That's just a cop-out answer.
giving the captaincy to players who had no idea what it takes to win in the nhl because of last names and marketing was the cop out.
That's just a cop-out answer.
Again, ancient history lesson.
Are you saying that once he was able to play close to a full season? Ok?
Great, again, history lesson.
It's not particularly disingenuous when most of his competitors in that comparative ranking also had their rookie seasons and also missed games due to the pandemic in the same span.
If your time machine is in working order, I'm sure we have a solution to our apparent disagreement on his current level of play.
The fact that it's "only been 3 seasons" omits the fact that they are the most relevant seasons to consider given that they are the 3 most recent seasons. Now who is being disingenuous?
A 25 year old, 6'4, rugged winger that scores 35 goals and around a point per game. Yeah, who would want a player like that.
I think Marner is better but saying Brady is just average and nothing stands out is a bit extreme and just as bad/biased as the people taking him over marnerObviously he is overrated based on the Marner poll results
He’s a career average 65pts per 82 games, and has never made the playoffs in his career.
I mean, he’s just average. There is nothing that stands out about this guy
It is your opinions he is overrated. He has also played on a pretty bad team his entire career. I would take him over Marner. I have no bias, I don't like Ottawa or the Leafs, actually I am not even a fan of the Tkachuk's in general. He is a unique and rare player that can add a lot of elements to a line and to a team. He adds a dimension that is difficult to find in today's NHL. I guess it really depends what you want or need in a player, they play a completely different style.Obviously he is overrated based on the Marner poll results

He is pretty average. He has had 1 decent season and has had a good start this year. The rest of his career has been very pedestrian
We can agree to disagree. Comparing the +/- of one player that has played on a team that has been much better offensively and defensively then the other for a number of years is silly. Can’t agree with that. You think tkachuk is a ‘rare’ talent?
How many players are there in the league like Marner? 90+ points per 82 games I his career, and plays all situations and is super star level at everything from 5 on 5, to quarterbacking a powerplay to being your top penalty killer?
A player that a coach can even play as a defenseman and is on the ice at the end of the game whether you’re winning or losing?
Plus/minus isn’t the greatest stat (by far), but we are talking a career +110 and a career -58. Sometimes plus/minus does tell a story, and this one is a pretty obvious one.
You think tkachuk is rare, and that’s why you’d take him but that is hand waving away how much Marner is MUCH MORE RARE of a player.
You can just say it, you value physical play over everything else that Marner brings to the table that tkachuk isn’t even in the same area code with.
Which is every single other aspect of the game of hockey

You understand that Brady Tkachuk was 24 y/o last season?
22 y/o : 0.85 PPG (30 goals)
23 y/o : 1.01 PPG (35 goals)
24 y/o : 0.91 PPG (37 goals)
Yes his 19, 20 and 21 y/o seasons were more "modest". Marner broke out at 21 but his 19 and 20 y/o seasons were more modest too
Stop being ridiculous, you might fool a couple of dummies with this kind of crap but you look more ridiculous than anything.

This brings up another point. Senators players are compared head to head against Toronto players in the poll section a lot
Not once has a Toronto player won any of those polls.
I mean, hfboards would rather have Stutzle than Matthews and tkachuk than marner
I’m sure they’d also rather Suzuki to Tavares and Hudson to knies
How does Toronto have a better team, in your opinion, if every player comparison poll on hfboards picks the sens player?
I don't base my opinion on what others say and I am not a troll on this message board like a number of people are, I can hate a team and still be objective about their players. The Leafs have been a far stronger team then Ottawa for a number of years, so that is not even worth discussing. That impacts things like point production and plus/minus. I don't like the Leafs, the Senators, nor am I a big fan of the Tkachuk brothers in general so I am completely unbiased. If I had a choice right now to have Marner or Tkachuk on my team, I would pick Brady Tkachuk and that is no slight to Mitch Marner, he is an excellent player, I just like the elements Tkachuk brings to a team. I just have a preference for physical, 35 goal, near point per game 6'4, 225 pound players over a smaller player that scores 90 points. This brings up another point. Ya reading is hard, and hyperbole is posters trait. If you guys could read instead of constantly crying and complaining you would notice that the Leafs win plenty of polls.

Josh Norris vs William Nylander
After each of their 1st 3 seasons in the league(2 & a bit each really)...... Josh Norris: 52G/90P - signs 7.95M deal for 8 years William Nylander: 48G/135P - signs 6.9M deal for 6 years(& he has 89G/208P in the 4 years since then...) I take Nylander. Much better offensive performance and...forums.hfboards.com
Extended Matthews vs Stutzle going forward?

You’re making my point for me. 19 and 20 ‘modest’ for tkachuk is 40-ish points
But for Marner it’s 60-ish?
If 60 is modest 40 is shit, wouldn’t you agree?

Good post, always posting incorrect things as facts lol, then gets called out for it, and shown what it is actual fact.I'm not making any point for you, it's just you doing some self-conviction lol. Your idea is already made so of course any argument is going to be twisted into your narrative.
But I'm here to rectify the facts, as usual.
1) First, it is a bit stupid and newbish to look at 19-20 y/o seasons to evaluate a player, everyone and their dog know that players are far from finished products at that age.
2) Second, everyone and their dog also know that power forwards take more time to come into their own than soft skilled PP playmakers
3) Marner paced for 65 then 69 pts in his first 2 seasons. Tkachuk paced for 52 and 51 pts, so not really the numbers you are throwing out there.
4) Tkachuk was the Sens leading scorer in his 2nd season, Ottawa was starting a REBUILD and had SOLD all of their established talent (Karlsson, Hoffman, Brassard then Duchene, Stone, etc). Marner played on a playoffs team starting from his rookie season. A lot of his assists are on goals from one of the best goals scorer ever, which helps.
But who would have guess you'd be twisting facts like that considering the kind of poster you are? lol everyone and their dog who has a little bif of intelligence. When you studied psychology, people like you become extremely predictable and easy to read.
Like Nyquil demonstrated, this is factually wrong
This never ever happened, except when contracts are included but you have shown the incapacity to understand this very simple parameter, like if it was rocket science or something
This is an interesting question. I often wonder how he would compare to someone like Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I suppose will never know what people think about the comparison, but it's an interesting thought point.
