No, he's a good PKer and has the necessary skills to be a useful player for a team. Good in front of the net, but he's a guy who needs a defined role. When playing with Nylander, Vesey knew just go to net, wait, shoot. PK he knows what he's doing and does it well. Problem is right now he's relied on like our 7th or 8th best forward, that's not ideal. In an ideal world you have him as the 3rd wheel in a bottom 6 two way line, with energy forwards. Healthy we look something like:

Hyman-Matthews-Marner
Thornton-Tavares-Nylander
Robertson-Kerfoot-Simmonds
Vesey-Spezza-Mikheyev

And that's BEFORE acquiring a top 6 winger like rumoured. I believe in a structure like that, you would see Jimmy Vesey do well, he was playing good the first handful of games and looked decent tonight at times. He just seems so lost as to what his role is right now i.e. am I supposed to be a grinder, am I the lines sniper, do I give puck to Kerfoot, etc. Vesey + Mikheyev on a line is a bad combo because they can be similar in that way.

We have no 3rd line. If Keefe doesn't wake up the honeymoon will end with a thump. We are looking at another fold until Simmonds gets back.
We have Thornton like 48 hours away, and Robertson will be getting games with the Marlies this week. Having 3 of Mikheyev/Robertson/Kerfoot/Thornton/Hyman as your 3rd line is not no L3 at all, really those are all good top 9 players

in LeaFland oh yes bigtime

in the rest of the world, where he's not expected to pot 40 and 40, run over Weber like a boss, outskate Auston, the answer is no,

is he better then what he's shown thus far, yes I think so. In reality he's a middle 6 kind of guy leaning more towards the 7/8/9, but capable of extra minutes when he's playing to his potential, but he is not "useless!"

Replacement player. They can't all be winners. Doesn't make a lot of great plays, doesn't make a lot of awful plays, basically a time sink until you can get the top 6 back out. You're gonna have those players.

I have a lot more consternation for Kerfoot. If you took all of Nazem Kadri's worst games in the NHL and congealed them into a player, it would be Alex Kerfoot.

Not useless, he is just a bottom six winger, who can play on the PK. It would be great if he showed a bit more offensively.

Can't help but think favor for his dad. He is ok, makes some solid plays from time to time but sometimes looks lost and tripping over himself. That third line is horrible imho. Trade effin Kerfoot already.

excellent analogy

I'm one of those guys who thought they should have never moved Naz at least not for an Alex Kerfoot Barrie notwithstanding, no matter the hot-headedness the guy brought it all every night, and Kerfoot mostly doesn't, he's more an effective winger then he is a centre

I know Kadri was his own worst enemy sometimes but he added an ingredient the Leafs really need and currently don't have.

He's not completely useless. He does a good enough job defensively and on the Pk. Don't think he should be anywhere higher than the fourth line though.

Total waste of spot imo.
Any nhl caliber player can, or should, do the things people giving him praises for on these boards.
I'd rather have a hitter/grinder so the line won't be total butter imo.

But again, I am still biased cause of his snub of our team few years back o_O

I’m pretty neutral towards him, but I really appreciate that he doesn’t do dumb stuff. He’s also pretty versatile.

I like having him as an option personally, even if he doesn’t stand out when you’re watching a game.

I think he’s got a bit more grit than people give him credit for too.

He doesn't do dumb stuff no, but he really doesn't do anything

He actually had his best play of the season last night on a really strong backcheck to take away a good scoring chance.

He's so useless it boggles the mind. All he does is skate the puck into the corner and fall down. He doesn't create anything offensively. He's not garbage defensively, credit where it's due, I was expecting him to suck at that too. But he is no bueno and doesn't contribute at all in the top9.

I'm surprised it took 15 games for Leafs fans to find a new scapegoat . I suppose I can take some positive out of this seeing as this new one is a 3rd-4th line player making less than a million. And no, just because he isn't a special player playing near bottom line minutes, doesn't mean he's "completely useless"

I really liked Naz. I still like Naz. Before Rielly, Nylander, Marner, Matthews became stars, Kadri was our one home grown gem in a bottomless mineshaft of wasted, frittered away, and just plain terrible draft picks. Kadri getting through all the bullshit that was Ron Wilson, the constant trade rumors, and just dizzyingly stupid Toronto media takes and coming out the other side as a two way super pest C was the best thing about the worst chapter of this franchise in the modern era. That ear to ear grin when Cherry kissed him is locked into my memory. Great player, great story.

But here's where the rubber meets the road for me with Naz. The entire point of the post-Tavares Leafs was to run a three headed monster of Tavares - Matthews - Kadri down the middle. That's the one thing those teams had that was truly elite. And two years in a row, Kadri plays Delilah. Those series were a whole hell of a lot closer than how the "hurr durr 1st round losers" crowd chooses to remember them now, and two years in a row he gets himself suspended for multiple games, for nothing but sheer selfish stupidity. Those series went 7 games both times. Who knows what would have been had we played with our one strength that was the conceptual core of the entire goddamn team. He made every other player on that team's life harder than it needed to be. So nah, after that, I was done, 100%. After game 7 I said I never wanted to see Kadri in a Leafs jersey again and I stand by that.
