I have no idea what’s going to happen but I wish you luck Dave.

My prediction is if the team doesn’t respond to Dave TNSE may go in a different coaching direction next season but they will absolutely trade one or more of the leaders on this team. Wake up or GTFO

The only way Lowry coaches this team next year is if he blows the doors off, wins 2 rounds or something to that effect. This team needs an impact move. Bringing in a guy like Beaudreau is an impact move. Moving a big name player is an impact move.

I agree -

I can see Dave taking a Meat and Potatoes approach - keeping it real simple, hard work, and more energy.
I'd suspect the org will be watching carefully to see who responds to that approach -
If some are not willing to respond to this need, I can see player movement and it will likely include key pcs.

Dave may not be able to hang onto to HC position but he will be the guy that sets the tone for what it expected under any coach in this org.
That will be a good start in sorting all of this out -

Not sure about that - I really think Chevy brought him in last year as the heir apparent for Maurice - I think if we win 60-65% of games he keeps his job

The more I listen to Lowry and learn about him, he may be exactly the catalyst this team needs. High work ethic, fast hockey, and accountability. I don't know what the magic potion is but those seem to be three qualities that help good teams get better.

Exactly

to bad we didn’t get Puljujarvi in the offseason when he was cheap…KFC-PLD-Puljujarvi would have been really good…:naughty:

It is a myth that Pool party was available cheap. Oilers made it very plain that they were not ready to give up on him and would only move him for a big return.

Yeah I have no idea where the idea of him being available for cheap came from but I suspect it came from where a lot of these lopsided trade ideas come from, which is out of thin air.

Wishful thinking. Nothing more.

All I want is a coach that is clearly the boss. I Don’t need to see a hard ass old school coach or players coach. Just set the standard and run the team. Fresh start and EVERYONE needs to earn their minutes.

Like Hellebuyck said I don’t want my coach to be my buddy.
That was Paul’s ultimate undoing in my opinion

I agree.

It seemed like Maurice wanted to be their teammate / friend more than their boss.

There was a game in Minnesota this year where Wheeler took a dumb high sticking penalty while chasing a Wild player behind the net in the Wild's zone.

The Wild scored on the resulting power play and Wheeler was sent right back out on the ice.

When I was living in Calgary back in the early 2000's I remember Sutter benching Iginla when he did stupid shit on the ice.

Like Scotty Bowman said, "You can love your players, just don't be in love with your players."

You don't know what impact Lowry will have until you try him.

What % do we need to win from here on to make the PO? It must be getting pretty close to 65%, +/-.

If he makes the PO, we could still go far. He's only had 1 game. That was a loss but they didn't play badly, for the most part. And it was the day of the coaching change.

He gets just his 2nd game today and then we don't know what will happen to the rest of the season. Pretty hard to predict anything.

If the season is shortened, say to 70 games, that will make getting back into a PO spot that much harder. Chaos reigns! :(

Please Understand
I don’t wanna jump the gun but I’m already liking a few things he’s doing with our special teams. Flipping Scheif and Connor, adding Ves and Harkins to the PK (the latter being something Maurice would not do).

I’m looking forward to seeing his systems develop over the next few weeks.

Maybe it’s because Maurice was stale even with us fans but it’s just a breath of fresh air seeing some changes made already.

I mean, Jamie Compon returned as PauMau resigned, so it's kind of hard to separate between Compon and Lowry's input. For now, we'll attribute it to Lowry, because why else would we have Stanley on the PP2?

You’re right, Kompon coming back is a huge help too. Totally forgot that.

Already liking what I am seeing from him:
  • Aggressive PK with good rotation and support
  • PP that empahsizes movement to open up passing lanes
  • Zone defense that overloads when applicable
  • Aggressive hockey both ways
  • More creativity in terms of switching and d jumping into the play
Clearly the proof will be in the pudding long term but so far so good with him.

Night and day from how they looked under Maurice. How much of that is just new coach mojo remains to be seen, but they look much more structured under Dave.

It will be up to him to get them to keep this assertiveness up. But some structural changes to the PK and defense should really help this group.
