I was just saying, don’t expect much tonight and, aside from lineups, we can’t put any of what happens tonight on Lowry.
He hasn’t had any time to implement anything.
Give him a week or 2 to get his vision out.

Hmmm...HC Dave Lowry envisions Pply1 as Adam Lowry (C), and ehlers, kc, pld and nate schmidt.
Pply 2 is ACopp (C) stats, morrissey, svechnikov and oh yah, scheifMe on rw or rd, as only rhs.

Lowry as the HC.......I'll hold my opinions until I see what he can do. I think its time to move on from PMO, but I just have a very low opinion about the vast majority of HC's out there now days. Too many retreds and old school guys who say the same thing in just a slightly different way which doesn't make them any better then PMO.

Ok Lowry, lets see what you can do.

Yeah, this is what I'm afraid of. I'll give Lowry a chance but am curious to what extent the team will respond to someone associated with the PoMo regime. In NHL history, I wonder how well a struggling team responded to a new head coach: who was promoted from within (even in an interim role) - versus - a new coach coming from outside

I hope he comes in and does what he thinks is right and Maurice didn't rub off on him too much. I think he could be a long term coach. Looks like a guy that will hold players accountable.

What else can you tell us about the style of play he uses

Well...good question.

I would say his teams evolved from the first two years from a bigger grinding old school team to one that had alot of smaller forwards with high skill. In their heyday the Royals loved and used the stretch pass to great success.

They certainly could skate as a team very well when he was the coach. They ran into trouble and had off years when they lacked puck moving defenceman. A key part of the team was Joe Hicketts, who was a the prototypical puck moving d man and now plays for Grand Rapids in the AHL. We often had big tough D but they weren't the best and I found there was sometimes disconnect between them and the forwards. I think that is more on the GM than the coach though.

Maybe my fondest memory was I think what was Dave Lowry's last game. It was the longest in CHL history. It was 5 OTs and lasted over 6 hours. I was there never forget it. Started at 2 pm and ended at 8 30 at night.

The cool part was the team literally played until they keeled over. It was an elimination game and the Royals lost, but the heavily favored Silvertips had so much taken out of them the were swept in 4 in the next round.

That was the true beautiful part of the team, they never made it past round 2, but they played in such a way nothing was left in the tank... literally nothing.

Also, none of those Royals teams produced any NHL players. Great juniors yes, but the overwhelming majority just went on to Canadian colleges or just retired.

Lowery had a great reputation and he got the most, the absolute most out of this teams.

This may be an incomplete explanation, I am not a good hockey tactics guy by any means, and dealing with NHL players is different.

But I just say this, what the Jets need, Lowry has accomplished at the lower levels at least.

Thanks that was a good explanation. Sounds like he can modify his approach depending on the team he has.

But it seems the one hall.ark is work ethic and that is one of the things this team needs to get back to like we showed in 14-15 and 17-18.

He was certainly like that as a player and it carried over to the teams he coached.

I think the acid test for him will be right away.

Break up the dysfunctional relationship between Schiefle and Wheeler.

Although that might have to wait until Wheeler gets back.

They need to be challenged and Maurice was not strong enough to do it.

I think Lowry can. If he doesn't break them up it will be a demonstration of weakness on his part.

My distaste for Wheeler grows more every week that goes by.

Don't fully trust that guy, my gut feeling.

This is a guy who played >1k NHL games and is in season 7 as an NHL assistant. He knows how he thinks the game should be played. Bruce B was on the McCowen podcast yesterday and said he has changed most aspects of how the Nucks play already. No reason Dave shouldn't do the same here. It was rotten as hell giving him less than a day before his 1st head coaching game. Should have happened the nite of the Sabre disaster.

I'm pretty excited about Dave Lowry. I think if there's one thing we could guarantee, it's that a guy like Julian wood have given us a boost, but would have had a couple years shelf life. This way, we have a guy who has didn't patiently apprenticing under multiple types of successful coaches. He has waited a long time to get to try at the NHL level as the guy calling the shots. I don't think he's going to be shy to implement what he wants to do. All the players will have a clean slate and can earn their role from here.

Look at how Adam plays the game oh, he is our new coaches son. It's not too difficult to see what Lowry is going to want to improve in our group in particular... which is a good thing because two-way play from our forwards might be our biggest weakness

I don’t wanna jump the gun but I’m already liking a few things he’s doing with our special teams. Flipping Scheif and Connor, adding Ves and Harkins to the PK (the latter being something Maurice would not do).

I’m looking forward to seeing his systems develop over the next few weeks.

Maybe it’s because Maurice was stale even with us fans but it’s just a breath of fresh air seeing some changes made already.
