Who are respected longtime NHL execs who should be considered? I have no interest in hiring JD, nostalgia hires should be last thing Rangers should be doing.
I mean jd has been the president of organizations for over a decade. He atleast has some experience

JD is far from a nostalgia hire, he’s a qualified professional who happens to be a former Rangers broadcaster. He’s legit, and was integral in helping turn around the Blue Jackets organization.

I get that, but I much rather go in a different route. I’m sure there more than another execs out there other than JD.

Yes he does and I would worry about Messier coming in with an agenda that's counter to every thing we've done the last couple years. Chris has been here and every step of the way of the retool/rebuild. There's no point ****ing around with it now.

I love how often people dump on one of the most well respected and amazing captains/players this team has ever had and promote Chris Drury who was arguably one of the most disliked/overrated/underperforming players this organization has had. Drury is the same guy who almost never showed any emotion as a captain and never seemed all that worried when the team lost games.

I’m not saying Mess would be a good fit for the role( I have no idea who would be) but I find this love for Drury to be strange.

It’s almost as if being a good player means nothing when it comes to front office jobs

This does not bode well for Jeff Gorton. Sure he’d be safe at first but ultimately a new President is going to pick his guy when it comes down to it.

I’d love to see JD in that role but for all the pats on the back he gets Columbus has done nothing close to being a winner. They’ll be gone again in the first round this year. And couldn’t keep their best two players.

We've gone from blaming coaches to GM's to presidents for a team's futility, not that the Jackets have been bad. Its easy to forget how much of a gong show CBJ was prior to JD coming on board.

Jeff's position is in no more or less danger than it would have been if Glen stayed unless they hire someone whose vision for the team is MUST COMPETE NAO SIGN ALL OF THE FREE AGENTS!
We're in a rebuild and that should be understood. This team sucks and will continue to suck for a few more seasons, if the right steps aren't being taken collectively, he'd be boned either way.

If they are being taken, wanting to get "your guy" in there just for the sake of it sounds like a pretty easy way to join your guy in another city.

And for whoever else comes in: Sather is still going to be advising Dolan, Gorton was essentially groomed by Sather for this job, and Dolan’s worked with Gorton and Sather on the big decisions the past few years. Whoever the new hire might be is going to have to be able to work with both Gorton and Dolan (at least for a few years) for Dolan to hire them

Couldn't echo this strongly enough. How could you not want a great hockey mind with deep ties to the club already? The only reason I wouldn't want him is if it ended up being a disaster, because quite honestly, I love the guy and would feel way worse for him than I do Mr. Cigar.

I'm not one of them

Don't care for Drury at all. As a player or as a Front Office guy.

I'd stay away fro. Messier as well.

Hate to insult the man, but I don't think Graves is smart enough for role.

Something about him that makes me feel he's a little MaGoo

Showing no emotion and not reacting to losses is a great trait for a GM.

As for Messier, he could be a pep talker for the youth. That’s about all I’d let him do.

I’d be shocked if Jeff Gorton is still the GM 2 years from now with this news.

I love Sather but he and his guys haven’t drafted a star forward or dman in their entire time here. Not one. That’s unacceptable. That’s why we don’t have a Cup. Gorton has to have a great draft here. I think he had a great one last year and I bitched the whole weekend he proved me wrong so far. Needs a monster draft though.

Gorton is an above-average GM in my opinion, so I would be weary of replacing him. Yes, there are better GMs out there but the Rangers could also do a lot worse.

As far as the presidency goes, Davidson is an obvious choice. Would he come home? That would be fun. I'd also take a flyer on Messier because it could be a total gongshow and what is sports if not entertaining?

I’m all for chaos, just not with the team I like

JD is the guy. It's a long time coming, but he turned around two organizations that were in the bottom tier of the league, to consistent playoff organizations.

Keep in mind, those two markets are not UFA draws, nor destination cities. Those teams were built from the ground up. CLB has a completely different culture, their media game has taken a huge step, as has fan engagement.

That's for a team that never had anything close to that.

I hope they make the playoffs, because they are a gutsy bunch.

Also... the draft record under JD's administrations should have some of you excited. The guy knows good scouts. He was raving about Kekalainen since his days as a broadcaster.

I seriously, seriously doubt that they'd embark on a rebuild only for Sather to walk away and have his replacement fire Gorton. They'll either promote him to President and GM or they'll bring someone in who is already on board with what they're doing.

I doubt they'd bump Schoenfeld up or bring in someone from the outside with little to no experience. JD makes the most sense on paper if he'd leave Columbus.

The first few years were iffy with some bigger misses unfortunately in Milano and Murray, but his last 4 drafts have been fantastic considering what picks they had and where they were selecting.
