Again, ancient history lesson.

Are you saying that once he was able to play close to a full season? Ok?

Great, again, history lesson.

I'm quite confused... I was talking about "the last 3 years" in post #37 but you came back with "2017-2024" in post #38 and now you're telling me this "history lesson" thing

Not sure which direction I'm supposed to go here lol

It's not particularly disingenuous when most of his competitors in that comparative ranking also had their rookie seasons and also missed games due to the pandemic in the same span.

Which "comparative ranking"? If you include the rookie season where a player played in the AHL and 2 seasons there was a pandemic, it's going to largely skew the results.

For example, for Erik Karlsson, if you look at these 3 particular seasons, he has averaged 29 pts per 56 games despite his 11.5 AAV, which doesn't reflect that he is one the best offensive D-men of all-time.

If your time machine is in working order, I'm sure we have a solution to our apparent disagreement on his current level of play.

Did we?

The disagreement seemed to be when I said that Chabot was in the 2nd tier among Sens players with guys like Tkachuk, Batherson and Norris (Stutzle and Sanderson in a clear 1st tier) and you replied "is he though?"

The fact that it's "only been 3 seasons" omits the fact that they are the most relevant seasons to consider given that they are the 3 most recent seasons. Now who is being disingenuous?

Sorry but I'm not following, this conversation has lost the "logic plot". As I said, I was talking about the last 3 seasons and you went back to 2017-2024 as a counter fact

This is an interesting question. I often wonder how he would compare to someone like Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I suppose will never know what people think about the comparison, but it's an interesting thought point.

Obviously he is overrated based on the Marner poll results

A 25 year old, 6'4, rugged winger that scores 35 goals and around a point per game. Yeah, who would want a player like that.

He’s a career average 65pts per 82 games, and has never made the playoffs in his career.

I mean, he’s just average. There is nothing that stands out about this guy

I think Marner is better but saying Brady is just average and nothing stands out is a bit extreme and just as bad/biased as the people taking him over marner

It is your opinions he is overrated. He has also played on a pretty bad team his entire career. I would take him over Marner. I have no bias, I don't like Ottawa or the Leafs, actually I am not even a fan of the Tkachuk's in general. He is a unique and rare player that can add a lot of elements to a line and to a team. He adds a dimension that is difficult to find in today's NHL. I guess it really depends what you want or need in a player, they play a completely different style.

Can’t agree with that. You think tkachuk is a ‘rare’ talent?

How many players are there in the league like Marner? 90+ points per 82 games I his career, and plays all situations and is super star level at everything from 5 on 5, to quarterbacking a powerplay to being your top penalty killer?

A player that a coach can even play as a defenseman and is on the ice at the end of the game whether you’re winning or losing?

Plus/minus isn’t the greatest stat (by far), but we are talking a career +110 and a career -58. Sometimes plus/minus does tell a story, and this one is a pretty obvious one.

You think tkachuk is rare, and that’s why you’d take him but that is hand waving away how much Marner is MUCH MORE RARE of a player.

You can just say it, you value physical play over everything else that Marner brings to the table that tkachuk isn’t even in the same area code with.

Which is every single other aspect of the game of hockey

He is pretty average. He has had 1 decent season and has had a good start this year. The rest of his career has been very pedestrian

You understand that Brady Tkachuk was 24 y/o last season?

22 y/o : 0.85 PPG (30 goals)
23 y/o : 1.01 PPG (35 goals)
24 y/o : 0.91 PPG (37 goals)

Yes his 19, 20 and 21 y/o seasons were more "modest". Marner broke out at 21 but his 19 and 20 y/o seasons were more modest too

Stop being ridiculous, you might fool a couple of dummies with this kind of crap but you look more ridiculous than anything.

We can agree to disagree. Comparing the +/- of one player that has played on a team that has been much better offensively and defensively then the other for a number of years is silly.

You’re making my point for me. 19 and 20 ‘modest’ for tkachuk is 40-ish points

But for Marner it’s 60-ish?

If 60 is modest 40 is shit, wouldn’t you agree?

This brings up another point. Senators players are compared head to head against Toronto players in the poll section a lot

Not once has a Toronto player won any of those polls.

I mean, hfboards would rather have Stutzle than Matthews and tkachuk than marner

I’m sure they’d also rather Suzuki to Tavares and Hudson to knies

How does Toronto have a better team, in your opinion, if every player comparison poll on hfboards picks the sens player?

If you guys could read instead of constantly crying and complaining you would notice that the Leafs win plenty of polls.

These are just Brady Tkachuk vs. Mitch Marner:

I don't base my opinion on what others say and I am not a troll on this message board like a number of people are, I can hate a team and still be objective about their players. The Leafs have been a far stronger team then Ottawa for a number of years, so that is not even worth discussing. That impacts things like point production and plus/minus. I don't like the Leafs, the Senators, nor am I a big fan of the Tkachuk brothers in general so I am completely unbiased. If I had a choice right now to have Marner or Tkachuk on my team, I would pick Brady Tkachuk and that is no slight to Mitch Marner, he is an excellent player, I just like the elements Tkachuk brings to a team. I just have a preference for physical, 35 goal, near point per game 6'4, 225 pound players over a smaller player that scores 90 points.
