GDT: GDT #60 New York Islanders @ New York Rangers | March 3rd | 7 PM | F/L 4-0

Yet another non-competitive performance by Sorokin against the Rangers. 2 of the 3 goals absolutely have to be stopped. No screen, no deflection, straight on shots going over his shoulder or arm with slow reflexes.
Meanwhile Shesterkin is unbeatable.
The only goal he was beat clean was Miller’s. The first was a ridiculous set of deflections and the 2nd was deflected by Boqvist.

Who do you guys view as untouchable?
There's not many I can see.
The D guys have been awful this season, Dobson the most disappointing. Pulock just isn't factor.
Forwards - Horvat not really a factor. Tspy dried up. Zeeker is old. Lee is old. JGP is declining. Nelson and Palms surely going.
Keep Holmy!
Nobody on this team is untouchable.

Nobody on this team is untouchable.

I'm in the camp of Sorokin is untouchable barring a ridiculous return. In the realm of re-build, re-structure, re-tool, re-re-re-re-re-re.....if there is a surprise season out of nowhere with a new group of players, at least you can bank on your goaltender.

Also, the second you ship off or lose a franchise goaltender, then you are desperately searching for one. I'm assuming that's why John Gibson has remained with the Ducks for so long.

It's kind of like how above average but not elite QB's in the NFL get locked up to huge deals, the devil you know is worse than the searching for a QB wasteland...

And with that being said, I would start Skarek a lot down the stretch - for tank purposes, scouting his ability for the future and NHL experience.

Hes made multiple ridiculous saves this game. First 2 goals were lucky. Off a guys head and off of a stick. Goal against Miller was the only one where he got beat.

We suck on the PP. Can’t get shots off when open. Can’t complete passes. None of those are Sorokins fault
The second goal was not lucky, that was a cannon, I don’t care if it deflected off a stick, that’s a big time goal

Trading Sorokin would be waaay down on my things-to-do list this week. But I can't overlook the fact that he is 29 years old and likely to be in the same situation that Brock Nelson is, a player who is likely to be aging out at the time this franchise is ready to compete again. The only thing that makes Sorokin's situation more palatable is the fact that he has 7 years remaining on his contract so we're not going to be wrestling over the decision of how to extend a star player in the twilight of his career. However I'd like to hear what that "ridiculous return" might be. Like trading Mat Barzal, any huge return that can fix multiple problems I'm all ears for.

Deflected off a stick and Sorokin's mask.

Sheesh, that was another state-of-the-nation loss.

Felt like dozens of games I've seen where one team beats a goalie it has problems against, gets the goal called back, and then allows a goal against minutes later only to be shutdown all night.

Speaking of goalies, I find myself wondering where this franchise sees Gidlöf and Gamzin in all of this?

Both are putting in strong seasons of pro play (particularly Gidlöf is way ahead of the curve) and Gamzin's contract ends this offseason, so gotta think he's in the program next season.

Would have to think you ride Sorokin until someone right up displaces him.

At least with that contract...
