaltending and riding a brutal PDO. Inconsistency and leadership are still definitely question marks with this team, but the majority of problems we saw after the coaching change were a product of shocking levels of poor goaltending for over half the season.

This is another really underrated post.

People really don't realize the heater the leafs had to go on to even make the playoffs, and they were right there thanks to Keefe.

Yes Tavares have should have buried that, but that's pure unluckiness.

But that doesn't take away from the stinkers that your own goalie lets in, especially when it's happening time after time again.

You can recognize that he had a weak season, and discuss areas of concern, without wanting to throw him out without a reasonable alternative. He's still shown to be a quality goalie over a bigger sample. If you don't want Andersen replaced, I'm not sure what the issue is. You should be happy with Dubas for keeping him.

JT was just "pure unlucky" , lol , that's why it's great to be Johnny Teflon , nothing is ever his fault

so in your opinion Dubas failed in not replacing the goalie and should be held accountable if the team fails again this season ? and what i mean by being held accountable is he should be fired if we don't make the playoffs or go deep in them this season

He absolutely should wear it if Andersen is horrible.

It also depends on the context for the latter part of your question. Where they injury riddled and missed the playoffs like that? That matters too.

A lot of factors, I think Dubas is safe until the season after this one.

was it Andy's fault the team quit on Babs ?
was it also Andy's fault the team reverted to their earlier season form after a blistering hot 20 games after Keefe took over ?

seems like a lot of excuses to shift the blame from the team onto one player and i endlessly heard on this forum there was a large number of "reasonable alternatives" before free agency stated and now the spin is there wasn't to defend the Dube for not switching goalies

yea that's it . we'll just keep making excuses to keep Dubas regardless of how the team performs

the problem is while MNM have years left , JT/Muzzin/Brodie probably don't so the clock is ticking on how many failed seasons we're going to allow Dubas to continue to drive the bus

Neither of those things happened.

Lehner was the main one discussed and he didn't make it to UFA.

the team didn't quit on Babs , that would be news to a large number of Leafs fans , lol

the team was i believe 1 game under .500 with Babs and 1 game over .500 the last 27 games under Keefe so yea both points i stated happened

Markstrom was also discussed as well as other goalies under contract so again my point about many on this board believing that there were a large number of alternatives still stands . The Dube fan club however is in full defense mode now because they're going to use Andy as a scapegoat if the team fails this year so they're already setting up excuses to defend Dubie for not changing goalies .
