I think JD would be a good fit here but I’ve been wrong about stuff before and will be again.

I’d also bet my left nut that Gorton isn’t going anywhere no matter who the hire is. He just started and if his vision is seen through (which takes years... not days or months as some would have you believe) there’s a payoff there.

JD is the guy. It's a long time coming, but he turned around two organizations that were in the bottom tier of the league, to consistent playoff organizations.

My quick research found that in 13 years as an NHL executive, John Davidson's teams won a total of one playoff series. Those are consistent playoff organizations? The first year or two Davidson was a Ranger announcer, I liked him. He then became so full of himself that he morphed into a bloviating fool that blathered on about everything except the game in front of him, eventually ruining Sam Rosen. He's pushing 70 and I don't ever need to hear that voice again.

I’d be shocked if Jeff Gorton is still the GM 2 years from now with this news.

I love Sather but he and his guys haven’t drafted a star forward or dman in their entire time here. Not one. That’s unacceptable. That’s why we don’t have a Cup. Gorton has to have a great draft here. I think he had a great one last year and I *****ed the whole weekend he proved me wrong so far. Needs a monster draft though.

My fellow Kovalev, I love your posts but definitely disagree with this one! Objectively, I think Gorton is in very firm standing. 2 years is a long ways away, but I think he's in strong B+ territory right now.

i doubt yzerman comes here but thats the first name that would be a smart move over a nostalgia move

Yzerman will use the Rangers to drive this price up to Detroit. Messier will be a figurehead if he’s hired, Gorton will be the de facto President if that happens imo.

By consistent playoff teams- I'm referring to turning bottom barrel teams that made the playoffs after a turnaround.
