Is Keefe really the problem?

Does that mean he has to play them late in the third period?

Or bury Knies on the 4th line?

Knies has never been on the 4th line, Bertuzzi has for his bad play.

I don't think running Matthews, Marner, Nylander, and Tavares for 25 mins a night because you can't trust your 4th line is the solution.

We have seen the same issues with two different coaches - lazy, entitlement, don't start on time, can't play a full 60 minutes, lack of "give a shit", lack of grit (especially come playoffs), etc. It's the players at this point. Good individually; collectively do not work.

Keefe coach's like a minor hockey coach

- overplay your best players
- no real system , just open the gate and hope the top players you keep throwing out can win you the game

when that doesn't work , look pissed and confused on the bench
The measure of a good coach is not the regular season performance of the stars like the 4 but how much they get out of the support players. The 4 would do what they do in the regular season even if I was behind the bench and my only coaching instruction was "go save my a** boys." Looks like Keefe and I would have the same coaching strategy.

Leaderless roster...yet we have 3 players making 11 million and another wanting something close lol.

Treliving did exactly what Dubas tried for year's...move the deck chairs around, keep the coach, and bring in 4th liner to try and be the captain behind the scenes. It doesn't work. Nobody pays attention to washed up 4th liners or 4th line enforcers.

Oreilly was exactly what this team needed, a great leader, who said the right things and played the right way.

Leafs Home Board
Leafs have played 5 games at home where Keefe has had home ice advantage and last change and line matching ability and Leafs have given up 4 or more goals in every game.

Pathetic coaching !!!!!

Nothing to do with the trash D that was assembled or some of the bad goaltending we got.

Just line changes, I got it.

Is Keefe the problem? No. Based on our moves, we all knew that defense was going to be suspect. And by nobody's surprise, it's suspect.

The unfortunate surprise here is that Bertuzzi and Domi have not panned out at all. And the fourth line is HORRIBLE defensively.

This is a GM thing.

He is one of the problems but it is deeper than that. A major part is the poor cap distribution that Dubas set up. Dubas tried for 5 years to make it work with very little success. Now comes Tre with a lot of pressure to try and fix it and he has totally blown it.
I put most of the responsibility on Shanny. If they can’t turn this year around and go deep in the playoff Shanny, Tre and Keef should be gone and an “on the fly rebuild should take place but the problem is Will most likely will get signed and Marner/Tavares cannot be traded so we either have to resign them thus continue the nightmare or lick our wounds and let them walk for nothing. Either way we are looking at best a retool and at worst a rebuild.

This sums it up.

It’s been 7 years… We’ve fired toxic Babcock and things haven’t gotten much better.
We beat a depleted Bolts by luck and Panthers raped us.

Keefe isn’t that good. But what we have said since this past off season.

Core 4 needs to be blown up.
Marner can go
Next is JT when paper allows.

Keefe is definitely a problem. Going back to 2020 when he came on board there have been a lot of new Leafs on-boarded who have simply not panned out at all. That goes back to coaching and having a blender of a system not integrating guys properly, not motivating them properly. As of the Boston game I would say the chance of him being Leafs coach after the Sweden trip is going down and down.

I think we should all know by now that he’s not the one who rules the roost on this team. This team belongs to the big guns and Keefe answers to Matthews and Marner’s feelings. Keefe sure as shit isn’t the answer and is a problem, but he’s not the main problem.

Keefe was a horrible choice for a coach.

All these years later and he still hasn't won anything with the outstanding roster he was gifted. He clearly doesn't have what it takes. We all knew that after he got schooled by Bergevin's sock puppet three years ago.

I still can't believe it was Ducharme who got fired first.

Firing Keefe now will just make them all look even worse. They should have done that in the offseason. They had every reason to let him go.

Instead they gave him an extension.

Everything this team does is face palmingly stupid. They continue to ignore the most obvious area to make a change. The whole "just wait and see, he'll eventually get it right" is no longer an excuse.

It never should have been in the first place.

We're actually pretty close to being 0-11. A few heroics from the core (mainly Willy and Auston) and Woll are the only reasons we (more of us?) aren't self harming.

Keefe has only been the coach for 4 years. Babcock got 3 years.

I always say this, Babcock had a system and structure. It may have limited the stars and his stretch pass thing was stupid. But the team had a clear identity in how they were going to play. I find Keefe has struggled to find an identity and style for this team.

Not to mention he never has them ready to go. I don’t know if they are tuning him out but he can’t seem to make changes or he’s unwilling to make changes and that’s enough to be fired.

Unless I see different, I expect they'll all be re-signed as per Shanahan's directive.
Sadly I think you are right because trading either Tavares or Marner is not going to happen due to No trades and Willy is the only guy they can trade but I doubt they will do that

Shanahan thought he was the smartest guy in the room. Fact is he wasn't. He passed on the smartest guy in the room. Result: team is floundering and capped after an historic season. Shanahan needs to go [period]
I don't know if Lou is still the smartest guy in the room but he's head and shoulders smarter that the two than followed him , especially the wimp who had a meltdown at the season ending presser and is presently driving the Pens into the toilet .
