Is Jimmy Vesey Completely Useless?

He actually had his best play of the season last night on a really strong backcheck to take away a good scoring chance.

He's so useless it boggles the mind. All he does is skate the puck into the corner and fall down. He doesn't create anything offensively. He's not garbage defensively, credit where it's due, I was expecting him to suck at that too. But he is no bueno and doesn't contribute at all in the top9.

Happy he hasn't been hemmed into his own zone when on the ice. Happy for him to go back to the 4th line when Thornton and Robertson are back on the squad.

Yes. Weak on his skates, he falls down more than Clarkson did. I mean, if the Sabres didn’t see enough him developing as a player, how did we?

He falls down constantly, is not an NHL skater by any means.

Boyd, Mikheyev, Petan and Anderson are all better so far. Vesey doesn't have a place on this team.

I'm actually surprised at how diligent he is defensively.

But that's about it. He's fairly useless offensively, and not fast enough to make much of a difference out there.

The Thornton and Robertson injuries saved him from being demoted to the 4th line or lower, and his current 4th line spot is pretty tentative and if we were fully healthy he likely wouldn't be in the lineup.

Still, on the 4th line he's probably fine.

Jimmy Vesey sounds like a guy that works in the Deli department at Metro. Waive him immediately and give him a Metro application.

I Get that just fine. You make your trades while you are on top.

No, you don’t get it. You don’t need to trade your cheap depth when you are on top. Vesey being able to eat safe minutes while the top 6 gets rested and we have 3 middle 6 injuries. He’s part of the reason we just had a winning streak through these injuries.

He’s on the 4th line now with Thornton back. You still want to trade a serviceable 4th liner before our season goes down the shitter?

The falling down frustrates me as well. Total waste of size if a slight breeze can knock you over. Basically a nepotism hire as far as I'm concerned.

And if it's not a wake up call for him I don't know what is

He's the 5th guy on the PK rotation. That serves a purpose. They don't have an overwhelming supply of PKing forwards on the roster. He will throw the odd hit and will fight on rare occasion or back someone up in a scrum. He brings some secondary scoring, but he hasn't brought as much as we have hoped so far. We need more from him offensively, like we do with Kerfoot and Mikheyev, especially with Simmonds, Thornton and Robertson out with injury. Still fairly early.

Spezza, Boyd, Petan etc. are all looking better than expected.

The Leafs just have a lot of 4th line players to choose from this year, which makes him expendable.
It doesn't help that he has been playing hire in the lineup than he should be, so he stands out.

Wow, how is he still playing over Boyd and Petan?
Petan isn’t an NHL caliber player. He’s got some creativity as a playmaker but he’s below average to poor at almost everything else. Doesn’t think the game well enough or fast enough to compensate for all his shortcomings. He’s just a warm body that will clear waivers every time.

I’ve liked Boyd a lot but he had a rough night last time out. If they have to take someone out, not surprised it’s him.

Vesey has played really solid defensively. I think he’s been solid.i would like to see him hitting Ottawa tonight on the wall and grinding harder even if it means shorter shift. Just go harder offensively at the net possibly would work for him.
I have no problem with Vesey.

He's pretty strong defensively and can be decent along the boards and on his skates. His offense leaves much to be desired and his overall skating. As a 4th liner I don't mind him, maybe even the 3rd if he can click it on the o zone. He has more to give but can he do it in time before he loses his spot and do it consistently? Not sure tbh,

We are drifting furthur apart because I never said trade Vessy. In fact I just read what you said and have no idea what you are talking about. Move on...

at this point I'd describe him as a replacement level player. It seems he's definitely getting a bit of extra icetime since he was a free agency signing.

Ideally Robertson helps bump him down/out
